Should you ever tell tour aging parents the truth about the truth

since finding out the truth about the truth myself and having successfully extricated myself and my parents about the jw's, i find myself with a new dilema that being they still believe the bible as a literal book for their salvation as i has read all of thomas paines works and how the bible is not very good for the human family, as they are of advancing years would it be inappropriate to shatter their illusions of some kind of paradise and let them flounder in a moral precipice and wonder what their lives have been about.

on the flip side once their time has come how would i feel for not telling them their false views.

at the moment i am in the deist point of view, with a tendency of the agnostic, it is quite a dilema!.

I'd give them the gift of choice, instead of deciding for them. They are free beings, they are worth the truth if they want to discover it.

Just ask them if they'd prefer knowing a truth even if it might hurt them greatly, or keep with what they've always beleived.

I know for myself even if I was in their situation and was to die in the next few days, month or years, I'd want to know the truth, and would actually punch in the face any so-called friend that knew something like that but tried to hide it from me.

Even people that have a terminal ilness and only a few month to live can still achieve a lot - do some of the things that always really mattered for them but that they always postponed. Even with a few hours, I'd spend them reading a lot about the subject, and would be allowed to realign my past life with reality.

Some atheists have the feeling the truth has nothing to offer for comfort, unlike religion, and are afraid to leave people with nothing. That is because they themselves haven't yet developped a compeling narrative, not because life as an atheist leaves you with nothing. Life through reality's lens is wonderful, and inscribing yourself in the "greatest show on earth" is far more compeling than some myth developped thousand of years ago by people who where the antic conterpart of today's abusive cults. Even when you have only a few days, month or years to incribe yourself in it, it can give a real sense to your past life that your previous belief system never had in any convincing way.

That's the only reason I didn't send a disassociation letter. I'm planning on having some long JC + appeal sessions eventually, but before that there's plenty of rank and file that deserve to be given an informed choice more than a few elders. So I'm doing the minimal to still have access to people I know. It's going to take time to see everyone I care about, because first the bulldozer appoach doesn't work, and second I'm still trying to get a life, and that's a priority.

I don't need the Borg in my life, nor anybody still mentally in. There's no real friendship in a high control group.

I don't condomne supporting the scam and contributing to the mind control though, even for the sake of familly. Since that's what public talks and other parts from servants do, I certainly won't give them, nor go preaching or give comments at the KH, except when those comments represent the ugly thruth and can help the less asleep wake up a bit.

Why am I so special?

if we are to accept that intelligence plays no part in wether or not we become duped into a cult, then the same rule must apply to those who wake up and make an exit.. so why am i so special?

i had basically the same experiences as my family and i am the only one out.

i don't claim to be some towering intelect, but even if i were it shouldn't matter.

First, intelligence varies in the same familly, whether due to genetical or environmental causes. But our own bodies also play a great role, people with a stonger natural resistance to fatigue and sickness may have an easier time being confident in themselves - and a minimal level of confidence is important when getting out from the borg. Chemical or hormonal balances will mean someone will be more or less swayed by either logic or sentimental pressures - when your body rewards you by producing a contented/happy/at peace feeling when you're doing something, you'll be inclined to keep at it, even if that activity is objectively harmfull - like being easily swayed by the group's opinion. You will even start to justify it, and consider things as "logical" and "true" because of what they make you feel, instead of their inherent value. I'm no psy, but I don't think you need to be one to recognise that each familly sees different personnality types among their kids.

Then even in the same familly our experiences are different. You didn't have the same classmates as your brothers and sisters, and even your parents didn't raise any of you siblings the same as the others - parents learn with the eldest some things don't work, and adjust them for the other ones. Or parents get older and have less energy giving a consistent education, or they have more kids thus less time to give to their kids at a time where one is a teenager and the other still a preteen - thus inpacting each kid in a different manner.

Thanks guys for all the info. Seems like the WT doesn't have anything recent to say about this topic. I was hoping to ambush my Mom or one of my sisters and see what they had to say. They have hounded me to come back to "the truth" for a long, long, time....*sigh* I want to corner them on a subject they know nothing about and watch them squirm!

Why not corner them with Noah's Flood? Nothing makes less sense than the story of the flood, and you can show how stupid the WT explanations are on all levels. Or if you prefer bones, what about the fact we've found hundreds of human fossils far older than Adam & Eve - and when they resort to the C14 fallacy, don't just teach them the other datation methods that concur, take the quote from the Bible Word of God or Word of man book and show them how the Society lies about Hitching being a scientist when even his books show him as only a journalist - dealing with the supernatural...

now is a good time to start making preparations for the memorial night demonstration at your kingdom hall thursday, april 5, 2012, after sundown.. close to 20 million people will attend this annual global witness event including active witnesses, relatives and friends of witnesses, bible studies,return visits and still attached former witnesses.

the evils of the watchtower org.have to be exposed and this is an ideal time to do it.. many around the world have been adversely affected by their association with jehovah's witnesses and you can be an instrumental force by standing tall and courageously exposing the watchtower organization.. there is no better way to let the watchtower know your revulsion than to broadcast and present your view by standing fearlessly, demonstrating in front of a kingdom hall.. i am fully aware that a handful of the internet therapists who post on this forum will not agree with this method of unmasking the watchtower.. those intolerant, contemptuous critics who will comment on this thread making harsh judgements and finding fault with those who protest are perhaps deep-down wishing they had the backbone to stop hiding in cyber-space, step away from their computer and "get out of the bleachers and into the game" .

lets make this a global event!......

Who are you koolaid-man? You sound exactly like the typical elder... if you are still an active Witness like you sound, what are you doing on this forum? Not that you shouldn't, hopefully you don't just start hateful threads but stay and read a bit, that way you might discover the truth about the WT you worship so much... and eventually turn back into a decent human being.

There is hope for everyone koolaid-man, so don't give up on yourself. Some of us where like you when we were still in the organisation.

(some people follow Christ, and so God, out of love and understanding the truth of what Christ taught... that is the point I was trying to make. Not because they're going to get a million dollars if they follow; or an ass-kicking if they don't)

The million dollars, like the rest of the story, is not litteral. What some people get of their belief in God is not necessarilly a future reward - it is often more about the present-day skirt to hold on to. When it's dark outside and you're scared, it's no wonder many would love that reassuring skirt they feel gives them protection and cares for them.

Yes they can. 6 mass extinction events in the histoy of life on earth (not incluing the deluge, which we know didn't happen), billions of living beings killed, millions of species extinct, at one time up to 97% of oceanic species lost, beautiful living organisms not to be found ever again. There's no intrisic better value between an animal's life and another, us included. We hold the value of our fellow humans higher because we're of the same species (not saying it's wrong), but each species does the same, a wolf would value another wolf's life higher than that of a human for example.

The God I serve has shown himself to be stronger than the another god mentioned in the Bible. I need not look any further. I can't prove this to you of course but it underpins my faith. Once Moses found the burning bush he didnt look for another. Not all Gods are the same as Pharoah found out. Man makes many gods, including himself.

You're aware than the Israelites never were in Egypt, never had to leave it and there never was a Moses to lead those out of that empire? You're aware the people that later formed the country known as Juda come from a different origin than what the Bible says?

As for being "stronger", history has shown repeteadly that Juda's gods were weaker that those of neighbouring nations, Egypt included. Especially the YHWH one, since Juda's darkest times (military defeats, invasions, devastations...) were under the "faithfull" kings like Josias... You thus might want to reconsider your assertion...

For the few "elite" that know perfectly the facts about the WTS and the lies, yet protects the organisation at all costs and ruin other people's lives, none of those feeling of course. They are despicable.

It's more that I'm absolutely confident it's no source for Divine Truth at all.

Can't answer, it depends on the people. I beleive all of them deserve to be helped to see the truth, even if some will never want to admit it and would rather betray you.

Jung Chang and Jon Halliday (Mao: The unknown Story). Some articles online about the 6 great extinction events, some articles describing the way Scientology works. Then asking myself the right question about the Flood, and I knew the WT and the Bible were both bogus.

I still mistook them as sincere but mislead for a few month though (didn't research during that time, I prefered to concentrate on trying to reclaim what could be salvaged of the life I didn't have, still am in the middle of it). Then as I researched materials to help others, the writings of Alan Feuerbacher, Barbara Anderson and Randall Watters made me understand the men on top are really wicked people.

8.What is your greatest personal fear?

None I can think of. Fear is tiresome, and I don't have the health for that. Never was much interested in being afraid even when I was in good health, always felt like it was a waste of time and energy.

9.What is your greatest person source of Joy?

I'm still breathing.

10.If you could wave a magic wand and go back to any year of your life, any age, any place, any time---what would it be and why?

I'd just back go and give the kid I was information about the Watchtower I didn't have access at the time. The rest would have been ok, the only difficulties I had as a kid then as an adult were due to the cult, the rest of my life (school, work) was a breath of fresh air that helped me cope with the abuse. Still spend most of my time in the cult sadly, because I really was convinced by its lies.

I don't have the time to follow everything, but at the moment since I still have people I want to help in the cult, any subject about how to do that interests me a lot. Especially simple ways to show the lies in the publications, the misquotations...
