Ever Have A Close Call?
by rocketman inyesterday i had a close call on the road - an out-of-control pickup truck veered into my lane, spinning as it approached and crashed into a pole about 50 feet in front of my car.
this is the second close encounter i've had, (both involving someone driving a pickup truck).
in this case, a couple of seconds made a huge difference, since i may have been directly hit had i just been a bit further along in my drive.. i would imagine that once a few days pass, i'll give less and less thought to the incident and i doubt it will precipitate major changes in my life or outlook (which i generally think is pretty healthy).

Driving down the interstate in Pennsylvania, I see cars flying left and right from the lane I was traveling in...there was a semi-truck driving the wrong way towards us.

I think it was a one or two word answer. This kid is still little and can't read much except for basic Dr. Seuss. When told of their answering, I was very non-commital, and didn't make a big deal over it one way or the other. I wish there was a way to keep the kids home. Everytime they go though, they tell me how boring and long it is...which I agree with.

I am what I am
by joe134cd ini was just thinking today.
i heard the term been frazed as a "neutral witness".
i think that's what best describes me.

Ding-I thought the same thing earlier today, 'why does the WTBTS ignore good works Jesus spoke of and focus only on field service?' Converts keep them in the cash. Giving to the poor, helping others would cost $$$, and we will have none of that!

JW's would rather have "wordly" people at their parties...
by nolongerconfused inso...i have been completely out for 6 months, never df'd, just completely faded...my wife is still 100% active...turns out one of her cousins who is also an active witness is having their birthday...ahem, graduation party this summer.
my wife told me she wouldn't feel "comfortable" if i attend their parties/gatherings because i don't go to the meetings lol.
so she and her cousin are planning the graduation party as i type, and they are talking about inviting their school friends etc etc.

nolongerconfused-Maybe your wife doesn't want to deal with the inevitable questions she will get later: 'Why doesn't your husband come to meetings', 'How is your husband? We haven't seen him since the party', and the secret mumblings of 'If he can go to a party, he can come to meetings'.
When I was married to my first husband, people used to ask me all the time, "How is Dick? We miss him". I would try to come up with some excuse. Finally, I just answered truthfully, "He doesn't fee like coming" or "Why don't you tell him yourself you miss him? Our phone number is XXX-XXXX", the questions soon stopped, and nobody missed him enough to make an effor to call him. He was an ass, so I understand that. But their questioning put me in a very uncomfortable position of trying to make up something to make him look like he was too sick to come. Maybe your wife is getting those same questions now, and doesn't want to deal with more. You could always tell her to tell the truth to the inquiring people, "nolongerconfused doesn't feel like coming', it will cause the questioner to feel embarassed and they will stop asking for fear of getting a truthful answer.

Can one person make a difference? Need your help please.
by apocalypse ini am feeling a bit out of sorts & i need to bounce this off the board.. do some of you remember the coming out of the un scandal back when?.
have you seen the letter from the un in c of c?.
i am sitting here with that original letter in my hand.. the day before the date on this letter, i had heard about the watchtower involvement on hourglass2.

apocalypse-yes it does make a difference. I made a huge difference to me. When I was a child, there were letter campaigns to the authorities of Malawi to stop the persecution of the 'brothers' who were being persecuted because of not buying a .25 cent political party card. It was heart-wrenching for a little kid to hear of all the despicable things done to those JWs.
Upon learning within the last 3 years about the WTBTS involvement with the UN, allegedly for library 'priviledges', it sickened me. A Malawi JW couldn't buy a stupid card and remain in good standing, but the Borg could have NGO affiliation with the UN...what hypocrites.
