So what caused you to have doubts in the first place?
by nicolaou ini had no doubts at all about the 'truth' untill a friend of mine in the cong' began falling away.
in trying to help him i had to ask questions and do research and that of course cracked the doors of my mind open for the first time in over thirty years.. years ago, when jwd allowed members to have signatures, i used the following quote from voltaire as mine.
i still love it.. doubt is uncomfortable, certainty is ridiculous..

Very similar for me, but it was 50 years. My parents were converted when I was 4 and I never questioned whether it was the truth or not. Then my elder husband started researching the origins of the organization, which led to doctrinal examinations. He shared with me, and I set out to prove him wrong, and couldn't do it. After a few years of hell, I finally capitulated. So glad I did, and we started our fade in 1995.
Too many little points that made a big problem...............14-15 years ago, so I don't recall exact doctrinal issues. Last days signs (non signs) was a biggie though, and the faithful slave doctrine.

I had the same thoughts.
Also, watching CNN reports on the raid on the polygamy compound, some of the things they are saying about mind control and cults, must get some of them to think.................but maybe not. Steve Hassan was on a couple of programs last night, talking about cult mind control. I laughed out loud, at the things he said, wondering if it would have impacted me 13 or 14 years ago. Too similar.

Mulan
Yep, World Without End. Sorry to see it end. I finished it last month and really loved it. Now I'm starting Pillars of the Earth, about the ancestors of those people. I read it about 16 years ago, but can't remember much. It will be like a new book. I actually can't remember if I read the whole thing, maybe just 200 pages or so.

I got gas last Thursday and paid $3.29, but had a store card that gave me 15 cents a gallon off.............it keeps track of your grocery spending, and gives you gasoline credit once a month at their gas kiosk.
Most stations it's over $3.50 a gallon now. Diesel is $4.19.

I go to Gretchen Wilson's house for July 4th BBQ's.
My son hangs out with Big Kenny's ( of Big and Rich ) son, Lincoln.
Lynyrd Skynyrd are personal friends.
Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne is my kids' Uncle Zakk.
Kid Rock is Bobby.
I think you aged me out. I know who Kid Rock is, and Lynyrd Skynrd and Ozzie. The others elude me, unless Gretchen Wilson is one of the Wilsons in "Heart".
My Dad knew lots of celebrities, but the only one he brought home to meet the family was a guy whose name I can't remember at the moment. He was in a TV show in the 50's about a photographer, who lived with his sister and her son. She was Rosemary de Camp. Anyone know who I'm talking about? His name was Bob, Robert more correctly. He and Dad were friends in the health industry. Bob was a real health fanatic. (Looked it up..........Bob Cummings..........I'll bet very few here know who the heck he was)

I am friends with several famous people. Who do you want to hear about?
tell us, tell us
I saw Ray Romano and Brad Garrett yesterday. I did a thread on it this morning. They are in town for a show, and were at the casino where we were. Not best friends though.
Closest I came to being friends with a celebrity was Mark Victor Hansen, co author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. We worked with the same company and he was at all of our events, and very available to talk anytime. I had breakfast with him in Hawaii, and had my picture taken with him too at another event in Phoenix. About 3 years later, I saw him at the Las Vegas airport and yelled to him, and he called to me by name. Great guy.

Athiests please answer these questions
by Mrs Smith ini'm not trying to pick a fight i was just sitting at my desk pondering on some threads on jwd and i would very much like this question answered.. why is it that athiest often (not always) direct their argument for athiesism towards christians?
why not direct your argument towards buddists or muslims or even new-agers?
i mean they also believe in a higher power so why is it that only christains seem to get knocked?

I have some Buddhist friends and they don't believe in god the way Christians do. Most of them don't believe in god at all. A Vietnamese Buddhist I know, does believe in god.
I don't try to convince them because I don't care if they believe in god or not. Let people believe what they want to believe.
Another thing, the Buddhists I know either don't live in this country, or they are not people I discuss religion with at all. The Vietnamese girl is the girl who does my nails. So, it's who I talk to.................most are atheists or Christians, or undecided.
