Iv been thinking (now I have a headache)

looking at this board and the various kinds of thoughts, beliefs, maturity levels, insecurities, as well as an individuals time span on this board one main dilemma seems to keep popping up, that dilemma is freedom of expression verses the possible alienation of a new poster fresh out of the jw mindset.. the board wars (or being able to express a controversial and contrary opinion) and the use of colorful language (my personal favorite) seem to be jeopardized because of the concern of possibly loosing or offending an important new poster who we all have to agree means something to us all (we were all there once in our lives).

the dilemma seems to ride on personal freedoms of old and established poster who are not easily offended by controversial things and the sensitivity of those who are experiencing the real world for possibly the first time in their lives and have just made a dramatic life change.. i personally am very concerned about a new poster who is confused and looking for some answers, i think most of us are.

i completely understand simon's wishes to try and not offend them.

Seven,Iknow the board was originally a witness board. Ok, I should have said, this jw board is for ex witnesses. Sure many people of varying levels can post here, but it is overwhelmingly for the ex witnesses benefit. As for your example of me being 12 years old, I'll ignore it. You ignored the reasons why I said that, and the entire analogy is incorrect on serveral different levels. Moving on.

Simon is worried about the lurkers who tend to be those on their way in or out. We need to make this an 'oasis' you see?? Where have we heard this before. Seeing as you ignored all my points on this matter, I;ll move on.

In closing, I am not pissed about this at all. THough I agree if I was there would be little you could do to get me out of that state.

As for any solutions to this that I may have, I have suggested many solutions, they ahve all been ignored. So that will be all.

The bottom line is, that for some reason swearing is the focus of the efforts to make this place acceptable to the elusive and legendary lurker/almostoutwitness when threads that would ACTUALLy offend and horrify this said mystical creature, are allowed in full view. It's just a bit silly isn't it?

put ray's book in all the local libary's?

I think the best way to get people to discover the truth about the WT is to let them discover it on their own.

Dave, if you had said those things to me I probably would have laughed and went on my way. However, this is irrelevent as those things that you bring up are not in question here. Under Simon's rules I COULD tell a witness here that he was crazy and everythign would be ok. Any Witness that defends his beliefs here gets FAR worse treament than being called crazy. If Simon was truly concerned about lurker witnesses being offended, don't you think that the issue here would be on our behaviour towards open witnesses, instead of a few cuss words?? What do you think is worse to the witness, a swear word, or seeing witnesses that have the nuts to defend their beliefs get shredded in every thread? Come on man, look at this logically.

First of all, I don't think that any of us have some kind of mandate to save Witnesses from themselves. Witnesses are not the lamb like innocents that you seem to remember. Were we even in the same religion?? If any witness leaves in disgust at the language on this board, it is simply an excuse and a lie to themselves to get away from ideas that they are uncomfortable with. Like I said a few months back, if we are SOOOO concerned with not offending witnesses, then why are there multiple threads on paganism?? tarot readings?? Wicca?? Atheism??? Where does it stop??????? This board was NOT made to cater to witnesses, it was made to provide EX witnesses a place to talk to one another, regardless of what the little blurb at the top of the screen says. This board is hardly a place for a witness to discover information on the Witnesses anyways, this is a Discussion Board. There are websites out there with loads more info to look at. That's why I say the argument that we are moderating outselves for the witness lurker is stupid, because there are openly talked about subjects here that would be far more offensive to the Witness than the word "fuck" This is just a cop out and nothing more.

If someone would walk back to the Witnesses because they heard someone swear here, while at the same time ignoring the swearing in everyday life, then they are brain dead. They belong with the witnesses. This argument itself, while being the most influential one, is the stupidest argument of them all.

is there anything that could make you go back?.

what do you think, is there any change of belief or change of circumstance that could make you return to the jw fold?.

i cant see anything that could make me go back,but i was thinking mabye some of you religious types would go back if they changed some doctrinal things,or if they stopped banning blood.. how about if a family member was dying and hoped to see you in paradise would you go back for a while just to make them feel happy?
