i am thinking about starting to take some courses, working toward my degree.

i would appreciate some feedback.. on the one hand, i have made a successful career for myself as a highly paid computer professional, working for a variety of prominent companies here in the usa over the last 12 years.

this, in spite of not going to college for reasons that you all understand.. to date, the only companies that cared that i did not have a degree, once i had a few years experience, were companies that worked with universities and higher education products.

Given that you love learning, college would be a great experience for you and probably open a few more doors. I work for a government agency and our minimum qualifications for many positions specify some sort of degree even if the job could be done by someone without a degree.

I graduated from college when I was 37 years old. It was such fun going back, just hanging out with other "oldsters" on campus and the discussions and arguments in the classroom. Go for it!

A question on counting time

well after lurking for a year i figure it's time to start giving back and geting views on my own thoughts, here we go.

my wife (a jw i'm not)was saying lastnight that she felt bad because she only got 2 hrs this month so far (going out all day today).

never mind the fact she's started to volunteer at a childrens hospital.. .

Watchtower doublespeak is too much! They used to tell us that when we were baptized we dedicated our lives to God, not to an organization, but somehow without the organization, God was unreachable, unavailable, and we cut ourselves off from Him by leaving the org. Your post is along the same lines about their dual spin on counting time.

Star Wars vs Lord Of The Rings

last year on h20 focus drew my attention to reading tolkien's lord of the rings.

i'd long appreciated the artwork and finally got arround to reading the book a few months ago.

Disfellowshipping: A protection in the end?

well, the year is nearly out, and as the new one approaches i'm thinking back on 2 years of being in the online exjw community and, in june 2002, my four year anniversary of my df'ing.. when first i came to h2o seeking comfort and support in january 2000, i had been df'd for a year and a half and online nearly 4 years but never had the guts to type "jehovah's witnesses" into a search engine.

that search led me to freeminds (thanks, randy *hug*) and then, to h2o.. what a journey its been.

i've gone from devastation at losing my family, to anger, through the anger to numbness, back through sadness, and now after much soul searching and a chance change of circumstances last summer, come to look at my disfellowshipping in an entirely new light.. those who know my history know that i was born into the borg, baptized at 12, married at 19, and was a very loyal, unquestioning dub until the age of 24 when the elders told me that my miscarried babies had no status with god.

A twisted Irony and a question ......

i know ya'll will probably get sick of seeing my name but i hope you understand why i am here so much.. anyway, one really ironic thing i was thinking about is that its amazing how much hate i had/have inside of me my whole life.

hate my father, my sister.

i have always been angry and hated people.

Like others here, my non-JW relatives accepted me and never brought up the past. It was hard for me to believe that I might survive the world's greatest cataclysm and most of the people I loved would not. That kind of thinking made it hard for me to do anything else but keep my distance while I was a JW.

The best outcome of all is that my daughter and I have a close, normal relationship again as we did when she was small. I left her dad and the JW's when she was 7 years old. Her dad did everything possible to keep her away from me physically and emotionally. He told me to go away and forget about her. He accused me of things that never happened. He told her things that were entirely inappropriate for a child to hear. But she always had some kind of innate wisdom that prompted friends of mine to say she must be an "old soul." I feel very fortunate and greatly blessed to have all of my family back, especially my daughter.

My granddaughter, who just celebrated(!) her 12th birthday. She has never been exposed to the JW religion, and she is very confident and happy, involved with school politics, orchestra, Little League baseball, and other normal activities. The only time she hears the words "Kingdom Hall" is when my daughter jokingly threatens her with a trip to the Kingdom Hall as punishment or to make her appreciate what she has.

Don't give up on anyone. Miracles happen every day.
