I'm just sitting here watching it and typing up prompts and questions for them to answer.

jw states: since the apostles made mistakes, it is okay for us to make mistakes as well".
is it the logical fallacy of "two wrongs make a right"?
the apostles were directed by god, the governing body is not.
First, you're assuming the apostles actually were appointed by God.
Second, the GB is assuming THEY are appointed by God. This is "Begging the Question."
Thirdly, the GB are equating themselves with the apostles, which is more "Begging the Question."
But since we're "comparing" the two, let's examine the similarities and differences:
There's lots more, but if that doesn't convince someone NOTHING will!
BTW, Never discuss doctrine!
so one of the things both me and my wife are faced with is breaking the news that we've stopped going to meetings to our parents.
my wifes parents could go either way, they have made several critical remarks of the wt over the years, while my parents are die hard jw's.
i tossed the idea around of sending a letter or doing a phone call or just not saying anything.. we've decided that were just tired of having to hide our true feelings and play pretend.
TweetieBird: Recently got a letter from her about how we fit the definition of an apostate since we have left the faith.
tootired2care: All we are thinking of saying is that we no longer believe the WT corporations teachings
WTBTS:
- Jehovah = the organization
- The Organization = Jehovah
- People the leave the organization are apostates
The WTBTS has defined the word "apostate" so that anyone that disagrees or even leaves silently is an "apostate." Apostates are to be shunned.
Let's review: It's a cult!
i was just thinking about that scripture, 2 john 9-11, if i remember correctly.
jehovah's witnesses use it to justify their shunning of members who have been expelled.
a thought just occurred to me about it.
WT/JW shunning policy is, as you know, NOT a coherent, logical policy that can be supported by scripture. As you pointed out, the relevant (or not) scriptures can be interpreted to make them say pretty much whatever you want.
At the risk of stating the obvious, the way JW shunning is practiced has two parallel purposes:
This is pretty much why many societies used to (and some still do) have public floggings and executions.
The beatings will continue until morale improves!
A crowd watched as a black hood was placed on Rainey Bethea’s head before his hanging on Aug. 14, 1936. In 1938, Kentucky ended public executions - the last state to do so.

The last few years I was still serving as an elder I began to edit my assignments. First I just left out things I had doubts about or disagreed with. Then I went through all my Public Talk outlines and culled the ones that even dealt with subjects I couldn't endorse. I asked the Talk Coordinator for a couple of new outlines telling him I wanted to "freshen up" my talks. I picked subjects which were non-controversial (to me). Then I told him I would no longer be giving this talk or that.
The first talks I dumped were the ones that dealt with End Times predictions and Last Days prophecies, such as the Seven Times of Daniel or the Time of the Gentiles. Really I only gave talks on subjects like "Appreciating the Marvels of God's Creation" or topics dealing with developing Christian qualities. Ironically, I only recently realized that these were the things that interested me and in which I believed BEFORE I became a JW!
I made similar changes in my TMS/SM parts and of course only commented at the WT or Bookstudy accordingly.
Now to me, this is the truly amazing thing: No one seemed to notice! Not my wife, not my kids, not my fellow elders or anyone else, no one seemed to notice the changes.
If anyone did notice, they never said anything.
folks, i am beside myself!.
mrs. called the jws a cult!
i, for certain, couldnt believe my ears at first.. quick background info first: mrs. is a second generation successfully faded jw.
good for you and her too!
if someone tried to pick a fight, would you try to diffuse it, egg it on, walk away, throw the first punch or defend yourself if someone tried to smack you??
?.
If you can calm someone down, do so.
If you can walk away, do so.
If you can't walk away: hit them first, hit them hard. Win or go down trying.
I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.
i'm not talking about any gb members, either!.
... we proved we were Jdubs with our blood cards ...
Hahahahahaha!
So this is how JWs prove they worship Jehovah. Funny. With a card ... "I'm a card carrying JW, yes I am."
I'm disfellowshipped and I still have a "blood card" around here somewhere (just not in my wallet anymore). What does THAT prove?
BTW, it's actually an Advance Decision to Refuse Specified Medical Treatment - NO BLOOD, but if you want to use slang it would be more appropriate to call it a "No-Blood Card."
i went to the k-hall with my son.
this was a terrible watchtower article.
i feel they did try to breake my personality.
Yeah, really lame "reasoning" to justify their incessant need for blind, unthinking obedience.
Here's a lovely example from page 13:
"Because of what they perceive as defects in the elders, some individuals who engage in serious wrongdoing in the congregation have refused to appear before a committee of elders assigned to help them. This could be likened to a patient who loses out on the benefits of a treatment because he does not like something about the doctor."

i'm not talking about any gb members, either!.
No, but several famous people have met me.
