Requirements for Attending Memorial
by cptkirk inluke 10:27 required to attend: love god with your whole soul, heart, mind--and you love your neighbor as yourself .
required to attend: you have listened to christ (forget verse) where he said you must lose yourself to find him--and in doing so this means that you would not be doing things like competing against other people in the church or looking for status ,or seeking good paying jobs)...etc.
required to attend: oh and the big one, you are not doing what you are doing (going to memorial/meetings etc) because you are just wanting to make sure you live forever--but instead you do these things purely because you just love god and your neighbor so much..... what would global attendance look like?.

the searcher: good points. out of one side of their mouth they are saying do everything we tell you and you might get everlasting life, and out of the other side they are saying just attend this memorial and somehow that will mean something. why would they want all of these people draped all over them attending the memorial who don't even care one way or the other, free wine and chips.
that was the larger point though, nobody is doing everything that they are told, yet they still attend memorials/meetings as if they were.....

ugh, elbear, sounds like you let yourself fall into a trap of sorts.....i was talking about this on a post a week or so ago, where it's like sometimes as a jw, they want to demonize everything, and they go so overboard with that, if you aren't the type of person who can just grab a-hold of reality sometimes and say wait a minute, let's get some frame of reference here and be reasonable, if you don't do that, you can just fall into a never ending loop of craziness that they create. rational thought = your friend.
let me give you an example of what i mean. let's say you are watching a movie that you feel that you should not be watching, and there are curse words every other 10 seconds. you start feeling guilty, and then those words start to cause you a kind of inner-conflict (feel like you should turn it off but you want to watch it) . if you stop, think, rationalize for a moment, you ask yourself: first of all, who made this rule about curse words? who deemed which words curse words? do i really give a shit about some guy sitting somewhere picking words that are bad and words that are good, and now i'm allowing my life to be affected by that in one way or the other? where is the reason in that? is eating cyanide bad? well, what are the effects? death? yea i'd say cyanide is bad then. are curse words bad? what is their effect? .....see what i'm saying? rational thinking = your friend. it will give you stability. it sounds really silly because it sounds so simple, but our emotions are complex, and when we are so emotionally invested, these simple truths can sometimes become elusive.

this is how i would have thought the jw organization worked when i first went in at around age 17, obviously wasn't mulling this stuff during the short time i went around ages 5-8. this really to be really honest, this really broke my heart. i had such high expectations, and i remember a group of us that would hang out together, ranging from age 17-28. and i remember looking at the couple guys who were around that age 26-28, and seeing them like big brothers, and yet, never was much of any substance there. i had these idealistic notions going in, why wouldn't i? getting hammered with "THE TRUTH" constantly. i remember being with them one night and the one girl opens a beer, and she was underage, she looked at me and said something like, 'you are probably thinking we are no different than your worldly friends'. little did she know what i was doing with my worldly friends, but i didn't say anything to her, just chuckled i guess. that girl later (who i really did like), i remember her coming on to me, and it was just stumbling me....because i remember looking at her like she was supposed to be this example....the funny thing is i really did love this girl....but i was so totally confused by all of their behavior that i ended up just going back in a different direction for a while. i remember we went to a movie and she sat next to me, she kept looking at me during the movie and i'm like wtf? does this girl really want me to kiss her now? the whole thing was such a colossal disappointment, can't even put it into words. i think during that time the guys in the group felt a lot of pressure that they needed to act worldly for acceptance, i think they were really self conscious about being seen as different. so they were i think aloof many times just because they were so self conscious, and like i said, i was expecting this brotherhood. and the girls, just being so liberal with physical contact, it all just totally stumbled me.

Oldest humans
by Satanus in"in november 2007, researchers found a cave deposit containing mammal fossils on the mulan mountain of chongzuo city and collected two human tooth fossils and several mammal fossils from it.
in may 2008, prof. jin changzhu found a piece of fragmentary archaic human mandible and a large number of symbiotic mammal fossils in the trial excavation of this cave, which was named zhiren cave.
according to stratigraphic correlation and faunal analysis, 230th-234u disbalance uranides method and isotope dating method, the age of archaic humans in the zhiren cave was 100,000-113,000 years ago.

what exactly is an independent mind, from WT pov?
by cptkirk inis this just basically another way to say, we dislike the fact that we aren't able to control you as easily as we would like to?
or is there actually some precept which reflects this notion somewhere?
obviously from their pov if you say that you believe in the trinity, that is independent from their pov, but they would never even get to that because you would already be df'ed for apostasy.

My thoughts and observations re: the Memorial
by 144001 inwhile sitting through my annual visit to a kingdom hall tonight, i had the following thoughts/observations:.
1. the speaker appealed to the kids: "how many here are 15 years of age or younger?
" he then went on to tell us how exciting it would be to "lie down" with lions that eat straw instead of flesh, and further discussed jw kids napping with leopards, bears, and cattle.

that is respectable.....something that i could not do myself. maybe if my father wasn't an elder with abusive tendencies , may have been different. my father is very good at making his war everyone else's war, kind of sad when you think about it, considering he went to war for this country, and yet doesn't understand independence, and fighting your own wars one on one. that is the WTs loss though, as they will find in the end, they have been used as a tool for people's personal warfare. but alas, those people were directly selected by god, so they would never do anything like that, right?
