maybe their meeting time changed, and is no longer in the morning, but say 2:00

Speaking of fading...
by Jim_TX ini just read another posting about a fella fading, and it brought to mind the following.. on the weekends, i go to a local coffee shop in the am for coffee and a little breakfast taco.
i usually sit at the counter, where i also read my electronics-related magazines and i also write thoughts in a gridded-paper notebook.
i immediately pegged them as jws - it was too easy.

Saturday, June 14, Dallas, TX
by cruzanheart inwell, it's not exactly on the date but the first opportunity thereafter!.
it's been a hell of a ride.
we were both regular pioneers when we met and we weathered the storms of getting married (both sets of parents did their best to keep it from happening), chris leaving the borg, me staying in for another 15 years and two kids, his family disowning him, my father's suicide .

Not Born-in, Not converted as adult. The In-Betweens
by Lady Lee ini think some of us get lost somewhere in the middle.. my kids knew nothing else but the jw lifestyle.
they could only guess what holidays were like.. my jw husband converted when he was 20 an adult...a young adult but still an adult.
he wasn't influenced by his parents.

I was 4 when my parents, and extended family, all became JW's. I do remember birthdays and a couple of Christmases, and I missed them, but our family was very close with my grandparents, aunts and cousins, so we never felt deprived. We always got gifts from time to time, and in the 50's, they still remembered our birthdays, not with gifts, but enough recognition to make us feel special that day.
When I was in school and couldn't go to a birthday party, I would always come home from school on those days, and a gift was on my bed, even if it was just a new color book and crayons..............so Mom made it nice for me so I wasn't so disappointed.
I do remember being terribly relieved that I didn't have to go "trigger treating". I hated that.............painfully shy and it was an ordeal for me. I got over the shyness and am quite an extrovert now, hard to believe I was ever like that, but I remember it very well.
We always went to grandma and grandpa's for Thanksgiving until they died (grandma in 1974..........grandpa in 1961) because we all had the day off and turkeys were cheap..........that was the excuse. We got together for a big turkey dinner on Christmas too, (no presents) and grandma continued to make her fudge, divinity and fruitcakes that time of year. We also had a family gathering every New Year's Eve because that was grandma and grandpa's wedding anniversary, and we stayed up until Midnight too. Even after he died, we still had the family party, with lots of good food, and games. Those are good memories.
Families don't have to quit having "events" just because the holidays were forbidden.

What is the one thing you will never give up no matter how hard times get?
by snarf inwith the talk of everyone trying to cut back and reevaluate their necessities due to the rising cost of products from gas to food, what is the one thing that will never go in your life...a "luxury"item that has wound itself so deeply in your soul you would be incomplete without it?.
my item is a daily frapuccino, those little devils are so delish that i can't even think of going a day without.

Yes, there is one brand, (I saw it on vacation, don't remember the name,) that advertises still a 1/2 gallon, it was $6.99 and all the other brands were under $5.00.
They aren't under $5 here................$6.99..........the lowest I saw was $5.99. I still buy it. I think the store brands might still be 1/2 gallons, but I like the "gourmet" brands.

Need suggestions... how do I respond to my elders?
by Robert7 inso our fade is not going so well.
too many people have been asking about us, and therefore giving us attention.
we've had no choice but tell select few friends that we're discouraged, and one that we're having a hard time believing the fds in general.

Wow, Gary...........those are all really good suggestions. Good job.

What makes someone so sure...
by loosie inthat a surpreme being is gonna help us?.
on another thread that i started i asked what is wrong with the new age ideas.
some people seem so afraid of it.. one poster mentioned that new age stuff is incorrect because jesus is for sure gonna come take us away from this world.. now i am opened minded.

Why are they so quick to believe the Bible is the inspired word of god, but insist the Koran is nothing? (not promoting the Koran.............just an observation)

One of the authors, Mark Victor Hansen, used to work with me for the same company...............he did motivational speeches, and also sales along with the rest of us. He is a great guy, so positive...........he taught me to be a goal setter, and make outrageous goals...........and to dream big (he wrote that in a card he gave me). I met him after we left the JW's.
I have several of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books, autographed of course.

To ex-JW's who became real "Christians"
by startingover ini have a question.. what is your belief now regarding hell?
a place of torment?
the grave?
-
Mulan
I believe it is a fictional place, dreamed up to frighten people into believing..............whatever.
Ridiculous! I can't believe any of you actually believe it's real.

There were many with special diets. I remember one who would eat nothing from the cabbage family (broccoli, brussells sprouts, cauliflower), no aluminum foil or aluminum pans for cooking.
Another required yogurt, but it had to be the kind from the health food store..............nothing from the grocery store.
Lots of them had no sugar in anything requirements.
One CO wife, rarely showed up for field service because of her health, but she never missed lunch. Later, when they left the circuit work, because of her poor health, she got a full time job. Who can figure?
