I grew up in the Sun Valley Congregation. I am one of seven...so you would probably know me or at least we should know some of the same people. I am in my thirties...we will leave it at that! Does the name "Goetz" ring a bell?

JW Elder Spy Stories

My brother was policed by the JW elders for some time. He had quit going to the meetings and they had heard that he moved in with his girlfriend (in which, he did). They lived in a secured apartment building and my brother was working 2nd shift. They would go to his apartment during the day and continually ring the door bell to no avail, and thn they would proceed to the closest pay phone and call them. After repeated attempts and no response, they eventually sent him a certified letter saying he was going to be disfellowshipped. He didn't respond and was disfellowshipped.
One of my good friends started dating a "worldly guy" who she convinced to start studying. But, after doing his own studying on the internet he convinced her to leave the JWs. She tried to fade away, but the elders would show up on her doorstep trying to find any excuse to disfellowship her. They eventually disfellowshipped her without her knowledge. She found out months later from her JW sister. When her JW sister (whose husband is an elder) questioned the elders at her congregation, they told her that her sister had written them a letter disassociating herself and that she had sent apostate material to others in the congregation. Neither of these were true, and the story goes that the elders involved were deleted for their actions, but she was never reinstated.
Another friend had the elders pass her in their car and they did a quick turnaround and cornered her at the supermarket parking lot. They demanded that she meet with them or be disfellowshipped. She met with them and was disfellowshipped anyway.

Are You Hooked On a Soap?
by Sentinel ini can't believe they still refer to these shows as "soaps", but yes, i'll be the first to admit that i tape one soap show regularly, and am quite up on all the goings on.
and, sometimes, i suppose i can even admit to being obsessive.
this is especially so, if the story line is at a very good place, and the power goes off during my day at work, and it doesn't get taped.

Well, I rarely post and since I am choosing to post to this thread, I am quite obviously hooked on a soap! I love General Hospital! If I miss the 3:00pm episode, I can catch it again at 10:00pm or 10:00am the next morning on SoapNet.

Years ago you composed a general letter to elders threatening legal action if they made any announcement to the congregation in the form of dissfellowshipping or dissacociation. I thought I had saved it many time over -- instead I saved many of your post from H2O. If per chance you still have that letter in you files or archives would you forward it to me again. I hope you and Julie are doing well, things here are good although up and down sometimes. Michelle told me that she met you in Paducah, Kentucky and that you may be going to Florida this weekend for another reunion. Best wishes for that trip.

Is Having Kids Worth It?

i'd like to have kids, but the trouble with dating guys who are over 30 is that by now most have a kid and/or have decided they don't want any/more.
so i am getting faced with the dilemma of maybe finding that someone special, but he may not want to have kids.

Hi Becky! I just read your story and I was very moved by it. You have really come a long way in your life journey and I am so happy for you.
Hey, didn't your parents bring my parents into the organization ?...or at least study with them for some time? I still remember you coming over to our house all the time when we were just kids, and I still remember playing "peoples" with you at your house! (Remember throwing snowballs out of the Strickmeyer's truck that snowy night?) Remember the hayrides and parties? Oh, and I am sorry I almost killed you when I wrecked my car out in service! Remember PKT(Pioneer kill time)?
We really have a lot of history together, and even though we don't get to talk or see each other that often, I am happy to call you my friend!

Jesus a "cult"?

using the same standards that you guys are using... jesus and the apostles were a "cult"... .
i have heard other jws defend the term "cult" with the same illustration, so it definitely sounds like a parrotted answer from the wtbs.
