For myself, I used to blame them, my family the elders, congration members etc. Now, that I am awake, and see the control, I don't fault them at all anymore. They are victims as much as I was. I am now hoping they too can wake up, and I am now in a postition to help them. I'm probably not articulating this well, but I no longer have any anger toward them, I have more pity.

"Sorry, we were wrong." - WHAT IF
by irondork inif your parent(s) / children / siblings / friends apologized after all the years of shunning, can you forgive or has too much damage been done?.
for me it's kind of a double whammy.
got kicked out at age 19 for being gay and disfellowshipped.

If you are talking about the big purge of 1980, it was losing Jesus as our personal mediator. Many in the organization from the GB on down had trouble with that. There were those studying the bible on their own and seeing that the new Watchtower declaration was wrong, etc. It was a witch hunt pure and simple. Crisis of Conscience talks about it. Brother (forget his first name) Merriman interviews, Randy Watters interviews, etc. Many of them went thru it and hearing their stories is best in my opinion.
If you are not talking about the 1980 witch hunt, then I have no idea haha.

Watchtower Door to Door Work...what an incredible waste of time.

they were walking very slowly on a street where there were no people out and about.
i observed them for several minutes.

I have made hand outs of all kinds for my non-JW friends to give the JWs when they come to the door. Basically about the child molestation policy, no need to talk about it, you will just use theocratic warfare, bla bla bla. I have a couple, the more bold and snarky friends, they can't wait to try out their new word...apostate. I told them to take pictures haha.

Are there any songs that remind you of being a jw ?
by man in black in.
this afternoon the song music box dancer came on the radio and i was instantly transported back to 1978 when my best jw friend got married.. this was "their" song ,, they are now divorced and one of them left the religion and is remarried.. another song that makes my skin crawl from a jw standpoint is mambo # 5.. there was an elder from my old hall, j. renfroe who always was telling the young people what music was acceptable for them to listen to.. and this guy was just so opinionated regarding everything.. so one time at a wedding this song comes on and he starts dancing almost uncontrollably.
it was agony to watch, and i ( and many others felt embarrassed for him because of how he was dancing and how his self rightous opinions seemed to be thrown to the wind this evening.. any other examples of music that became tainted from a jw experience ?.

Are Jehovahs Witnesses a Cult?
by mankkeli inthis is an excerpt from the 1994 watchtower, february 15. in the entire article, the watchtower tries to debunk any claim of their cultism.
see how they go about it.. " would it be accurate to refer to jehovahs witnesses as a religious group with radical views and practices that clash with what is accepted as normal social behavior?
are jehovahs witnesses a cult?.

I always thought no, they aren't. Once I woke up, and started to uncover everything, I still thought no, but I wasn't as sure. Once I learned about mind control, and cult mind control, I absolutely say Yes, they are a mind control cult.
I used to see cult as brainwashing, forced, fringe etc. Now I know that mind control isn't forced, it's designed as voluntary. I can see the indoctrination process. I can see the high control of time, thought, language, friends family, etc etc. Yes, they are a cult, and they are not the only large one. There are some bigger than JWs, and what would be seen as main stream.
Location, has nothing to with with mind control. The MIND CONTROL is what defines a cult. Big or small. Isolated or right in the middle of Brooklyn. etc. It's the control that defines it to me.
http://freedomofmind.com/bite/ <-- quick mental control checklist. There is a lot of other information out there, and it's this check, that check check. I mean the witnesses read like a checklist.

Lets say a bible character was reserrected, I did calculations how long it would take to meet one billion people......................................
by andys incould you imagine the chaos, everyone wanting to meet a ressercected bible character, i did some calculations today and this is very interesting what i came up with, lets say there was only 1 billion people on the earth at the time of a bible characters reserrection, i did the math on how long it would take for just one billion people to meet a bible character, if the bible character was meeting people every second for 24 hours a day that would be about 31.7 years to meet one billion people............................................

I used to think about that. All those people I wanted to meet, and everyone else would want to meet. Then I had a thought, that is a "celebrity" reaction. Would we still have those then? Would it matter to us then? I decided it wouldn't, so it wouldn't be an issue. (personal opinion only)

Went to my first meeting today anonymously!
by TimothyT inhi everyone.. jack and i decided we would go to his local kingdom hall this morning.
although i have no interest anymore in being a jw, i think its still nice to have regular bible discussions, etc, which can give you something spiritual to think about each week.
i love it and i think its damn good for you.. today, jack and i walked in, a little nervous, but were greeted and welcomed like friends.

They reference a lot of scriptures, but they don't study them. They use them to tell you what they want you to know. There are a handful of scriptures that are used over and over and over to prove points, win arguments, "prove" they have the truth, but if you dared to study those on your own, you would find they are out of context, or mean something completely different.
Yes JW can argue circles around bible students of other faiths, but it isn't because they are really proving anything, they are just wearing the other person down. You learn how to get and keep control of every converstation and situation, you learn how to keep up the rapid fire till you wear them down. That isn't really winning a bible debate. When the non-JW however, DOES start to get thru, does stand firm and doesn't get swept up in the rapid fire of questions and scriptures, and is able to make a true biblical point, the JW end the convo, time to move on, you abviously aren't interested in hearing the "truth"
They spout bible study, and yeah there is a little bible in there, but what are you really studying? What is it that gets underlined? Where is it that you find the answers to the questions they ask? What do they really use to study? Try having a "bible study" with a JW without using any Watchtower literature. It won't last long.
Actual "blible study" is frowned on. Reading the bible alone leads to spiritual darkness, to satan. Meeting in small groups to study the bible can and has led to DFing. (I personally think thats part of the reason for dropping the bookstudy) The WTS controls the info, controls what the bible says, what they want you to know.
At first I felt the same, so they have faults, they also have all these great things about them. They do really study the bible, they do know the bible etc. I do believe the average JW is really sincere, and I have nothing bad to say about them personally. The Watchtower Society however, is another story. The longer I am awake, the more I look at it all with both eyes open, the more I research what the literature actually says vs just taking their word for it, etc etc etc the more jaded I get. It's like a beautiful peice of fruit that has worms at the pit. I don't care how pretty it looks, how nice it smells, it is rotton, and once I see that, it is no longer a beautiful piece of fruit, it's trash. (personal opinion)

Do you know A "motor mouth" ?

I am a motor mouth. I can talk to anyone, and can pretty much talk about anything.
I find a couple of reasons for it in my case. 1. I really get chatty if I am passionate about a certain subject. 2. I talk when I am nervous. 3. I am one of those that thinks all moments of silence should be filled with talking, if you won't do it, I will. I also, think fast and talk fast at the same time. One of my good friends years ago was exactly the same, we would hold on simultanious converstations. Two totally different topics at the same time. People looked at us like we were crazy haha.
I am not one who always thinks I am right, and I am not one who has to prove that I am right if you don't agree. When I am right, and I know it... I know it. You not believing it, doesn't change anything. I do have a habit of interrupting, but I tell all my friends right off the bat, do NOT let me get away with it. I don't realize I am doing it, and when it is brought to my attention, I can control it.
I am getting better however. Realizing why I talk so much helps me to not talk so much. Am I talking too much? haha
