So do celebrity dubs have Bible studies only with other celebs? My nieces would consent in a heartbeat to study anything with Prince!

I'm so sorry, Diana. Your grandma sounds a lot like mine. We can console ourselves somewhat by remembering how lucky we were to have them with us for so long. A lot of people lose grandparents in childhood.
With sympathy,

When You Were A Little Kid, What Did Your Mother Say To Get You To Eat Your Vegetables?
by LoisLane looking for Superman ini hated peas.
my mom would say, "the kids in china are starving.
eat your peas.

You make me feel really weird, Lois. I loved my vegetables, but I couldn't stand meat. I could eat pork and fish, but chicken and beef did not taste good at all to me. Once when I was in the hospital, I was forced to eat the meat on my plate by a hospital employee. I threw it up. She left me alone after that.
Once, again when in the hospital, we had brussels sprouts. I liked them, but none of the other kids did. So about 8 kids dumped their brussels sprouts on my plate. We all got yelled at.

When You Were A Little Kid And Your Dad Said Prayer, Did He Ever Say Anything Strange?
by LoisLane looking for Superman inmy dad used to pray for the witnesses behind the iron curtain.
i couldn't figure out why were they caught behind this heavy curtain.
couldn't they just find a door and leave?.

That's funny, Lois! I was always afraid to ask questions about things I didn't understand for fear of being laughed at.
Your story reminds me of something that happened in my pre-JW life at my grandpa's church in the woods of Tennessee. Both of my grandfathers were country preachers. I lived with my maternal grandparents and was taken to church often. My sister would come and spend a few weeks with us from time to time. My sister was not ever taken to church except when she was with us.
On one of my sister's visits, when we were both preschoolers (she was 3 and I was 5), my grandmother was preparing us for Sunday School. She told us that if we were called on to say a Bible verse, the shortest and easiest to remember would be "Jesus wept."
So Sunday came and we were taken to church. Our church was a shack in the woods and did not have amenities such as Sunday School rooms. So we split up into groups by age, and each group occupied a pew or two. My sister's group was across the aisle from my group. My grandmother was my Suncay School teacher that day.
Each of the little kids was called upon to recite a Bible verse, as we called them. When my sister's turn came, she, of course, said, "Jesus wept." After she said it, she stood up in the pew and yelled across the room at my grandmother, "Hey, Mamaw, didn't Jesus ever mop!"
The whole church exploded with laughter.

Gifts for C.O.'s and D.O.'s
by sosoconfused indoes anyone else find it funny that the circuit overseers and district overseers go to a new congregation every week, have all their bills paid and then for some odd reason the elders always find a way to give them extra money.
on top of that there are atleast 10 families in every hall that give them a green handshake.
then the people who give them expensive gifts (i am ashamed to say i participated in this) like watches etc... yet these guys still act like they are giving up so much.... .

Once when I was a dub, my mom commented about how the JW's wouldn't celebrate birthdays or anything that could be construed as special attention or "creature worship" for anyone. BUT, she said, when that Circuit Overseer comes around, they all bring out their best food and hospitality and treat him like a king.
Years later, she became a JW herself. Go figure.

Article on Religious fundamentalism may be a mental illnes
by sherry11 inthe table turned.
found this article in regard to religious fundamentalism may be a mental illness which can be cured.. "someone who has for example become radicalised to a cult ideology we might stop seeing that as a personal choice that they have chosen as a result of pure free will and may start treating it as some kind of mental disturbance.".

So almost all of my relatives and neighbors I grew up with were mentally ill? My grandmother was one of the most sane people I ever met, but she was uneducated and never exposed to the larger world.
Apostates are "mentally diseased" too, ya know.

Due to Ongoing Concern about Dwindling Meeting Attendances, IS THE BOOK STUDY ARRANGEMENT GOING TO BE RE-INSTATED NEXT YEAR?
by steve2 ini have some family and friends still in the organization.
i don't actively seek updates - my lovely contacts provide me with them unsolicited.
so far the updates have been reliable and confirmed sooner or later by subsequent developments.

Do they still meet at the book study sites before going out in service, or does everyone report to the KH before service now?

Are your emotions your own?
by Stauros inhave you ever wondered, why do i feel this way?
are the feelings we have our own or are they being influenced by satan?.
-
Mum
Emotions don't make sense. I love Elvis, and my friend loathes him. We have all been "domesticated" to react in certain ways to certain stimuli. We all have variations in body chemistry that makes us react differently to things. I don't see how anyone outside yourself could influence your emotions. If that were possible, I wouldn't care about certain people who do not merit my concern because of their attitude and behavior.
Maybe you need professional counseling. As far as "making sense," very little in life does.
