  Please correct me if I am wrong (and I hope I am). Some of the allegations contained in these "secret" files is not true, but if dispensed improperly, could damage reputations and cause great harm to innocent people. I wonder if the federal Privacy Act(s) would make it possible for us to order those files destroyed or, at least, given to the person they malign.

  They surely have a file about me, and I did nothing wrong, at least according to the conventional meaning of morality.

  Now I'm getting angry.

  You are happy, Dave. You're a sweetie, you do have friends and people who care. You don't realize how happy you are. I've been in your place, taking my good life for granted. Then, something happens to put things in chaos, and I realize how lucky I've been in many ways (making my own luck much of the time).

  For example, two years ago, my granddaughter, only 15 at the time, was hiding out with her boyfriend (a bad guy, to say the least). I had to hire a private detective to find her. Then I took out a huge loan to send her to a residential treatment facility. Now she's back home, much happier, and a senior in high school. I still have this huge debt, but am grateful that she is okay, so happy that she can function normally and have a mostly normal senior year and college in front of her.

  Happiness stems from gratitude. All of us on this board have our lives back to do with as we wish. Oh, Dave, you are so happy!

  heading to the apostafest this weekend, we have made a deal with our friends to look after our kids.

  given that they already have 3 children, adding 3 more could be stressful so we thought we would ask my parents if they wanted to take one overnight.

  This is indeed extremely sad. Ironically, the JW's are always lamenting the loss of "natural affection" among family members. What hypocrites!

  IMHO, I think your children should be able to see your parents, but with supervision only. Normally, of course, it is beneficial for children to have a relationship with their grandparents. However, as someone else pointed out and as ex-nj-jw could tell you, they'll try very hard to mess up your kids' minds.

  In any case, you two should set the parameters and be in control, not allowing anyone else to manipulate or set the rules.

  What Honesty said is also right on!

  The dear brother (he really was dear, now deceased) who studied with me told me an illustration of water dripping on a rock. If the water doesn't stop, it finally leaves an impression. I think the conclusion I was supposed to reach was that I should stay with the "truth" and keep "serving" Jehovah.

  After I left, I read The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and found that same illustration in that book. The book was written first.

  My former co-workers have invited me to their party. They're going to be escaped prisoners, so I'm going to be a bounty hunter. My costume consists of a black western shirt with sequins and fringe, black jeans, black cowboy/cowperson hat with a silver band, accessorized with handcuffs, a gun and holster, and lotsa cash when I bring in the bad girls.

  What am I doing wrong?

  i can't make enough money to pay my bills, and i attend school full-time 17 hours and work part-time at jamba juice 15 hours per week.

  this is only giving me $375.

  thats just enough to cover rent.

  Maybe you need to take fewer classes and work more hours, at least until you find a job with higher pay. Where in the heck can you find a place to rent for $375.00? I might move there.

  i have a couple who have been my friends for years, i studied with them and they became witnoids.

  he is now and ms and was conducting a book study in a home last night.

  It has been many years since I attended a dub meeting of any kind except a funeral or two. Lucky me!

  When my granddaughter was about 9-10 years old, she visited her grandpa, my ex. My daughter ordered him not to take her to the KH. So he took her to the book study, which was in a private home. My daughter did not say anything to her dad about his getting my granddaughter to a dub meeting on a technicality. She merely asked the dear child what she thought of the meeting. The wise little girl's two-word answer was, "They're insane!"

  They don't even care whether you actually believe in their precious heirarchy, that they are the "only" channel of "truth"????? The criteria used for getting you in seem to be quite different from those of getting you thrown out.

  No matter what the religion, the "end is near" argument is completely irrelevant. You believe in it, or you don't. Period. You are seeking a relationship with God and believe participation in religious services and the Christian (or Jewish or Muslim, or whatever) life ill enhance it, or you don't.

  They are just trying to scare you just like preachers of old scared us with fear of hell fire.

  So glad they didn't scare you or intimidate you,
