Householders will appreciate the smaller magazines. They will take up less space in their trash cans.

Less literature for Field Service means more Bible usage...
by Alfred ini recently asked my jw elder brother (who thinks i'm just "inactive") what he makes of the reduction in pages of the wt & awake rags.... his response was something like:.
well this was something that has been discussed for a long time.
the society feels that the brothers need to start using the bible more in field service so they are slowly reducing the pages of the literature to encourage the brothers to read the bible more and not depend so much on the literature.

Thanks for posting this.
I wouldn't have been able to make quality recordings of talks like this. You wouldn't have been able to hear the speaker over the sound of me snoring.

Everyone here is WRONG. With four Super Bowl wins, the Pittsburgh Steelers clearly conquered the world in the 70s.

I like the one where he said, in court, that j-ho is the editor of the watchtower.
Question: At any rate, Jehovah God is now the editor of the paper, is that right?
Freddie: He is today the editor of the paper.
As far as I can tell, Fred Franz was an all-out douchebag.

"They took no note" - ?
by compound complex ina friend and i talked on the phone recently, and he read matthew 24:36-38 from 3 different versions of the bible.
the various renderings indicated that the citizenry were not aware of a coming judgment nor did they suspect anything, giving rise to the thought: what did noah preach (if anything)?
likewise, were people in areas far removed from noah's alleged ark building apprised of his monumental feat?

Included in the list of people who "took no note" were the following well-established cultures and civilizations:
Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley, Egypt, the Minoans, and the Chinese.
Not only did these cultures "take no note" of Noah's warning, they also "took no note" of the flood itself, since we can see through archaeological records that their civilizations proceeded uninterrupted right through the time when they should have been wiped out by Noah's flood.
The flood myth is one of the funnest bible stories to pick apart because it's probably the most ridiculous story ever, when you take it literally.

I've noticed that they are doing a lot of the "cartoonized photo" effect with their pictures lately, especially in articles for young people. On the surface, I would guess they are trying to appear more modern, mainstream, etc.
But the cynical (and mentally diseased) me thinks that perhaps they're going this route because they are having such a hard time retaining teens and young adults, and they were really getting sick of having magazines that are full of photos of young people who are now disfellowshipped... so they cartoonize the photos, and now it won't matter if the kids get DF'ed, since you can't really identify who is who in the pictures.

Absurd WT Control in April 2012 KM
by LostGeneration inyeah in the section on attending the convention, you will find this gem:.
"therefore, we should give attention to our dress and grooming while in the convention city, including when we check in at the hotel.
arriving in shorts and a t-shirt would not reflect dignity.".

Oh that's right. I forgot to give suit man a badge. There, NOW he is dignified. Suit and badge = good.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses fundamentalists?
by Celestial ini googled the phrase and a q & a from their official media web site appeared within the first few hits:.
http://www.jw-media.org/aboutjw/article32.htm.
are you fundamentalists?.

While we have strong religious convictions, we are not fundamentalists in the sense that the term has come to be used.
Notice how, in typical watchtower-speak, they do not tell us what definition of "fundamentalism" they object to. They give us the vague line "...we are not fundamentalists in the sense that the term has come to be used." What definition? Because here is a definition of fundamentalist that fits them to a tee: from the Collins English Dictionary: " the belief that every word of the Bible is divinely inspired and therefore true."
We do not believe that every passage in the Bible is to be interpreted literally.
Do all fundamentalist religions believe that every passage should be interpreted literally? I think that even the strictest fundamentalist recognizes that some verses are clearly allegorical or poetic, and thus not to be taken literally. Watchtower is creating an incorrect definition of "fundamentalist" and then saying "by THIS definition, we are not fundamentalist."
We do not pressure political leaders to promote a certain point of view, nor do we resort to demonstrations and violence against those who disagree with us.
Implication: all fundamentalists pressure political leaders. They all demonstrate. They all resort to violence against those who disagree. Therefore, since we do not do these things, we are not fundamentalists.
The Bible teaches Christians to be kind, good, mild, and reasonable—qualities that do not allow for the kind of fanaticism that is sometimes associated with fundamentalism.—James 3:17.
Fanatacism is "sometimes" associated with fundamentalism. And the watchtower isn't fanatical at all, right? They just print things in their magazines like "apostates are mentally diseased" (7/15/11 wt) and "women should stay with their abusive husbands for 17 years in hopes that the husband will become a jw (2/15/12 wt) and Jehu was encouraging "the slaughter of apostates" (11/15/11 wt). With the watchtower's blessing, active jehovah's witnesses will completely cut off association with a family member who stops believing. That's not religious fanatacism? Oh ok.
