Michelle my ex wife leaves the witnesses

ive just finished talkin on the phone to michelle my ex wife she has decided she has had enough.

she has told them they all suffer from anxiety and paranoia because of the literature.

thursday night is actualy her last night and michelle has written a letter saying she is very upset about the current literature because of its manipulative nature.. michelle is not one for letting the grass grow underfoot and has already made contacts with christian life ministries a charismatic group for her new spiritual home.

What should I say?

to refresh your memories, i was raised as a jw, as of the last few yrs my mom has been inactive (she's the only jw in the family).

i was never baptized talking and talking and talking, i felt insulted because i already knew everything we were going over.

however....winter break is begins next week, so i'm going home for about a month.

Another facet of the REAL TRUTH is that you are studying and are a full time college student. You have to maintain CONTROL of your time for your own purposes.

You have taken a class in time management and have discovered that the methods of study used by JWs are grossly inefficient. ()

This is not as far-fetched as it would seem. We have heard of the "engineered" busy-work methods that the WTS uses to occupy the time of the JW drones.

Also, a few years ago, an old acquaintance/Bible Study of mine tracked me down. He had gone totally "JW saved" and was suffering from terminal zealous-itis!!!! He sent me a memorial invitation and a copy of the latest Daniel book. When I opened the Daniel book, there was a SCHEDULE OF THE TUESDAY NIGHT BOOK STUDY!!!

I was appalled: 6 months plus for this short form, piss-ant version of the 60's original "Your Will Be Done" book. I got out a copy of the YW(?) original Daniel book and spent the next two nights reading, skimming and comparing the two. I whipped that 6 months of study into 2 nights. I was really and seriously after finding out the differences and looking for "new light". ( )

Well, I found what I was looking for.

OK, you could tell this person what you have learned about study methods. If she wants a study, it will be done on your terms and you will be the conductor. I'm sure that this will go over like a lead balloon. ( )

Reestablishing family ties with non-Witnesses

as most of you folks know, non-witness family members are treated almost the same way as jw's treat disfellowshipped people.

after leaving the borg, fully or partially, has anyone had good results in reestablishing relationships with non-witnesses family relatives?

i've got over a dozen cousins that i'd like to have a relationship with once again, but i'm not sure the best way to break-the-ice.

After my mother's funeral, my brother and I agreed that there was more genuine love shown by our "pagan" cousins than the JW side of the family. It was no problem at all re-"relating" to them.

Was I a coward?

right before i disassociated myself last march, i sent an email to quite a number of jw's that contained only a link to an "apostate" website that had been instrumental in my seeing the the truth about the wt.. well, nobody responded to it except for one person, a guy who i hadn't had any contact with my last year in.

he started out with "yikes, do you know i'm disfellowshipped?

" he then went on for several paragraphs defending the org, how loving the brothers were when they disfellowshipped him .

First, I have to puke over: "how loving the brothers were when they disfellowshipped him..."

Then I have to say that I agree with the other posters. It has been my experience that JWs will do "hit-and-run" tactics in discussion. This includes lobbing some strong sounding but flawed arguments. This throws you off balance; before you can recover (and that may include hitting the books for research) they change the subject.

Now, they will either rapid-fire throw in a another subject or two, or shut down. Either way, the shut-down is the end result. This is inevitable, once they have gone on the defensive.

My experience in recent times has been restricted to debate with a close relative and rare encounters "at the door". The whole mess with the relative got more physical (demands & "do more") than scriptural.

So, I have confined these activities beating them to the punch: shutting down. (I also got into legal tactics with the JW relative who crossed the criminal line.)

It does not seem that their preaching efforts bring anything real. Conversely, a preaching directed at them is usually deflected by their built-in "shield mechanism".

In the long run, its best to study them and their flaws from a distance. In that way you can be prepared for the occasional genuine interaction when a JWs eyes open.

NO, you werent a coward. You did quite well, all considered.
