i was re-reading another thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/218101/2/governing-body-pics) and i just couldn't help thinking that the faithful and discreet slaves may perhaps be faithful and discreet, but they are certainly not humble.
they let other witnesses treat them like special holy men.
not that i would have expected anything different from them, but i feel they should at least act otherwise for appearances' sake.. would it be fit for the members of the board of directors of any big company (enron, say) feel they have a special quality to them, one that puts them above all other humans, just because they approve things with two thirds of the vote?.

Very sad indeed. However, I'm surprised they tried to do a lap-band surgery at all with all her other medical conditions. SHE made her own decision, she was most likely informed of the inherent dangers of this procedure before had. I'm glad she had her medical wishes respected, as I would want my own respected too. That being said, I'm going through my wallet to find my ancient blood card and tear it up.

is it really possible to continue as a jw but not believing in it anymore.
for how long can one keep up with this pace of life?.
i will appreciate it if any scientific study had been done on this and what has the result showed?..
They can go on as long a they personally need to, and their emotional stability holds. Their personal needs maybe because elderly family members are in, or a spouse, or all their kids. One cannot judge why they haven't 'bitten the bullet' yet and left. Very difficult either way.

my in-laws really wished they had taken control and homeschooled their one granchild.
today, i witnessed a middle school bus stop bully and another group of teenaged girls smoking something illegal.
my 5th grader is headed to middle school next year.
Perhaps they can be better prepared for life if they didn't have to face their peers, you know the ones bullying them on the bus, at school, on facebook.
They might not have to deal with drunk or drugged out kids, sex on the bus or in the woods, and so forth, so they can actually learn, really and truly learn in a nurturing enviroment. Some schools are armed with uniformed police in the hallways to prevent violence. That a great educationall enviroment,
How many as adults are routinely bullied, to the point it follows you home on your smart phone, how many are bullied on the bus or hallways of you secular job? I would venture very few.
My sons college professor told him that he was getting a much better education home schooling than he would've in public school. 15 yo and qualifies for college level science and is holding an A in the class.
If this post is incoherent its because I took an ambien 20 min. ago and cannot think clearly. Sorry!

The Saxon Math program is fantastic! My family and many other homeschool families use Saxon, as well as some school districts. You can order the program new from rainbowresource.com (they literally have a hardcopy catalog with over 1200 pages of homeschool supplies, free for the asking, it has great descriptions of products), or order used parent/teacher lesson books from e-bay, as well as the workbooks and daily meeting books, which should be new to be of greatest benefit. PowerGlide has a really great foreign language program, we like it better than Rosetta Stone (we have both), my kids really beg to do Spanish, they love it so much. E-bay, Amazon, alibris are all good sources for homeschool supplies. Having a globe is really fun to, we often reference where places are in relation to our geographic location.
If you are in the USA, I'd recommend the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Assoc.) if you live in a high compliance state, and even if you don't. They are big proponents of parental rights and will advise you should you run into problems with your school district, even supplying you with an attorney if necessary. You can get a yearly membership, and a card announcing that you are a homeschool teacher. It has gotten us discounts for the entrance fees for some educational places we have visited.
Homeschooling is fun. Maybe your daughter only needs a little more individual one-on-one education to really excel. The one size fits all of public school doesn't allow for variations in the individual child, and in many areas the class size is increasing.
We have a weekly group we join for socialization, so the social aspect is taken care of.
Calvert Home School in Maryland, which also has a private school, has a comprehensive curriculum and offers an advisory teacher program, where your child has a teacher they are accountable to. It can be pricy however, and I don't like their math program-I and my kids find it confusing. They do have a good English/language program however.
Hopes this info helps you a little.

even though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.
i felt like i could ignore the hypocrisy, manipulative and fake personalities and still have true friends and unbreakable family bonds.
even though my concience would bother me i would always try to forgive.
For years I've had nagging doubts, and mental questions of WTF? The very annoying high control, but one of the most ridiculous was not to make recordings of public talks and share them with people who are not in your congregation. Why ever not? Shouldn't anything said publically on any KH stage or at an assembly be okay to share with others? Finally, we had a Watchtower study early this summer which basically said that if you were serving and going out in FS only to save ourself, Jehovah would know and you weren't worthy. I would have never gone out in FS if it wasn't a requirement for salvation. So I stopped FS and began my FADE. Also-the constant beggin'g for money...and calling every annoying duty a 'priviledge'. It is a priviledge to scrape the crap out of the toilet. It is a priviledge to go out in FS. It is a priviledge to help weirdos at the KH by driving them to the assembly.
It is a priviledge to experience relief at not doing this garbage anymore!!!

this morning as i was driving back home from putting rug rat #2 in pre-school, i saw one middle-school boy throw another kid into some thorny bushes at our local bus stop.
the kid sailed through the air and landed face down.
i stopped to see what had gone down.
This is why I choose to homeschool. I witnessed the same things when I supervised my kid at the bus stop. The brats there would hurl rocks at us and issue insults. One kid had a fire fetish. I drove my kid to and from school for three years before deciding homeschooling would be better, and it really is. We love it!!

i need your guys help.. some of you might know some of my past from other posts...but new life changes have happened to me.. i have recently joined the united states navy.
i was orginally going in as a nuclear engineer...i have instead opted for a much less boring life in the advanced electronics computer field (aecf) rate.
my father's side of the family (who has been out for 20+ years) are very excited and proud of me for my decision.
Wow, good for you, sounds really exciting. Sorry about your mom flipping out, however, that is to be expected when one is a JW. She sounds totally and completely brainwashed. Maybe you could just shun her back and not bother telling her when you leave, as it doesn't sound like she wants to know anyway.

what was your experience like as a kid on halloween growing up in a jw family?.
i was raised in a jw family but never got baptized.. my father used to make me and my sister put old awakes and watchtower's in the trick or treaters' bags.
we would say: "i don't celebrate halloween but here's a treat for you!
When I was a kid, we, and a lot of other local JWs & their kids, went to Knott's Berry Farm amusement park, for the evening and had loads of fun. When I told the kids at school, they were JEALOUS of me!! It was a super, super time.
