  My Return Visit....

  last thanksgiving i was down in southern new mexico visiting my in-law's.

  while i was there, i ran off some jws (i used to attend their congregation) that were attempting to call on my sister in law.

  i had also posted anti jw signs all over town and in front of the kh.

  What was life like for you as a JW teenager?

  in the wt's illistrations they portray jw teenagers as happy, together group.

  my experinace is that the jw teenagers in the cong were some of the bitchyist backstabbing arse holes i'll ever meet.. it was unheard of for us to engage in group "wholesome activity" as show in the wt's illistrations.

  the competition amongst the girls for the handsome, sane and elders sons were cut throat.

  It was depressing being a JW as a teen. I was actually extremely pretty and had an amazing looking boyfriend (at least I thought he was amazing looking). The other girls in the circuit, which was huge in area, said horrid things about me. I had never even met these girls or knew they existed. My best friend was invited to a party and these girls started in about me being a bitch and stuck up and so forth. She was stunned, thankfully she told them that I was her best friend and a really nice sweet person. All of this came about because of my handsome boyfriend.

  High school was difficult because of being asked to do things that you knew your parents would never let you do, like go to a school dance. Getting asked out by different guys was embarassing because of course you had to say "no" repeated and seem like you thought you were too good for them.

  We did manage to get groups to go skiing at night a few times, it was cheaper at night, and it was super fun. We had teens coming from 75 miles to go skiing. Needless to say, the kabosh was put on that, we were having too much fun and the adults in the various congs felt we weren't properly chaperoned.

  We had a rip roaring masquerade roller skating party, there were probably 350 people there, it was really fun. Then maybe 6 months later, there was a Watchtower about large parties and masquerade parties where men actually put on womens clothes as costumes. There had been one young brother at our party who wore his obese mother's polyester dress, stuffed to fit him, along with his athletic socks, a crazy wig and he kept his moustache. He looked really funny, no one thought he was a homosexual like the Watchtower infered. He commented to me that he felt that article was directed at him.

  mrsjones5-darling! I did say from my OWN trial and error, perhaps it was just me picking toads. I'd like to think that your hubby's hatred of cats, is solely because his immune system freaks out when they are around him. NOT because he secretly thinks up ways to torture the fuzzy dears.

  If I had known the cat question worked so well for me, I could've spared myself a hellacious first marriage.

  I did pop the cat question to hubby number 2, and he actually had his very own kitty. So I knew that he was a good guy. 20 years later, it still is really good.

  Seriously however, the SPCA magazine I used to get, had an article focusing on people who abused animals, cats are a big target of abusers, and they have found that people who abuse animals move on to human targets a large portion of the time. Think Jeffery Dahmer, the cannibal serial killer, he started with animals.

  00DAD-I once went out a few times with a guy who decided to bring a porn movie to my house, my pussy-cat, Boo, attacked him! Clawed him good he did. Good kitty, Good kitty! I showed the guy the door and never went out with him again.

  Funny, yet I did that myself. I wouldn't date men who hated cats. From my own trial and error, I found that most men who hate cats have control issues. Cats don't like to be bossed and ordered around, neither do women. Men who hate cats usually love dogs. Dogs will do anything to have the 'master' or 'man' in this instance, give them attention, they will even literally eat shit.

  I do have and love a dog, but this is in addition to having cats.

  just a small commentary for those so inclined to read on what i think is a very important factor to successfully leaving jw's and moving on with your life.. it is understandable to leave at a bad/low point in your life.

  jehovahs witnesses are a cult, and whether they force you out, or you choose to leave on your own, its still on their terms.

  I've been reading 'Every day a Friday, How to Be Happier in Seven Days' by Joel Osteen, (I know, I know, he is a pastor and his book has a lot of references to God, which I am ignoring) and it is really, really good. He helps you start off your day in a positive way. I've been reading it aloud to my deeply ingrained JW spouse, and he finds it helpful too. I was going to return it to where got it from when I saw all the references to god, but after I started reading it, I decided to keep it. If anyone needs a boost to help them feel more positive, they might try this book.

  It is funny to read someone, not a JW, (Joel Osteen in this instance) using scriptures that we are all familiar with, in a way that is upbuilding, instead of brow beating you with the bible. He quotes lots of different bibles, and many of them seem more poetic and soothing than what the NWT reads like.

  ATJ-thank you for the reminder not to let ourselves get mired in misery.
