  Shunning/Ostracising

  the past few weeks i have been comnunicating with jw's in my area who attend kh meetings physically but not mentally.

  they are "closet apostates" or "double agents".

  some are planning to leave the area altogether to avoid the hassles of being shunned.. according to one of these "closet apostates", he believes that 30% if not more of the members in his congregation would leave if it were not for the shunning.

  I think you make an excellent point!

  For one, consider how many were baptized as minors, and yet this decision that so many chose at such a young age is held against them for the rest of their lives. You can't drink until your 21, you can't get married until your 18 (in most states) without parental consent, you can't drive until your 16, yet we see ones as young as 12 getting baptized all the time. I think I was only 14, or 15 years old myself. Infact, five of my immediate family members were baptized in their early teens. It seems that there should at least be a law for minors, and ones baptized as minors.

  One of my disfellowshipped brothers admits he only got baptized because of peer pressure and because he wasn't included in things.

  And, I totally disagree with the comment about "no one ever forced anyone to become a JW"....my parents forced it upon me, I wasn't given a choice!

  Pack your bags, you are going on a guilt trip!

  "pack your bags, mom's taking us on a guilt trip"-my favorite youngest brother.

  how many of you out there get a regular guilt trip from your parents or anyone for that matter?

  i am beginning to think my mom is reigning queen!.

  How many of you out there get a regular guilt trip from your parents or anyone for that matter? I am beginning to think my mom is reigning Queen!

  Yesterday, her JW friend topped her by trying to tell me that she could tell I wasn't as happy as I was before (obviously before I left the Borg). This women hasn't seen me in years and no clue as to my happiness before or now! This is such a typical reply from JWs..."you couldn't possibly be happy outside of Jehovah's Organization". Well, after trying to convince her that I was, and her denying that I couldn't possibly be. I finally told her that if it made her feel better to believe that, then go ahead, but that I felt I was happier!

  Isn't that what matters, that I think I am happier? Afterall, she thinks she is happy, and I don't see it!

  P.S. It is gorgeous here in Cincinnati today, 80's and Sunny! Two weeks ago, there was snow on the ground!

  Cincinnati Potluck this Friday!

  do you still have all your wt literature from your days in the "truth"??.

  when i moved from ky to ohio nearly 3 years ago, i left all my books, notes, everything, on the bookshelves in my home.

  i never packed them up - nothing.

  Hi Shelly!

  Not only did I leave all my JW publications behind, but I did it when I moved from Ky to Ohio three years ago! Is that ironic or what! What part of Ky are you from if you don't mind me asking? I grew up in the Sun Valley Congregation, but throughout the years I have attended Williamstown Congregation and the Lexington South Congregation.

  I didn't want any Watchtower propaganda in my home, but not because I feared going back, I just thought it was gargage! Now, I wish I had kept some for references. I really didn't get over the JW doctrinal teachings until a year or so after I moved and I wish I could have read some of the things straight from the publications that I have read here on the internet. There is just something about seeing it in black and white.

  Good to see you are moving on, don't you feel so much happier! I know it is a long, hard road to recovery, but so worth it!!!

  It looks like we are going to have a really good turnout. We have xJWs coming from Columbus, OH down to Lexington, KY! We are really excited and hope to make this a monthly thing! Maybe come summer, a full blown "Apostafest" of our own!
