The Society Encourages Reading 1951-on Bound Volum

the latest nov. km recommends getting the bound volumes from 1951 onward, because they are still useful to us.

if someone suggests that we shouldn't read the older publications because of the "old light", this km sets the matter straight!

my question is "why on earth would the society recommend re-reading these old volumes"?

Of course, I'm being facetious, Blondie. I was certain that you are "out of the Borg". One of the reasons that I won't go back to the Borg is that I couldn't keep a "straight-face". Those jerx burned my serious side out about 30 years ago.

I do serious Bible discussion with my buddy, the Nuclear Physicist whose father was a lifetime Assemblies Of God preacher. To seriously talk to the brainwashed Dub about anything scriptural, that has a QUESTION MARK attached, is like talking to a fence-post wearing a tape recorder with only a Playback function.

It's that time of the year; by all means, get out there & 'hustle' those XMAS NWT's.

I can't wait for my copy of the WTS XMAS Catalog!!!

While they're at it, they can run off a Special Limited Edition of the Pentateuch, with the Judges, Kings & Prophets as well. That would follow the Torah "lineup". How about a nice blue cover this time, with a gold STAR OF DAVID embossed in the front or at least on the spine? The SoftCover edition would go for extra $$ (or shekel's).

For a few dollars more, make it a Hebrew Interlinear. This will do nicely around Passover and Hanukkah!!!!

"...from 1951 onward.." makes sense. Read in between the lines: this is what they overprinted!!!!

What if they opened some vault or warehouse somewhere and found NEW OLD STOCK 40's Rutherford books. Guess what the new offer would be?? I wouldn't be surprised if next months offer is your local last years PHONE BOOK!!!

If they will sell old literature (which surely contains OLD LIGHT), for money$$$, what else do we need to know about these creatures.

Can we talk about something deep?

the other night my mom called me to just talk.

my mother is a jehovah's witness still, so it is not unusual for that to be obvious in the conversation.

now i love my mom very much, and enjoy any time i can spend talking to her.

I recently discovered something very similar. I have regaled the board with my agonies a few times.

Long story short: Dad called me every two weeks to drag me back for 20+ years.

I finally decided to write my grievances down in a letter, as he kept "asking for it" (exactly that: "...what have I ever done to you?"). I decided to confront this head on. Next thing I know, talking to his wife (my "stepmother"; sounds strange, as we are all getting old). She is telling how the letter I wrote (in his view) was one of contrition and agreement with his views!!!

WHAT!!! I know that I said something insulting and inflammatory at least once. Turns out my writing is "stilted" compared to his literary abilities. Also, he is approaching senility, but is still carrying on the campaign to re-convert. But occasionally, he lapses into a dream world where he has "won".

I immediately discussed this incident with my brother; I thought about it and decided NOT to "DUMB DOWN" my communication with him. If anything, the JW's did the "rob me of my education" thing. I got through that with a lot of effort. I am through living my life for him. This is who I am: DEAL WITH IT!!!

For those that've been out of the borg for 25+ yrs

if we were to go back to the borg, would we see any marked difference in the attitudes/environment in the organization?

would it appear more liberal or more strict than it was 20 or more years ago?

or would it appear that not much has changed?.

To clarify: My question was "does the introduction of the Baptism questions make any difference"? That was incomplete and should have referred to the "200 questions" asked before Baptism.

There are possibly two matters here that are being mixed up: The change in the QUESTIONS ASKED AT THE BAPTISM CEREMONY and the BEGINNING/START/INTRODUCTION OF THE EXAMINATIONS BEFORE BAPTISM.

I should have been more explicit and asked about the latter.

I agree that the change of the actual questions asked at the ceremony hardly made a difference and PROBABLY WAS NOT EVEN NOTICED!!!

The change of the actual Baptismal Questions (two, at the ceremony) is given variously given as ~82-86, I believe. The introduction of the "Pre-Baptismal Examination" (or whatever it is called) was perhaps 70-72. I wasn't paying too much attention then as I was doing the drift away routine about this time.

So, I was wondering if this attempt at "Quality Control" (!!!!????) by WTS had any effect. Did the introduction of the "PRE-BAPTISMAL EXAMINATION" make any difference; that was my real question.

I know you didn't ask that, but I'm going to look again at your comments about the older versus the newer members of the survey.

I am guessing that I am one of the older members of the survey. (Wow, I didn't expect that!!! Now I'll have to think of something derogatory!!! )

I agree with this, though having been out at about the limit of your range, i have only my readings here for comparison.

That's possible. It's like the old joke about the French Foreign Legion: "I came here to forget". "Well, why are you here?" "I forgot".

Question: does the introduction of the Baptism questions make any difference? I left slightly after that started. I certainly never was subjected to them. I suppose that was some measure of trying to screen the incoming and "improve quality". Would you be likely nto see a difference, based on that?
