  Why are they still going door to door?

  hey all, long time no see!.

  a friend posted the anthony morris videos on facebook today, and the ensuing conversation got me wondering: why are the jws still going door-to-door in the developed world?.

  it's clearly useless as an evangelizing tactic; the wt have recognized that for 20 years, with their "go where the people are" spiel, but they also insist that it's still necessary.. .

  They sell a lot more books and trash literature by going door to door. It's harder not to buy something when the salesperson is with you face-to-face.

  Husband addressed himself as "Used to be a JW"

  when asked about his religion & belief, he would tell people that his family are jws, and he used to be one.

  but still he is very much against christmas and birthdays.

  he seems to have no issue with new year.

  I'm sure you're familiar with the term "cognitive dissonance." It's a natural phase in the process of leaving a cult. Give him some time. It took me two years (which I think is typical) to deprogram myself. See if you can get thim to read Dr. Wayne Dyer's Your Erroneous Zones and some other self-hep books. He needs to learn to think ratioinally instead of emotionally.

  What do DO's do when not visiting assemblies?

  let's say they attend a dozen circuit assemblies.

  that's only 12 weeks they spend with a congregation.

  what about the rest of the year?

  my heart aches because of the wall i have had to build around myself.

  this ache is easier to handle than the ache i would suffer if i ever went through the situation again.

  i just can't do it.

  Don't ever give up on anybody. They're suffering, too, I'm sure. If they ever realize that they are behaving in a way that is "without natural affection," they might wake up. Meanwhile, you need to build a happy and fulfilling life. Find what you love to do and enjoy doing it.

  Going Beyond the Things Written.

  i went to the meeting today.

  i go probably once a month for various reasons i have alluded to here.. .

  i don't know what the title of the talk was, since i pulled my usual come in 5 minutes late, muster a fake "i'm mildly embarrassed" look on my face and slip in the back row move, but the crux of it was to not go 'beyond the things written'.. .

  They are ridiculous! They must want to show the pope what REAL ecclesiastical authority is. The worst thing you can do to a narcissist (from the narcissist's point of view) is to laugh at him/them.   Is GOD really going to kill "apostates" from the Watchtower??

  i was thinking about this lately.

  also there was a comment made by an elder recently, saying that jehovah(tm) would kill elders who apostasized by not waiting for the "slave" to get things right.

  how would you approach with an uber-dub?.

  JW's at my inlaw's door yesterday

  here in the northeast it is freezing.

  a father and son team brought over the outside garbage cans from the end of the driveway and offered to salt my inlaws' driveway.

  my f-i-l was very impressed and said they're very nice people.

  What Blondie said. When I read this, the question came to my mind of whether those "nice" JW's would have done such a kind deed for one of their own. I was reprimanded more than once by my then elder husband for helping people when it was not for an ulterior motive.

  "in minnesota, a man said to his visitors: "i saw you coming, so i went to get this book.

  " he held up a bible teach book and said that when he was in prison, he stole the book.

  when asked if he had read it, he replied that he was going to read it on the weekend while he was fishing.

  Is this story from the Yearbook? It's weird. It would seem that he would have had enough time in prison to read it. It's heartening to know that the JW's have a place for criminals to go to for pie in the sky. I wish all JW children could be rescued, however.

  The yuk factor and others

  will you share with me an interesting discussion on what morals we all may have in common?

  my recent reading has resulted in a fundamental shift in my worldview.

  it feels like my house of cards have reshuffled themselves yet again, and everything i see, hear and smell is put in a new context.

  It takes a while to get your moral priorities in order after leaving the JW's behind. Wrapping a Christmas gift or a birthday gift, even giving such a gift -- all are "wrong" to JW's. That is batsh*t crazy! Punishing a child for eating a cupcake at a school birthday or holiday party is bizarre beyond belief! I feel so sad for children who grow up this way, not understanding what really is hurtful and harmful and what is not. I now see all JW's a child abusers, unwitting or not. These same children are taught to be gleeful that 99.99% of the world's population is going to become bird food! Sick! The biggest "yuk" factor, of course, is that they protect pedophiles.

  JW's have a distorted view of sexual immorality as well. It no longer causes even a blip on my radar screen if someone is gay or cohabitating with a member of the opposite sex. JW's will protect a child molestor but disfellowship a person for having sex ONE TIME!

  The way JW's spy on one another and turn one another in to the elders is now a worse sin, in my view, that whatever the person may have done to get turned in - except when someone hurt someone else (e.g., child molestation).

  Discouraging education and human development is one of the greatest sins of the Watchtower.

  I need to stop thinking about all this!
