yesterday i had a real blast from my past turn up un-announced on my doorstep.
she bumped into my daughter (who has rejected me) in sainsbury's, took her to lunch and got my address from her.
she claims she has been searching for me ever since she discovered i was back in the uk.. she is a disfellowshipped sister who was described by one of our elders as a wagon.
It just goes to show that disfellowshipping doesn't necessarily equate with (or lead to) awakening. It's odd, because you would think being shunned is the perfect opportunity to do some homework and find out what the "other side" are saying. I guess some people just prefer not knowing the full story. It's easier that way.

so, unexpectedly, the final talk was announced today and to my surprise and evil glee, they announced gerrit loesch as the speaker!
first off, at the beginning of his talk, he interrupted himself in the middle of his sentence to scold the microphone brother to lower my mike it's right in my face.. anyway, it was the talk on inspired truth, vs. inspired falsehoods.
he went through 6 expressions inspired by the demons.

Yes, to echo Barrold Bonds, we need that audio! There will have been hundreds if not thousands recording the talk at that convention. All we need is one of those recordings, and Gerrit's ridiculous comments will go global - as well they should.

Losch and AM3 are both worthy contenders for the crown, but having listened to hours of GB audio I would have to give it to rubber-faced Stephen Lett of the Governing Body's exclusive comb-over club. He speaks to his audience as though they don't have two braincells to rub together. I don't believe he is being deliberately patronizing - I think he is speaking at his own level. A perfect example of this was when he goofed up on trying to explain "express will" and asked his audience if they thought it had anything to do with espresso coffee.

my relatives will be attending soon, which makes me anxious.
Roberta - I checked out that website, it looks interesting! The onus does seem to be on anti-semitism, but it would be well worth striking up a dialogue nonetheless. For the time being I just want to know if the apostates talk at the convention is having any immediate tangible impact. Armed with that sort of anecdotal evidence as to the repercussions, we would have a much stronger case for alerting the media and anti-hate groups.

I can't believe they allow Loesch to give talks at all.
Indeed.
It's in the Governing Body's interests NEVER to speak extemporaneously in public (i.e. without an agreed manuscript), because their words can so easily come back to haunt them - especially in the age of YouTube. However, they will all continue to do it because they love soaking up the applause and adoration. I think that's the reason why they announced the "new light" at the Annual Meeting rather than let the news be released simultaneously in the Watchtower. Why announce something like that in writing when you can deliver the news in person to resounding acclaim?

Thanks Julia. You make a great suggestion. Unfortunately, the media is very selective with what they pick up and run with - especially when it comes to religious matters. They would rather report on the new name of Kim Kardashian's baby than write about hateful rhetoric from a little-understood religious group. It just doesn't sell newspapers. The only reason they touched the "mentally diseased" story was because there was a whiff of police involvement thanks to Amelia Ashton. Sadly, even though this is clearly hate speech, it's hard to get it the attention it deserves without some form of scandal to give the story the forward momentum it needs. It's precisely this kind of apathy on the part of the media that allows Watchtower to thrive. They know that they can say whatever the hell they like and get away with it.

My relatives will be attending soon, which makes me anxious. Though they don't think of me as a full-blown apostate they clearly have me in the "at risk" category, and it's me they'll doubtless be thinking of as they listen to the venom-filled talk.
I would be interested to know what effect this is having on those who have made clear their feelings against the organization who still have family members inside.
