i have to wonder if the society's leadership ever considers how.
disfellowshipping can turn against them.. i doubt, when they developed the idea of a person "disassociating.
I think DF'd JW's are more likely to return if most of their family are "in the truth." I am fortunate enough to be in a family of very few JW's, so there is little pressure on me to return.

i currently use the new world translation of the holy scriptures, and it seems to be a pretty good bible.
but i am looking for a good, modern-english version with which to do some comparison reading.
plus, i am looking for a good bible commentary for research.
Peake's Commentary is a good one.

yesterday, uk home secretary david blunkett stirred the patriotic pot by announcing that it was high time that britains asian community adopted a more british life style by at least learning to speak the language of their adopted country.. be that as it may, it has certainly got the media a-buzzing.
but an interesting point came out on todays jimmy young show on radio 2 that could equally apply to jehovahs witnesses who put up mental blocks to reasoned thinking.. a female mp member of parliament spoke at great length about foreign minority groups who shut themselves away from the outside world.
they have, she said, their own language, their own customs and their own people around them all the time.
Welcome to the board, mikelites. I don't know about the dub pilots. Being a pilot requires education, long, tedious hours of practice which takes time away from hawking magazines, and bugging neighbors.

I left the org in 1979, so there was no internet. We got on the internet in 1996, and my daughter discovered the old H2O in 1997. We took heart to see that there are so many of us, that we can offer one another support and ideas for coping.
We also noticed that ex-JW's are so darn happy to be free that they are some of the funniest, most fun-loving, wonderful people in the world!

ok i'm going to put this out there so all of you can support me by making me keep working.. i'm writing a novel based very loosely on my association with the witnesses.
right now i've got about 175 pages of a planned 300 done.
i keep letting other things get the way of my writing, and i've been semi-stuck for awhile.

a couple of months ago i was addicted to this board when the whole un thing was going on.
i really thought that the exposure of the wts's involvement would open the door for me to walk away from the wt without reprucussions, you know, a valid excuse so as to not be shunned.
(a pipe dream, i know) .
Tweetie, can you move to another state and start again? That's how I got away from the whole mess. It's a bad time economically, but I have always been able to survive on temporary jobs until something else came along.

a propos of ldh's appeal for gifts and cards for the baby in the hospital in toronto, it occurred to me that those of us who are so inclined and have the means might want to send gifts and/or cards to the slack children.
these kids are basically orphans now.. i found the address of the cook county guardian at the cook county website.

Laree Slack, age 12, was beaten to death by her parents a couple of weeks ago. She was in charge of doing the laundry for the family. Her parents were looking for some credit cards which might have been left in a pocket, and they thought she wasn't being cooperative in helping find the credit cards.
She was beaten "forty times less one" (supposedly "biblical") with an electric cable by her parents. Her mother, a nurse, stuffed a rag in her mouth so she couldn't be heard screaming. Her siblings (four of them, I think) had to hold her down. After being beaten with 40 lashes less one three times, on both sides, she died of internal bleeding.
I looked up the story at the Chicago Sun-Times site. I don't know if all of the above information is entirely accurate. But both parents are in custody (thank God!) and the remaining children have become wards of the state.

well this is the day.. i mentioned to my mum that i read a good book recently about dates, and cronology.. she blew up and told me i was just trying to read anything that attempts to disprove jws.. apparently i am like those apostates, and people didnt want to talk to my because of it.. "this is the truth", she said.. well i am now an apostate.
