Only there is no 0% tax for the poorest. Everytime you earn some money you get taxed, every time you save some money you get taxed, everytime you spend some money you get taxed etc etc. I wonder how much the prof earns? :)

Could Britain become a racists paradise?

he is a highly skilled engineer and runs the maintenance department.
in britain at the moment it is very difficult to find highly skilled engineers and so firms have been recruiting abroad, only to find that these 'high' skills are just as rare abroad and also nearly as expensive.. so, my husbands firm have basically decided, to cut costs, they have written out a new contract for all their workers.

The same thing Gill, just wait and see. Until people decide to act en mass and do something, those with the power to do so will claw back all the gains our parents and grandparents etc fought and died for. I remember in the 80s how we managed to get sick pay if we agreed to go to a monthly pay system. Now all those things are 'inefficient', but only for us of course. :) Btw, I worked for 20 years as an Engineer so I can appreciate your husbands predicament.

One of the 'benefits' of EU expansion is the import of cheap workers into countries like the UK and driving down the wages of native workers. Companies are allowed to get away with murder (Potters Bar train crash). Quite frankly I have lost all faith in politics, politicans and governments. They serve the interests of the powerful minorities and try to make us feel like we get a choice. The only choice for us is to decide which bunch of ex lawyers we are going to let screw us over for the following 4 or 5 years. I am really sorry to hear about your husband's situation Gill. It's not just the Employers that are to blame though, the Unions have sat on their arses for too long as well. Strange how all the 'progress' we hear about always means the loss of fair and decent working conditions for us isn't it?

It's pretty sad how JW's think that anyone is actually paying attention to the tract. I spoke with a JW today who seemed to think that Elton John and the rest of the world are getting stirred up by what it has to say. Another WT fantasy.

SHOCKING!
by Dansk ini just managed to see the last 15 minutes or so of the 'tonight with trevor mcdonald' programme on british tv.
it concerned young children under 12 who had their blood tested and it was found they all had (at least those i saw) high levels of toxic chemicals in their blood.
one family ate organic produce and were generally the "healthy" type and yet their daughter had the highest levels of certain chemicals than others in the study.. a toxicologist said that although the chemicals were high we shouldn't worry too much as they are twice as high in the usa!!!.

Why are elders so serious?
by JH inall that they do, they seem so stiff and serious.
often i will see elders still dressed in a suit hours before or after a meeting.
i'll see other elders cars parked in front of an elders home, and they are in a meeting discussing something serious.. can't these guys relax a bit and get a life out of the borg?.

Will there be a time when NO ONE will be able to become a JW anymore?

the witnesses always said that at some point in time, it will be too late to join, the doors will be closed.. do you believe that will happen, or is it just to scare the witnesses?
and what would trigger the watchtower to decide, it's too late?

Listening to a piece on the news about global water supplies the date 2010 was mentioned.
My mum announced that there is no need to worry because the end will come before then for sure,
they said so at the meetings and at the CA apparently. :)
