Thanks for sharing your story.I tried to go back to meetings with the thought that I could just pick the things I wanted to believe, and not worry about the rest.I found out that the society really wants us to believe everything they teach as truth. They don't want independent thinkers who don't agree with everything. They say it's o.k. if we don't understand everything.Just as long as we are submissive to the teachings.I couldn't accept that.I took a NIV bible to the meeting once just to see what the reaction would be.From quite a distance it was obvious it was not a NWT.I got some pretty cold stares.I thought why should it be a big deal just to take another translation along. It is all God's word.Anyway,I wish you the very best and I hope you will continue to be encouraged and encourage others along the way.

Perimeno
by Truthexplorer inafter i decided/resolved to return to meetings several months ago, after being away on and off for several years; i can honestly say that i feel far more settled and comfortable in attending meetings again.. i struggled to attend before, having been reproved, then moving to a different congregation which i didnt find to be overly freindly.
it was only after i was reproved that i began to see all the past history of the soc iety(via internet) and the many things that simply stumbled me.
3 times i tried to return to meetings and three times i fell away.

"Write a murder mystery with a unique ending, with a twist that would even shock me when I read it."
I like that! You could call it "Author shock"

Jonestown cult and the JWs
by jonathan dough inanyone see the recent cnn special on jonestown?
it really bothered me, particularly when listening to the survivors talk about the amount of control exerted over them; they were afraid, terrified, couldn't just walk away, family members were snitching on each other, families were split up in the end, tugged out of arms, they were well dressed seemingly happy people who were clapping and cheering until you looked in their eyes.. the similarities with the jws isstaggering.
jones preached obedience, obedience, obedience.

There are no boundaries on what people do in this life, when they believe that there is a promise of eternal happiness after it.

There are also on line public charter schools that use state funding and have state certified teachers who are available to answer questions from students. It varies from state to state. It also allows you to log in as a parent on your child's account to see what their progress is, providing an opportunity for some good discussion when you see her.Home schooling works well for some but not others. There are a lot of people who say home school is bad because they don't get the association of other kids.I think the same argument could also be used to justify home schooling.

I Am Not at Home Here.
by compound complex ini awake in a place that clearly is not home.. looking about in a blurry daze, the expected trappings of bed, chair and scuffed, dirty walls have somehow disappeared during my wretched slumber.
all the familiar has slid away, swirling downward, but not swallowed, into an eerily black vortex above which my stiffened body floats unaffected by the devouring maelstrom.
my immediate surroundings are an atmosphere of greenish hue that is part of what appears to be sky.

The homeless sister and the $60,000 RV
by HappyGuy ini was in a congregation once which had a large number of desperately poor people in it.
there was an elderly sister, she lived near me, a sweet woman, who became homeless because her ramshackled old house caught fire.
around that same time one of the overseers (imagine that using a slavery term), i forget if it was district or circuit overseer, came to town wanting a new rv/truck combo.

HappyGuy, Thank you for posting that story. So I take it you are off the committee?LOL
I am glad to see you stood up for what you thought was right. There should have been no problem at all with you voicing your opinion at the hall, provided you did not raise your voice or went crazy all over em.
"the society is not a social welfare organization"
Yet that is what the "society" is all about isn't it?Telling followers to go and help others get eternal life by preaching the good news about Jehovah's kingdom? We donated our time and money to go door to door to help others. So,why can't the society help it's own members when they need it?Your story makes me wonder why most witnesses go door to door.It has more to do with getting their own salvation than helping others.
I look forward to reading more of you posts!

what would you do for free wi-fi?..
by oompa inok...im gettin a bit desperate here in no wifi land!!
!....new apt and all....i dont want a contract as i dont know how long i will be here.........there are two secure signals i get here and would soooo love to talk a neighbor into letting me have his access info..........and i can walk right across the street and have free high speed internet...so i am grateful for that as i sit in my truck eating chinese takeout and clicking away!...man i love freedom!!!!.
...if anyone wants to know...you can buy a device on ebay.....just search yagi and the antenna will pop up...it picks up weak signals and rebroadcasts it in your home...i have used it and they do work great for about 149 bucks us...... but i was thinking of finding who owns these signals and give a bottle of wine...let them ride my bikes....hell i would wash their windows!!

Well, I think there are people who are over the ideal BMI and are happy.I think it is harder for some than for others to maintain the ideal weight,so it causes more stress and unhappiness to try to attain that, than for others. Just my 2 cents though.
