  my evangelical christian co-worker is extremely "racist" towards Hispanics

  i am getting so tired of my co-worker who is a "evangelical christian" constantly making racist slurs towards hispanic people.

  i just don't get it and it is making me very uncomfortable because i wonder what he says about "black" people behind my back.

  everyday he makes comments such as "mexicans" are dumb and stupid, "mexicans all can't speak good english", "mexicans have 50 million babies" and "mexicans are all on welfare".

  Does your company have many Hispanic customers or clients? Do the customers or clients hear what you guys are saying sometimes?

  I believe what you're experiencing with your co-worker is all too common. I've been through this before, too. What I would point out to your co-worker is that the things he complains about are not exclusive to any group or ethnicity. There are people who say similar things about eastern Europeans, Appalachian Americans ("hillbillies"), African Americans, and other ethnic groups.

  I usually tell people that everyone is an individual, and it is not right to "paint everyone with the same brush" because they belong to a particular group.

  ok i walked out on austin powers because i thought it was so crude and god dishonoring.

  since the fade i think it is very funny, still not a favorite but not the end of the world either.

  any movies that were a big sin are nothing now?

  My JW husband and I went to the drive-in to watch Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice. He left when something sexual (that he actually understood!) was said. A lot of sexual terms had already been used, but he didn't know those big words.

  Who is Charles Swindoll? He doesn't sound like a JW, but in the '70's I remember a talk by a Brother Swindoll (or am I confusing the name with another "S" name?) from Bethel.

  really, the bible was written by nothin' but goat herders?

  i don't post much but this does irk me.

  yes a few may have been shepherds or fisherman, but a fair amount were far more educated and were professionals in their fields of occupation.

  For the time they lived in, they were experienced, well traveled and well educated. But they knew nothing of astronomy and a lot of other subjects. Galileo was persecuted by the church because he realized that the earth was not the center of the universe. Smart as they were, they were ignorant by the standards of today. There wasn't even a scientific method to test hypotheses.

  so my good ol soon to be ex father in law told me a few years ago (before i had told him of my horrible apostate ideas) about a "client" of his.

  my fil used to be involved in the insurance/finance industries.

  he had a lady client that was about 20 years older than him.

  Was this poor old woman "of sound and disposing mind and memory" when she made the decision to leave everything to your FIL? Her kids could contest the will on that basis, I believe.

  In some states, there are laws against taking advantage of senior citizens. This situation may not be as straightforward as your FIL believes.

  Great story! As a convert with almost no JW family, I often wonder how much more traumatic it must be for born-ins to get out. You, obviously, are smarter than the average bear, and 'waaaay smarter than the average JW. That helps. I am so glad you were willing to accept the things you learned instead of rationalizing so you could stay connected to the bogus religion.

  Have you read Eric Hoffer's The True Believer? If not, I recommend it. It deals with some of the issues you brought up in your post.

  Mars One Expedition

  you have probably heard that there is a mars expedition that is being planned in 2023 where a permanent human settlement will be established.

  i stopped going to the meetings last september and told them that i didn't want to be badgered.

  to be fair, they have not visited or called in nine months, apart from passing on their hello's to my wife and daughter who still attend.

  anyhoo, i have had a fair amount of time to do pretty much what i have wanted over the past 9 months and so i have just finished my book.

  Thanks, laverite. In the 7th grade, on a spelling quiz, I spelled "judgment" as "judgement." My teacher marked it wrong, so I looked it up in the dictionary, where it showed both spellings. My teacher explained that "judgement" is the British spelling. I need to take a British spelling course.

  today i added a new article to my blog taking a closer look at watchtowers doctrinal position that jehovahs witnesses should not even eat a meal with disfellowshipped individuals.

  as it turns out watchtower holds families among jehovahs witnesses to one standard and holds itself to a wholly different standard.

  They're not even pretending that their inconsistency is "Bible-based." They are just taking care not to tarnish their image even more. Image is everything.
