  Governing Body Teaching Islamic Hatred of Women

  I am a woman, and I can tell you from experience that women are in no way inferior to men, except that we have less upper body strength. Men have women at desks in their front offices to protect them (the men) from whomever and whatever the men don't want to deal with. Women can deal with it all because we have no other choice. Women have to have skills, knowledge, ability, and determination to do their jobs of protecting men from having to be competent as typists, composers, telephone answerers, child caregivers, and a host of other duties that take more strength and brainpower than that of the person (usually a man or men) who boss(es) them around.

  My daughter once told me that I should be earning at least $80,000 a year (in the '90's) when I was working as a doctors' office manager. If I had been a man, I'm sure I would have demanded at least that amount.

  I'm not saying women are all good and all brilliant, or that men are all bad or all stupid. But I have observed that, generally speaking, much more is expected of women, while she is paid less.

  I am grateful for the women in my life who have been there for me - and some men, too.

  Would you go to church?

  i have an unspoken rule that if someone ever invites me to a church - that i haven't been to before - i will go.

  even though i'm an atheist i'm still interested in the experiance.

  just like i'm not into basketball but i would like to go to a game sometime to feel the energy of the crowd.. growing up as a jw i've never set foot in another church.

  Both of my grandfathers were country preachers of the Holiness/Pentecostal faith. I lived with my maternal grandparents until I was in 6th grade, and my parents lived in another state, so I went to church regularly. I was terrified in church because it seemed to me that my quiet, gentle grandparents, who rarely spoke, went crazy! The people "shouted," which meant they got up and jumped around in a kind of trance while shouting things like "Praise the Lord" and Hallelujah!" These were simple folk, poor Appalachian ("hillbilly") farmers who lived on the edge of ruin, plowed with mules, and had great skill with tools.

  My parents, both offspring of preachers, were party animals, and not religious at all. My dad's boss was a JW and started a "study" with my parents when I was 9 years old. When I was 15, I started "publishing." I was the only JW in the entire family, extended family included. I loved being "different," and felt self-righteous and superior. Yes, I was SO stupid! I left the JW's at age 32, young enough to start over.

  My second husband and I joined the Episcopal Church. He had graduated from a prestigious Episcopal college. One of his colleagues at work invited us to the church.

  Personally, I've had enough of religion. Nevertheless, I admit that I feel better after attending church, on the rare occasions I choose to go.

  I have taken my granddaughter to church, and will take my great granddaughter as well. As far as I'm concerned, exposure to religious people and religious beliefs constitute part of one's education in Western culture. It also gives the child some background to choose whether or not they want to be church-affiliated.

  Although I am no longer religious, I value my church experiences, all of them. They fill certain gaps in understanding and knowledge.

  you name a song title and the next person names another title that has one of the words from the first one, making a chain of associations.. so far instance,.

  Is it a right or is it right?

  in light of the recent posts about the little boy taken out of hospital in southampton by his parents and is now somewhere between france and spain, i started reading up some of the newspaper article links posted.

  i was especially interested by the comments posted.. note my surprise, and yes horror, to see a large number of people supporting the parents decision.

  how the parents are fully in their rights to do such a thing, going as far as to imply they 'own' their child, so they can do what they want.. i know this is a very sensitive subject and i'm probably opening a can of worms, but i think it needs saying.

  Generally speaking, it's fine to believe anything, however bizarre. However, certain actions, even if based on strong belief, are wrong and need to be curbed and/or outlawed.

  What is the best advise you have ever been given?

  awhile a go i was uptight about a matter i can't remember now and my friend said to me " give the other side the victory".

  a while ago my little boy was getting uptight and argumentative with his mum i asked him " to let it go" in effect i suppose " giving the other side the victory".

  anyway i am sure our life exsperiences have allowed us both receive and give good advice.

  When I was still a JW, I was whining to a JW friend of mine about things I wanted to do, but my elder husband wouldn't "let" me. She said, "Sometimes you have to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps."

  So I started pulling. I'm no longer married to the elder. I'm no longer associated with JW's. I have had a better life ever since.

  Contemplating a Major Life Change.

  never was a jw, but been here long enough to have made some friends and respect opinions.. retired in 2004, lived in cyprus 2005-2010. back here in wales since then.. just back from a holiday in france (most recent of many).

  love the country, the lifestyle, can get by in the language.. just seen an advert for a country estate (british-owned) they want someone to live on site, do a bit of handyman stuff, etc., look after (mainly brit) holiday visitors in return for zero rent (only utitlties).

  family would be abe to come and stay for free.

  altho the neighborhood seems too upscale for witnesses, i was passing time before a medical appointment, reading old fashion magazines.

  a leaflet fell on my lap.

  one would have no clue that it is the wt people.

  I used to make labels that said "http://www.silentlambs.org" and "freeminds.org" and stick them on WT literature I would find in laundromats, medical offices or wherever. I need to get back to doing that. In fact, we all should.

  If the Governing Body Told You They Love You All Very Much, What Would Your Reply Be?

  in a letter in the 2013 yearbook of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body sign off with the words, "we love you all very much".

  these words were later echoed by one of the governing body in an address to french jehovah's witnesses in july this year.

  these words sound so marvellously compelling and heartfelt - goosebump inducing, even.. imagine the governing body wrote these words to you or expressed them to you in person- yes to you reading these very words.

  Some years ago, the Pope said something similar to this to a Latin American audience if I'm not mistakes. That's probably where the GB got the idea, IMHO.

  There's a saying I made up for women who believed their abusive significant others "loved" them. I would say, "Thank God nobody loves me!" I stand by that.

  this might be my last post.

  i've had quite a few things on my mind over the past few years, mainly my belief in god.

  i've tried to move on from the jw past but that's really being foolish.

  If you don't feel comfortable with getting professional help at this time, you should read some self-help books, such as Steve Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control. When I first exited, I did not speak of having been a JW for many years because I didn't want to talk about it.My personal recommendation for a self-help book to get you started and in a non-cult frame of mind is Your Erroneous Zones by Dr. Wayne Dyer. It helped me immensely.

  Don't give up on yourself. You're the person you have to live with no matter what. Don't expect things to smooth out too quickly. It takes time, Be patient with yourself.

  No Common Sense (About Convention)

  well,the guilt trip worked in getting them to the international convention,even though,for some,it put their health at great risk.. i'm glad that an elderly relative showed some common sense and realized she couldn't make the convention.

  but,people still treated her oddly about not going.. one of her friends,who had a stroke in the past,thought about not attending,only to get screamed at by her so-called friends.

  she did go,but it was hard on her.

  99.999% of what JW's do is out of concern for how other JW's might judge them, not out of "love" for "Jehovah" or a sense of right and wrong. They are living inauthentic lives, masquerading as paragons of piety when all they really need is a week off to relax with no concerns about how it looks to their JW buddies.
