Quendi-We used to hold our baptisms at the YMCA, and we know how a JW isn't supposed to be a member there. The borg made the excuse they were just renting the pool, not endorsing the Y itself...then came the UN NGO thing, so it is basically 'do what I say, not what I do.

It is a gorgeous, sunny Sunday
by PaintedToeNail ini'm so glad i have been able to be puttering around my yard, planting flowers, pulling weeds, drinking coffee while on the porch, instead of being locked in a stuffy kingdom hall, being bored to death, watching the clock and hoping nobody was going to be long-winded on the comments at the watchtower and we would end up overtime.
.
isn't it great to be able to have a leisurely sunday morning?.

in todays watchtower, the society used the first chapter of nahum to explain why a father who lost his job would put his trust in jehovah by going out in service midweek.
-
PaintedToeNail
Why bring in Nahum? IMHO it is because people are getting desensitized to the usual guilt inducing scriptures, so the WTBTS needs to think up a crazy story and apply obscure scriptures to try to get around the problem.
It would be unthinkable that the father try to look for gainful employment during the week when most businesses are open, yes trust in Jehovah and all your bills will be paid, money will rain down from heaven and solve all your problems as long as you go out in service during the middle of the week when every householder is not home, because they are gainfully employed.

Would most of us find it annoying to go to an event, where speakers were supposed to speak on a particular subject, a subject that had been reviewed by the organizers and approved, only to have them speak about something else? It would irk me to go to a financial seminar and then be forced to listen to a presentation about scrapbooking...however, had this occured during a District Convention and a brother started quoting JWFacts would have been priceless!

Should all elders be painted with the same brush?
by Socrateswannabe inan hour or two ago, i was reading a topic on this forum that welcomed new elders to jwn.
there was some criticism aimed at the op and i understand that elders shouldn't be singled out as special.
one poster said he/she hates all elders.
-
PaintedToeNail
Socrates-I agree with you, there were many kind, sincere elders I have known in various congregations. There are a few who are total jerks, but somehow, I think they maybe acting with an enthusiasm similar to what Aaron's son, (Phineas ?) did. Basically going overboard in their 'jealousy' for Jehovah. These ones are over the top, looking for every infraction. Militant. They are lauded for their spiritual purity and so on, so it feeds their frenzy.
I empathize with your being trapped, and admire your honesty that you don't have the courage to openly leave...that is a very difficult row to hoe and no here should judge you negatively for wanting to protect yourself from the messy fall out.
Wishing you the best.

contribution
by kokyong.soon3 infor a long time the congregation that i am in,it used to meet in the homes and no expenses were incurred for the plce of meeting.but, now they are convening in a rented place and congregation expenditure suddenly shoot up.currently the monthly contribution is about $500 whereas the expenditure is $600.i wonder who is going to pay for the deficit..
-

kokoyong-It is difficult for homeowners to have meetings in their homes, I had one in my home for awhile and the wear on your house can be difficult to watch. Plus, you have to keep it super clean, which can be difficult to do when you are a working mother with a baby. No one offers to come over and help you clean like they do the Kingdom Hall. I'm not surprised that the congregation where you are is now renting a place, maybe the homeowners got tired of all the thankless work they were expected to do.
They will probably make the attendees feel guilty enough to contribute the shortfall in funds that is now occuring.

Caleb's Prayer To Jehovah After Trashing Sparlock To Keep Jehovah From Experiencing A Major Depression
by frankiespeakin inplease click the louis armstrong video and read.. dear jehovah i approach you in jesus name this is what i want to say:.
yesterday i tossed my farvorite toy "sparlock the warrior wizard" in the garbage can because my mommy who is one of your witnesses said it would make you sadly depressed.
i beg for your forgiveness in jesus name, if i had known before hand i would have never excepted this gift from johnny my worldly friend who mommy said was most likely going to be destroyed at armageddon because his parents are worldly and make you very sad because they are not jehovah's witnesses like my parents.. and after thinking the matter over i decided to burn sparlock just to make sure you forgive me, i'm so so sorry i made you sad please don't take my life at armageddon.

frankie-You are a mind reader! As a little kid, I used to pray like that (without the arm removal & eye poking-out stuff) that Jehovah wouldn't kill me for some crazy infraction...so sad! Kids are really made to feel that they are worthy of death in the borg.
