In general, teenagers are barely mature enough to decide which subjects they want to take at school or what kind of job/career they want to pursue, so I don't really think they're really best placed to make such fundamentally life-altering decisions in respect of issues such as belief, spirituality and any kind of religious life... of course, it's worth bearing in mind that the JW culture is one that, through its strictures on sexuality, fosters a high incidence of teenage marriages - an equally life-changing decision which those involved are often disastrously ill-prepared to make, or deal with the later consequences of...

Are teenagers old enought to get baptised?
by sleepy ini, like many on this board got baptised when still a teenager (17).. at the time i thought i knew what i was doing and could take full responsibility for my actions.. 10 years later i realise i knew very little back then compared to what i know now.. was i old enought to make my mind up?.
or could we always at any age ,be looking back at things we did wrong thinking if only i knew what i know now?.
actually how much responsibility can we hold over what we did as teenagers .weren't we pushed by the congregation and parents, we had little knowledge of anything else being force fed the "truth" since babies.. at such a young age aren't we much more vulnerable to brainwashing ?.

Sorry - just couldn't resist such a golden opportunity
Seriously, knock yerself out - God knows, we had precious little opportunity in the BOrg, especially after they clamped down on 'large gatherings' (i.e. more than you could fit in a broom closet) - miserable bastards... "Jehovah's happy people"? In a pig's a$$!

Why don't people like me
by joelbear ini've recently discovered that the great majority of my problems are my own fault.
which leads me to conclude that it is also my own fault that people don't like me very much.. y'all have pretty much seen me at my best and my worst.
why do you think people don't like me?.

I'm not D/f or D/a and my dad wont even talk to me
by LyinEyes inthe last time i heard from my father, was last july , a few days before a special assembly day.
he heard that we were not going to meeting anymore, which was stange since hubby was an elder last time he thought to check on me.
i have always been the good daughter, the one who stayed in "the truth" , the one he was so proud of.

I can definitely relate here... I wasn't DF/DA (couldn't be, as I was never 'dunked' - a small mercy), but my views of the WTS, when they were eventually known (after doing my best to keep them hidden, knowing the grief it would cause), led to my being shunned by my three sibs (my JW mother too, initially, though thankfully she came to her senses; the parental bond can overcome a lot, even religious brainwashing ).
It's a situation that continues today, a couple of years down the line, and I can only echo what others have said; as hard as it most definitely is (I still often vacillate between feelings of anger and grief for lost relationships from time to time), the best thing you can do for your own wellbeing is to emotionally distance yourself from the situation and concentrate on working towards building a post-WT life for yourself, while still 'keeping the door open' for your father, should he have a change of heart in the future (knowing the power of the WT, though, I wouldn't pin my hopes on it).
Very best wishes to you ((((((LyinEyes))))))

Sloppy typo in the Watchtower.
by Nemesis ini was just wondering if this typo is in the us version also?
its in the 1 may 2002 watchtower p.31 on the far right block of text on the seventh line down:.
and members of the great crowd are not in the inner courtyard of jehovahs great spiritual temple, which courtyard represents the condition of prefect, righteous human sonship ot the members of jehovahs holy priesthood while they are on earth.. i know its just a small typo, but i have never seen a mistake like this before [to my memory] in the watch towers literaturehas anyone else?.

FYI, I remember, many moons ago, seeing 'Egypt' spelled 'Eygpt' in a WT; can't remember the issue, sadly - it might've been worth a bit, too though I do remember the shock of seeing a 'typo' occurring in literature from Jehovah's 'perfect' organisation, LOL... if I knew then what I know now - typos'd be the LEAST of my worries...

i love watching american football, so right after the meeting all in my family would go straight for the car, so we could catch as much as possible.

(For UK posters) - Top Of The Pops on a Thursday night!! The only exceptions being if you were ill, or it was the Thursday before a CA or DC... this was all pre the mass advent of the VCR... Of course, once I was too much of an old fart to appreciate it, they changed it to a Friday!!

Query - Luke 17v21/Acts 1v18
by musicnonstop inhoping someone can enlighten me here.... the above couple of fragments of scripture popped into my head the other day... in the nwt, the first refers to jesus' words re the kingdom of god being "in your midst" (which other translations render as "within you"); the second, referring to judas' suicide, says he "noisily burst in his midst" .
i don't have a greek interlinear these days, so what i'm wanting to know is: is the same original greek term used in both cases?
in luke, the wt's rendering carries the sense of 'among'; if you go with the 'within' rendering, then it would be feasible (to me) that the same word would be used in both places, as what happened to judas could be said to have happened from 'within' him.. i'm curious because if it is the same word both times, then the 'within' rendering would make more sense, and would confirm jesus' words on the nature of the kingdom of god, which might be handy to bring up with my jw mother at some point.
