the offer for feb.is the new " draw close to god book ",released at the 2002 district convention.the jan.km.

says,"this publication is designed to help people use their own bible to draw close to god.their own bible, not the nwt.. yet the society claims for itself and its translation of the nwt.a peculiar freedom from what they define as "the misleading influence of religious traditions,which have their roots in paganism,they go on to insist that this "influence" has colored the inspired word of god".. so it is necessary for them to set aright the numerous examples of "human traditionalism"that is evidenced in ( all translations,) including your own bible ,from john wycliffe's to the present.your own bible has been interwoven to color the thought in support of a preferred religious view,an inconsistency and unreasonableness have been insinuated into the teachings of the inspired writings.. the endeavor of the new world bible translation committee has been to avoid this snare of religious traditionalism.. now my point of all of this is: how can they indict the great scholars of all translations, and elevate their own nwt.then tell the rank and file to offer the new book in feb.by lyingly telling the public,the householder,that this publication is designed to help you draw close to god by using your own bible ,which is inconsistent and unreasonable among other snares of religious traditionalisms.and not use the nwt which they claim avoids all of this .. so,when they come to your door this feb.to offer you the new book to read with your own bible,you can say "why should i use my own bible,its pagan,i want the nwt.

Good post.

People who may be interested in the witnesses who stop at there door would usually want to use there own bible to see what the real truth is. So this offer would appeal to many. The person finds out later when attending meetings , what an " accurate " translation the NWT is, and would start using it to fit in with the others. I tried to bring my NIV version to the hall ( large leather bound) and got some strange and unapproving looks from people. They never did say anything though. How could they when there is no "rule" against using other translations.

They Did Me a Big Favor by DFing Me

even though i'd accumulated 20 years of doubts and disappointments, i fought my last dfing tooth-and-nail.

if they hadn't dfd me, i'd still be "in" mentally and psychologically.

heck, i was still "in" for another year and a half after, even though i thought i was out.

When I was going to be disfellowshipped, I was convinced to fight it by someone else. A total of 6 elders sat in judgment of me. The result was that the decision was overturned, and I am still not disfellowshipped. That was 10 years ago. I think you are right about the feeling "in" partially, because thats the way I feel. I think its not so bad though.

What do I tell my parents?

i have decided to no longer be a jw.

this comes after spending all but 3 of my 36 yrs on this earth as one.

yes it is a huge step, but one i know i must make.

truthseekers1, Welcome. You must have some fine parents, because they raised you to think for yourself obviously. I will always have a great respect for my parents, even though I don't share all of their witness beliefs. I was raised as a witness. It has usually helped me to go little steps rather than say everything all at once. That seems to put people on the defensive . I hope everything goes well with you and your family.

Is that a fact???

is it just me or does anyone else get really screwed up when they read something here on the board which they know is not factual and is utterly and completely wrong?

im not giving examples because youve all seen it.. what really gets to me is that when someone posts stuff that is completely factually inaccurate it makes all the posters here look like dummies.

i get to thinking about what all the jw lurkers must feel about "the stupid apostates" when they read some of this stuff.. i just wish that some people would do a bit of research before posting statements which they claim to be accurate.

Stan, youve got itall wrong. Russell was no martian pedophile. at least not until he was 30 I think. No , I am sure it was a fact! And Rutherford was no woman either. He only dressed as such, Well , I think so anyway. No, I am sure that is fact also! Get those facts straight next time.

Corporal punishment and JWs

how many of you were spanked, beaten or in some other way physically corrected as a jw?.

my mother used to beat me with her hands, shoes, belts and various other items within reach when i misbehaved.

many times it was borderline abuse.. do jws teach to beat their kids into submission using physical means?

Many kids were taken to the back of the hall, to the bathroom and spanked. HARD. What an echo!

That was years ago. Now, that doesent't happen anymore that I know of. At least not at the hall. It is funny how the bible is not supposed to change, but the rule on spankings far as the tower is concerned, seemed to have changed with the times.

My mother (coldhearted JW she is)

this is really bothering me, and i have a need to vent.

is it normal for grandparents to not take an active interest in their grandchildren?

my mother is still a dub, and i faded away about seven years ago.

I would suggest that you tell her exactly how you feel. Tell her that you feel its because you are not going to meetings resulting in her not treating your children as expected. Maybe she feels different than you think. Either way, At this point in her life she will not change. My folks are somewhat the same. They seem like they want there own life, and we shouldn't be bothering them. So, every once in a while, they call us or we call them. We sometimes visit eachothers house once in a while. I have a wife and 2 children, 6 and 4.

Just try to set the best example you can, both for your kids and your mom. I would not blame the watchtower 100% for something like this. Usually, the rules and regulations of the tower are used as an excuse for what the person already feels in there heart.
