  i heard a recording of a talk by a bro.

  who's topic was something to the effect of 'coincidences in the history of wtbts and jehovah's direction'.

  i believe it was an american bro., who claimed that a woman who owned a mansion in atlanta, at the time of general sherman's march to the sea, and subsequent burning of atlanta, had her mansion saved.

  I heard a recording of a talk by a bro. who's topic was something to the effect of 'Coincidences in the History of WTBTS and Jehovah's Direction'. I believe it was an American bro., who claimed that a woman who owned a mansion in Atlanta, at the time of General Sherman's March to the Sea, and subsequent burning of Atlanta, had her mansion saved. This was divine direction because she later became involved, somehow as a relative, with the Coca-Cola company, received a ton of money from them, and helped finance the making of early 'Creation' film made by Russell.

  Does anyone know anything about this? I can't seem to find out if she existed. I cannot remember her name. I've tried various websites of Coca-Cola history and which buildings survived in Atlanta, but no luck. My hubby is using this point to help prove god is with the org.

  Any help is appreciated.

  Phone call from the local JWs this evening...

  gosh i wish i was better at having religious discussions with jws.

  this evening, as i am at home trying to relax, i get a phone call from the local jws who are evidently sitting in their kh dialing out.. i got this man who starts off by asking me if he can ask me a question.

  "okaaaaay..." i say slowly.... "do you think..." he starts... and then stops... obviously losing his place in his pre-prepared sermon....

  Blondie, Interesting as usual. Regarding paragraph 18, does it state in any early record from the time, that the 'sincere bible students' were only men? The ending of paragraph 18 seems to indicate men only, but I thought women were early bible students too. Were they to be seen and not heard?

  they warn the person actually reading the book that they should heed their warnings of armageddon, as it "will come in your lifetime".

  since they now pin it on the life of anybody who reads the book, only one of those who read it needs to die to prove them wrong.. if i die it didnt come in my lifetime neither!

  don t these clowns really think about some of the stuff they print?.

  for all the criticism of jehovah's witnesses' shunning policy, if one (an ex jw) were to deliberately avoid contact with witnesses and, dare i say, shun them, does that mean that one is just as bad?.

  question: how does the leadership of jehovah's witnesses instruct its members to prepare for the eventual elder care of its members?.

  answer: it pretends it will never happen!.

  Terry-good points, all of them. My parents are rapidly approaching this, father is on medical retirement, mom gets so little retirement money from her back breaking and disgusting labor of working in a medical facility laundry, that it is laughable. They are often telling me how no one ever visits or phones them. They are constantly being asked to ferry people to and from meetings and assemblies, even though they can barely drive themselves in the best of conditions, much less winter or night driving conditions. They own their own home, but can't care for it properly, and I live hundreds of miles away in another state. They've managed to alienate my only sibling remaining in their area by JW ordered shunning.

  I have begged them for years to move near me, but they are sincerely incapable of making decisions, as the end is nigh, and should they uproot themselves with armegeddon right around the corner.......
