I got a call from an elder, he wants to come visit tomorrow.........
by fifi40 inso what to do?????.
he was a family friend for years.....i saw him in the supermarket a few months back and he stopped and chatted to me for a while.....he rang me today to see if he can call in the morning for a cuppa......he says he isnt coming to preach...... he is one of those likeable people..........but has had a heart attack shortly after i saw him in the supermarket......he says he is okay now.. so i cant really see the point...........he is older; in his 70's.......and i think whatever we talk about i dont want to be responsible for putting his health at risk by opposing his beliefs.. am i missing an opportunity or should i leave well alone?.

Only a dub would invite himself to your place instead of inviting you over to his/hers for a cuppa. Then only a dub would need to reassure you that he/she didn't intend to "preach." If it's your house, you set the tone and choose the subject for conversation.

Famous JW's
by jwfacts ini have updated my page on famous jws.
it is by far the most viewed part of my site.
it seems michelle rod, and michael jackson are far more popular searches than 1914 or jehovah.. i still need to add some quotes that identify each individual as a jw, but i thought you may enjoy the list.

Harry Truman? Never heard of that one.
Dwight Eisenhower was reared as a JW. Do you have the two confused?

Poor Excuse for an Apostate
by Mum inwhen i tell anyone i am considered an apostate, they usually think i'm joking and fall over laughing.
after thinking about it, i can understand why.
my lifestyle would prompt a farmyard chicken to take up another interest.

When I tell anyone I am considered an apostate, they usually think I'm joking and fall over laughing. After thinking about it, I can understand why. My lifestyle would prompt a farmyard chicken to take up another interest. Here's why I appear so non-apostate:
I usually eat simple food: little meat (soyburgers, soy dogs, soy sausages, beans, lentils, split peas, fresh veggies)
I wear simple clothing; i.e., I have an assortment of tops, slacks and jackets I can mix and match.
I walk to work. A car is optional for me. Sometimes I have a car and sometimes I don't. Currently, I own the most expensive car I ever had. I bought it from a co-worker for $5,000, and my payments are less than $100/month. I usually get a car at a state surplus auction and pay cash.
I have a simple, modest home, about 860 square feet. I took out a lot of furniture and like the "wide open spaces" left behind. One room is empty. I do have 2 bathrooms so I can have a housemate if I need to supplement my income. In the meantime, the spare room and bath are available to apostates who would like to vacation in Nevada.
I drink very moderately. On special occasions, I might have a couple of drinks.
I don't smoke tobacco products or anything else. However, if I had been at that Toronto apostafest, I would have taken a few puffs of those grape cigars with no impact to my conscience.
I am not sexually active. At my age, along with other factors, this is not likely to change.
On the other side of the apostate question, I do have the following apostate activities and/or characteristics:
Gambling (not to the point where I can't pay my bills, just a few dollars here and there unless I have a windfall, then a percentage of that)
Thinking for myself to the point of disagreeing with much Watchtower policy and doctrine because it hurts people.
Giving love and support to people who disagree with Watchtower policy and doctrine (or those who do agree for that matter, but that's not the apostate part)
Choosing my own friends.
Believing that my brain is probably as large as most men's.
Overindulgence in sweets at times (though no more than when I was a JW in good standing).
How about you? Are you living the debauched, decadent lifestyle that would befit an apostate?
Regards,
SandraC, a poor excuse for sure

Dialysis help...
by babygirl75 inhey everybody..it's been a while since i've had a chance to post.
hope all is okay.... some of you may or may not remember from my earlier post that i had breast cancer last year and went through chemo.
well, my kidneys have been slowly failing since i was 17 and they got worse a few months after i had my son.

Recently I worked in a dialysis clinic. The patients had to come in 3 times a week for 4 hours each time, making it, in my view, practically a part-time job. This was all new to me. There were dietary restrictions which I can't recall right now, mostly concerning potassium intake. Patients brought blankets and books so they could rest or keep their minds busy while awake. They would also bring water and snacks. It was like packing for a weekend trip getting ready for dialysis.
My take was that dialysis was very tiring, as the patients looked spent afterwards. Dialysis is also a great equalizer. The mighty and the lowly were all together in one place facing the same issues, as dialysis clinics are few.
I am not qualified to give you any insight from a medical perspective. You might already know what I wrote above. In any case, best wishes with whatever choice you make.

I'm not racist but.....
by Burger Time insavemysoul made a good point that i have heard often.
semi/full blow racist remarks are usually started off with "i'm not racist but..." then add some blanket statement afterwards.
so is racism now the new gay?

Mum
Certain groups have always been targeted until the last several years. If you want to tell a racist joke now, substitute the word "blonde" for the group which would otherwise have been derided, and all is well.
There are groups which can be derided still, apparently with no serious consequences. Besides blondes, they include hillbillies/"rednecks" (yours truly here), Catholics, perhaps Arabs, and probably Jehovah's Witnesses.

Remember: Every Kingdom Hall Has Dynamite Within
by metatron inallow me to point out that, per the society's regulations, every kingdom hall has a pile of metaphorical dynamite within.
every kingdom hall.
is required to keep judicial files - often going back decades - locked in the kingdom hall.

Mum
Please correct me if I am wrong (and I hope I am). Some of the allegations contained in these "secret" files is not true, but if dispensed improperly, could damage reputations and cause great harm to innocent people. I wonder if the federal Privacy Act(s) would make it possible for us to order those files destroyed or, at least, given to the person they malign.
They surely have a file about me, and I did nothing wrong, at least according to the conventional meaning of morality.
Now I'm getting angry.
