No. He's your son too, and it's your house as well. Start hiding from her disapproving eyes and get used to doing it your whole life. There's nothing wrong with giving the kid a birthday party and if she doesn't like it tell her to stuff herself. :) Thank you.

Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'
by Esmeralda inthe posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.
here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.
though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

They didn't like the fact that I had Docs (boots) They REALLy didn't like that they were cherry red. They also thought my hair was a bit too long (just touching my ears) So I grew it to my shoulders. Strangely enough they never approached ME with these problems, but whined to my mother. I think I scared them *flutters eyelashes*

Martial arts training
by joelbear ini have been considering taking some self defense training for some time and with recent events this has moved up on my priority scale.. any suggestions on which type of martial arts would be best for a complete beginner.
i have never been in a fight in my life, have always talked my way out of trouble in the past.
but think its time to prepare myself for more.. thanks.

Ironically, the confidence that is acquired by knowing you can defend yourself makes it rarely necessary to do so. Remember, noone wants to fight someone that is willing to fight back.

So three weeks after the fact they've found it in their hearts to help have they? Hey thats great. NOthing they do now can take away from the fact then when those planes hit, and people were streaming by injured, disoriented, and looking for help, the witnesses locked their doors.

Yes Wing CHung is good too Joelbear. I took a combination Jiujitsu/Wing Chung. It was pretty damned effective.

I have taken Jiujitsu in the past and in my opinion it is the most "complete" martial art out there. Don't expect it to be like Jackie Chan movies. It teaches you (especially the street adapted ones) how to survive realistically in a fight. I really should get back to class.
