The End of Circuit Overseers
by wisdomfrombelow ini am sure that the term "circuit overseer" will be gone soon.
they seem to be changing vocabulary and the presiding overseer is now the "coordinator of the body of elders" and all "district overseers" will be gone in a few months.
they used to be called "circuit servants" but they will never re-hash an old term so they will make a new term.

I believe the Church of Christ, like the JW's, considers itself the only "true" church. That mentality needs to go. Give yourself time to explore and learn before you commit to a particular denomination.

What if I am a disfellowshipped public school teacher?
by bsand20 incould a parent put in a complaint to the school district and request that their child be transferred out of my classroom because i am exjw?
if they give me the jw school brochure (do they still do that?
sorry its been 16years since i've been out) can i just tell them i'm familiar with their teachings or should i just pretend i'm new to their teachings?....i'm a freshman in college so i have still a long ways before this situation is presented, however i"m trying to get prepared for it.

Congratulations on choosing higher education and becoming a teacher! The advice you're received so far is excellent. It will be great for those JW kids to have a teacher who understands them and has compassion for them. Let your students know you're there for them if they need someone to talk to. Best wishes for a great future!

They don't even see their arrogance! In my experience, ignorance and arrogance go hand in hand. What a pathetic excuse for a human being, to say nothing of what a poor excuse for a "Christian"

Brotherhood or sisterhood that is the question.
by sparrowdown inin a cong of about 70 publishers only about 50 regularly attend.. out of those 50 the majority are women, some single but a fair few whose husbands don't come anymore.. the only men that do attend are the elders, ms and a couple who tag along with their wives.. so in total there are probably only about 15 males in attendance at best.. we have had several local needs over the recent past encouraging sisters to turn over their male return visits.
to bros, and for bros that go in fs to ask to speak to the man of the house (but i am sure that is the same everywhere).
my question is are men more likely to wake up first and if so what could be the reason for this?.

I have been in other churches besides the JW's. In all of them, there are more women than men. The oppression of women might make them turn to religion. Women feel more responsible for their children's spiritual life as well. I remember someone who had lived in Latin America describing a scene of women going to church while the men watched. I don't know if this phenomenon exists in Buddhism, Hinduism, or other religions which predominate in other parts of the world.

Why are they still going door to door?
by Euphemism inhey all, long time no see!.
a friend posted the anthony morris videos on facebook today, and the ensuing conversation got me wondering: why are the jws still going door-to-door in the developed world?.
it's clearly useless as an evangelizing tactic; the wt have recognized that for 20 years, with their "go where the people are" spiel, but they also insist that it's still necessary.. .

They sell a lot more books and trash literature by going door to door. It's harder not to buy something when the salesperson is with you face-to-face.

Husband addressed himself as "Used to be a JW"
by UBM101 inwhen asked about his religion & belief, he would tell people that his family are jws, and he used to be one.
but still he is very much against christmas and birthdays.
he seems to have no issue with new year.

I'm sure you're familiar with the term "cognitive dissonance." It's a natural phase in the process of leaving a cult. Give him some time. It took me two years (which I think is typical) to deprogram myself. See if you can get thim to read Dr. Wayne Dyer's Your Erroneous Zones and some other self-hep books. He needs to learn to think ratioinally instead of emotionally.
Best wishes!
