Silent-This post definitely touches a nerve for me. I grew up with the same circumstances and ridiculous JW sayings that you did. Being commended for being faithful, then it turns around to being not humble. All the things we missed out on.

My daughter commented yesterday that it was against the bible to have birthday parties. I told her, 'actually, the bible doesn't say anything about birthday parties being bad', so she amended it to, 'we believe birthday parties are bad'. I'm hoping that by continually pointing out that things we are taught are true, really aren't in the bible at all, or are corrupted to sound a certain way, to keep control of everyone.

there's so much going on in my life right now but i'll be posting more about that later.. .

to get straight to the point (i'm actually in the meeting right now) my mother has been very depressed about a lot of things lately.

she is a regular pioneer and is a jw who many think is happy but she's a good faker and knows all to well how to put on a fake smile to cover up her true feelings.

OneDay-Hurray for you! Things look like they are looking up! She does seem to be genuine. (It is sick, isn't it, that we all have to be so damned guarded and paranoid of the motives of our own families...but we all know too well what can happen if we don't suspect them!)

one of my friends who is a ms told me today that the elders have 'marked' me because i'm a reg.pioneer and i've decided to go to college next semester???!

he said he can't tell me anymore but to be careful---what the hell does 'mark' mean?

MsGrowingGirl20-Do not be dissauded from going to college, those of us here, who forfeited it, would love to be able to go back and change our decisions. There are worse things than being marked, being stuck in poverty due to a lack of education, is one of them.

I find this hilarious! I know of a WTBTS attorney who they sent to law school in the past 10 years. He practices soley for them. The GB should remove themselves from their positions for paying for his schooling. His initials are J. A., he and his wife travel all over the world for the WTBTS. He's also gone to parties at the UN.

since my spouse is an active elder, i accompany him to sads, cas and das, at least for the time being.

anyway, i thought i'd share some of the more odd/disturbing bits from the latest "sanctify god's name" ca.

there wasn't anything particularly new but the tone toward porn, higher ed, bad assoc, "habitual" murmuring and harmful gossip is definitely hardening, as are the cautions against social networking.

Ugh! Now I'm tempted to go when hubby goes, just so I can look him in the face and ask, "Now what was that all about?" He doens't like the push for more, more, more any more than anyone else. The generation thing will need to be mentally filed so I can ask him what his thoughts are. What a load of steaming crap!

Does anyone know about Monsanto?

i was sent a petition stop supermarkets here in uk from selling products supplied by a company called monsanto.

i have never heard of them so i googled them and there doesn't seem to be anything good being said.

should we be worried over here?.

The collapse of honey bee colonies, or hives, is related the pesticides made by Monsanto. Also, the bovine growth hormone used to increase milk production. In the USA, if you are a store that require farmers to not use the growth hormone, and have a sign on you milk display case that says: Our milk doesn't contain growth hormone, the law require that the consumer be advised by another notice that says, basically: human growth hormone doesn't cause any problems. Monsanto lobbied for this requirement, and won.
