not that i was any better(lol - but as i sat back and thought about the time i spent there, and the things i saw i feel disgusted.. i could literally write a thousand stories about the discrimination, favortism and all out dishonest that took place but i doubt anyone would actually care.
the one thing however that really sticks out in my mind is when i was in a nice room with my roommate that he kind of inherited after his previous roommate left.
it actually had a bathroom and we both had space for real beds(not those dang trundle beds like we had in standish).. .
You are so rigfht, Sab. I knew many JW's with potential to do great things. We've all heard the stories about giving up scholarships to college and giving up great careers to pioneer.
It takes a personal crisis for most of us to look at the lie we're living and admit we've been doing it all wrong and have the courage to do something about it.
a few days ago, there was renewed interest in a 12-year-old thread which, among other points, argued the watchtower's days were numbered.
several current posters expressed the view that the wts has not been impacted by any "critical mass" and that it speaks to the immunity of the watchtower to any such "critical mass" event.
i thought the topic warranted a renewal for wider consideration - with the "benefit" of "12-years" hindsight - so have duplicated one of my responses: .
Thanks to the internet and a more open-minded, less religious philosophy among more and more people, as well as better educational opportunity and better nutrition for many, the Watchtower way does not have the appeal that it once did for the masses.
Probably the most persecuted religion in history, Judaism, is no longer threatened so much by persecution as by assimilation. Jews are marrying Gentiles at an unprecedent rate.
The times, they are a changin'. - Bob Dylan
just got back from field service.
white guy driving a delivery truck waived at my partner and i, rolled down the window and yelled this.
he meant no harm, just a jovial fellow working on a saturday.
Mormons only wear white shirts . . .
stillin: They wear pants, shoes and socks, usually a tie, probably underwear and a bicycle helmet as well.
Thanks for the belly laugh on a Sunday.

Finkelstein is right. I had a child when I was a JW. She wanted to celebrate Christmas, have birthday parties, and be normal. She expressed her wishes, and we told her why it was "wrong."
Children are treated very badly at meetings. They are expected to sit perfectly still for two hours at a time and are often beaten, pinched, or otherwise abused if they don't. I thank God that my granddaughter and great granddaughter have not had to suffer this way.
it's been a while since we heard about their engagement.
did they break it off?
did they get married?.
Is this a serious inquiry? Are those two really engaged?
Only JW men can have so many women better than they are. Poor JW women! This poor woman is in for a life of gagging disappointment.
that's how i feel when i see these crazy new wt study articles and the inane reasoning contained therein, and the indoctrination machines of meetings run by all those little hardened human cogs and the unending stream of propaganda we're pitched up against.
.. you could spend all your time working through those wt articles (see cedar's post on the latest 'new light') and refuting the stupidity, and yet most witnesses aren't even concerned with changes to the fds or 144 000 because like all of humanity they're too busy trying to scratch a living as it is.
such airy doctrine changes don't have any effect on their day to day lives and is thus irrelevant.
After exiting the WT, the first apostate book I read was by Barbara Grizzuti (Grizutti?) Harrison entitled, Visions of Glory: A History and a Memory of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Barbara was at Bethel when she realized TTATT. She had a personal interview with N. H. Knorr before exiting. At the end of the interview, he said to her something like, "You were smart, weren't you?" I think she did well in school, and that was the reason for his question. She replied in the affirmative. He concluded and said, "That's your problem."
I notice that's the "problem" with a lot of people on this board. You are one of them, Julia. Congratulations on reactivating your brain cells and having the unmitigated gall to think for yourself!

Are all of you coming to the Apostafest in Vegas from May 15 through 22? I'm really looking forward to it. We can create our own "Margaritaville."
this is in response to jim tx's comment on another thread.
the wtbts claims that the organizers of events such as a congregation picnic or a party are responsible for what the attendees do after the event has ended.
example: if several people meet and engage in 'fornication' afterwards, the organizer is culpable.
Sure, you're allowed to get together with the brothers and sisters. However, if anyone has a good time, he or she is setting himself/herself up to be "marked," "reproved," "disfellowshipped," or some other form of being regarded with suspicion.
Most of us adults accept responsibility for our own behavior because we don't have masters to explain to us what is proper and improper. If you're all grown up, you should know how to behave yourself and not accept being talked down to because you had an evening of relaxation and/or amusement. Life's too short for this nonsense.
As Sophia Loren used to say, "Wear my perfume and let them talk." If you have someone talking disapprovingly about your behavior, I envy you.
