a friend of mine is doing a project for her masters.
she works at the women's center on my campus and is collecting stories and poetry from victims of assult, or family or friends of victims, and then printing them, under the theory that support, personal therepy, understanding, etc.

First of all, you're welcome. Second of all, I don't know what these secondary issues you are bringing up have anything to do with this thread. She brought up a point that in my mind is correct. You on the other hand came on this thread and instead of explaining why you don't agree with her, accused her of being some sort of Watchtower double agent seeking to convert apostates. You remind me of an older poster here called Anewperson, who when confronted with someone who did not agree with him/her absolutely, labeled them a Watchtower troll. Do you disagree with Island Woman's main point that good men and women exist in the Watchtower? If you do not, can you please explain why? Anything else from you on this thread is a bit pointless is it not?

She has been posting here a long time Crawdad.. much longer than you, and I have not
seen one bit of evidence of her attempting to smooth talk anyone back into the
watchtower. Just because some people can have a moderate view of the Witnesses
does not mean they are pro-witnesses. If she is trying to smooth talk people,
then I guess I am too.

I don't see any of the things that you suggest crawdad. I think Island Woman's main point is very reasonable. That while we may disagree with the policies of the Watchtower, most of it's members are raised from childhood witnesses that are unaware how hurtful their behaviour can be. The only thing that can be accomplished by your guns blazing style is throwing up the Witnesses defence mechanism. Is that what you want?

I've said the same things that you said and I believe it. The organization for the most part is made up of well meaning but (in my opinion of course) misled people. I was one of them once, and made some of the same mistakes that they make now. It is a mistake to generalise and call all witnesses "stupid" "heartless" "cruel" because it simply isn't true. One of my former best friends is one of the smartest people I know, a great writer, sharp wit, and great sense of humour. He just happens to believe that the end of the world is coming. However, it is easy to fall into that victim mode when people that you know are essentially good people are behaving so poorly. It's hard to remember that you were just like them when family is excluding you from weddings. It's hard to think to yourself that they are being misled, when former best friends walk by you in the mall while glancing at you and laughing amongst themselves. The point is, yes we know that all Witnesses are not evil, I don't think that even the most hard core apostate really believes taht, but when you're dealing with wounded and hurt people, somewhats what you "think" and what you say are different things. Show some of the patience for apostates that you want us to show for the witnesses. And as a closing point, may I say... Down with Canada. Thank you.
