Oh on the city shuffling, that was one of the MOST annoying things. We used to have a convention at our 'local' big town, but due to the incredible WTBTS cheapness, they decided to begin having it everywhere BUT that close town. We were driving 3-5 hours away to ever-changing locations. For awhile the thing was held at a new location every year. And it's not like it was close for some in the district, they had the entire district driving. I began to wonder if it was due to the fact that when it was held locally, the vast majority of people commuted and were not filling the hotel/resteraunt coffers, and thus weakened the WTBTS bargining power?

There is absolutely no doubt that the conventions are one of the best JW money-raisers. Yes, they get kickbacks from the hotels. Yes they 'use' their power to make cites and hotels give them cheap to free facilities. Notice how the 'special' rates weren't that special. And we've seen several cases of the WTBTS using city taxpayer $$$s to fund the facility. So the WTBTS swooops in, (probably) gets free room-n-board for the big-wigs, gets cheap/free rent, and then gives the rank and file the annual "Oh the convention is SOOOO behind on it's finances" round about Sunday morning. Leaving plenty of time for the JWs to dig deep and drop in the boxes - which are SOOOO conviently placed in EVERY place you walk - often to the point you're tripping over them constantly.
This doesn't take into account the parking $$$s they collect, not too sure they do that after Tacoma or not. Also rumored is that there are ATMs in some of the newer JW convention halls.

Count me in the 'just took the goods and ran' catagory. Oh, I dropped what I got in FS in the box, and made small 'token' drops from time to time, but never dropped large amts (over $10) for any 'purchase'. I was one of the "Oh it's free now" class
how often are these elders supposed to come visit anyway?
it's been a long while since we had any elder come to our house... sure, we had some "brothers and sisters" come by to either use the bathroom while in the service or just say hi, but an elder?

1. Since the hotel wants to fill all available rooms, do not reserve more room than you plan to use.
Ha ha. I only need one room, but let's book 2 just for fun!
2. Do not expect the hotel to save your room unless you make the appropriate deposit in advance of your arrival.Good god, it's sad people actually need to be told this shit.
3. When you check in at the hotel, display patience and respect toward the hotel staff as they endeavor to accomodate you. ["What the fuck is taking you so long? Can't you see we're Jehovah's Witnesses, you piece of worldly birdfood?"]Ha ha!! Gotta remind god's true people not to be rude don't ya know! Isn't this a life-lesson parents were supposed to teach children?
4.If a complimentary breakfast is included, do not abuse this provision, which is made for hotel guests only. ["Quick! Grab enough for the whole congregation to get a free lunch! And take enough bacon for breakfasts for the next year until the next DC!"]Sweeeeeeet!!! Free donuts - quick, fill up my bookbag ...
5. Abide by all the hotel's rules regarding the use of it's premises.No shit Sherlock!

Ah yes, there was NOTHING worse than a WT or BS conductor who would a) sin by going over-time, and b) compound the sin by not shutting the hell up and getting on with it once they did go over-time. My favorites were the ones who were like "Ooops, it's 11:30, we'll have to stop here, the song will be # such and such ..."
i'm sure most of you are all aware of the myth that the wts perpetrates.

Ah the old happiest people in the world ploy. Funny, I knew a HUGE number of JWs (especially 'sisters') who were on anti-depressants. Wonder if the big cheese will hand those out in the new order? JW kids would do the strangest things sometimes - usually going all whacked out finally after years of mental abuse. The worse thing about hanging out with JW kids was that whenever you did anything 'risky' in a group, sure enough, you bet someone there would get an attack of 'consciense' sometime in the next year and rat everybody out! Funny how these people would get a bad consciense after they got 'found out' for that or some other 'sin'.
