by Aztec insorry if this has been brought up before (and i'm sure it has) but what are your nicknames?
what people nickname you can be very telling about your personality and it's funny that they sometimes become more a part of you than your given name.. i have a long list of them..lol!.

While we all have different personalities, talents, and interests, we all have a common bond, and of course, we know what that is. So, I hope that we can keep in mind our common bond, and not allow our differences to disrupt our time with each other. You know, as JWs, we were pretty much cooky cutter people. We all talked the same and thought the same. While it is comforting to live in such a sheltered world, it was also very stifling. I hope that in our freedom we can learn to appreciate, tolerate, and enjoy our diversity.
larc, that was beautifully said.

What upsets me is all the missed Father's Days. I sent my dad the first card from me to him today, and my husband received his first card today as well. He is a loving step-father to my daughter. She picked out a card for him before she left on a trip and thoughtfully wrote out a personal message for him. I gave it to him today. He was touched. She followed up with a phone call to him tonight.

My childhood/family nickname is named after my mother's nickname. Her family called her Katie from her name Katrina (later they shortened it to Kay). Her brother who was just a little bit older then she was couldn't pronounce Katie, it came out as Kiki. My dad thought the nickname was cute so he started calling me Kiki. The name stuck, I am still known as Kiki by my family.

Father's day
by JNS2 ini just wished my dad happy father's day for the first time since 1980, 23 years!
i'm so glad he's still around so i could do that, i might have missed the opportunity because he's had medical problems lately.
it felt strange, but also it felt like a good thing.

JNS2, same here. I just sent my dad the first father's day card ever. I mailed it Wednesday to make sure it would get there yesterday. I couldn't get him on the phone today so I left him a message. My daughter and a cousin have been there visiting this past week, they are on a side trip to New York, but she spoke to him earlier this morning, he was very pleased to receive the cards.

Repressed, Triggered and Recovered Memories
by Big Tex infirst of all, let me say that many, if not most, of my memories of abuse and early childhood were recovered.
some people feel that this diminishes my experience, or in some way denies what happened.
i suffered from major depression and was quite suicidal for 2 years before something happened to trigger my memories.

(((((((((Chris)))))))))) From your descriptions of other details of your childhood memories, I doubt that any of them were "planted" by therapists. The details that aren't personally threatening to your family members have been confirmed. The painful memories have not been denied. Whether it was daytime or nighttime, indoors or outdoors matters not. What matters is that it did happen. It has taken great strength to face these memories and even more strength to share these memories. I hope from the bottom of my heart that bringing them out of repression helps to heal you and bring you utmost peace. There is also comfort in knowing that you possessed the power to stop the cycle of abuse.
(((((((((Nina)))))))) You are the perfect complement to Chris. It has taken pure love, courage, and stregnth to help him through his past and into a time of healing. I admire the person that you are.

REAL REASON JW'S DON'T CELEBRATE HOLIDAYS..
by integ ini think i've finally figured out why jw's don't celebrate holidays.
well, the first obvious reason is.
the g body tells them not to, but the second reason is not because it is pagan, if it were the.

Integ, that makes a lot of sense. Same thing as dividing families and friends with their shunning policies
