  What is going ON?

  first of all: i am new and have been lurking for about 2 weeks.

  glad i got that out of the way.. something that really bothers me is: when they say that the gb all the way down, elders, and ministerial servents are "appointed" by jehovah, and are deserving of "double honor".

  Aintthatcute: Nope, prayer isn't really involved, it go more like this -

  Elder #1: I think Brother ReachingOut would be well qualified to be appointed an MS. He makes all the meetings, has good FS participation, and handles the microphones very well.

  Elder #2: What about those rumors about him sleeping with that sister from OtherTown, USA?

  Edler #3: Tom, my son assures me that this was a slanderous statement made by his jealous freinds.

  Elder #1: Plus his wife is a great host for the CO, they really enjoyed the meal they got last visit.

  Elder #2: Well, ok, let's recommend him to the CO next visit.

  CO shows up

  Elder #3: We've decided to recommend Bro ReachingOut for MS. Remember you had that wonderful meal with him and his wife last time?

  CO: Oh yes, I recall. What have his FS reports been like the past 6 months? Is he making the nat'l average?

  Edler #1: Yes, he has been averaging 14 hours a month for almost a year now.

  CO: OK, let's send the recommendation to the Society.

  And so on. As you can see it's mostly a 'good old boys' network, which is why it's so hard for ones who have no high placed family or freinds to ever get appointed. Those that do usually have to suffer long waits w/ TONS of hard work (massive amts of FS, meeting parts, etc) to ever get appointed MS/Elder.

  Aintthatcute: This really is one of the more common ways that the entire sham of "god's one true org" is exposed to many people. The fact that you are taught that god himself 'appoints' these people to 'shepard' you (which in reality most people fear being targeted by the elders for some 'sheparding' ). Then you see the vast amount of corruption in that arrangement, wherein men take advatage of the position they are given - "Don't question MY actions, I'm an ELDER". And as much as most JWs would love you to believe these are 'isolated' incidents done by a 'few' bad apples, the fact remains that we have seen this same story played out a million times over. Just about any JW in the org for a few years has tasted this.

  The reality - this is a man made religion, using a man made arrangement of control. Man being what he is takes advatage of the situation. End of story.

  Your decision you face is what to do with this revelation?

  I have to agree msil, people going off half-cocked as it were will nto do any good. Hawkaw seems to be doing a VERY good job of gathering info, and has a good contact at the UN. Why not let him proceed. Once htis is done we can decide what to do with the info. Bombarding the WTBTS or UN with tons of emails/calls will not do much good.

  ok, i know that i'm not the only star trek geek out there.

  i know tons of dubs (ex dubs) that love star trek because it's one of the only interesting shows that they are allowed to watch.. anyway, did you watch the first episode tonight?

  i'm pretty sure with the one scene, that the dubs will be reproving some for masterbation tomorrow night.. oh and what's your favorite kingdumb song?

  i'm very surprised that my family has not heard about this "special meeting".

  we are a 3rd generation jw family, dad is the po, mom has been a reg pio for 25 yrs, brother is a bethelite.

  can anyone tell me the date of this supposed "special meeting" and if there is a chicagoland location.. thanks

  I'm sure because they pissed the regonal commitee off in some way - didn't give the rates they wanted, no kickbacks, whatever. It always seemed the best hotels were on the 'banned' list. And no good little JW would want to be seen in an apostate hotel now would they?

  I NEED ADVICE DESPERATELY!!!

  here is my situation: my fiance is now 27 years old.

  he was raised as a jw from the age of 2 through 18. at that time, his whole family left the "truth" except for his older brother who had already married another woman from the faith.

  for the past 9 years, he has been living his life to the fullest, but still loving god, praying often and he is a truly honest and moral person.

  Weird Scriptures

  hi all,would just like to say a quick thanks to all the regular posters on this board, please dont think for one minute that your hard work in unmasking the borg is going without notice.

  lurkers read here and think subconsciously about all info provided and sooner or later it all dawns on them (like myself),,,, so once again thanks.. now, what my question is, do any of you guys know some real good scriptures from the bible that are really weird/gross/unethical/murderous ect ect?.

  the reason being is that there are quit a few that i know that think the bible is like a nice smelling rose and seem to forget that there is also a really strange and dark side to it that really doesnt make any sense.

  i have been "inactive" for the past 12 years.

  with the recent events, my mom decides to send me this letter as she can not carry on a dialog about things that normal families talk about.

  i know she thinks she is looking out for her son's best interests for i used to feel as she does about anyone who leaves da "troot.

  Depends on if you want to 'get into it' with her or not. If you want to take the high road a simple "Thanks for the thoughts Mom, but me and my family are perfectly happy and content right how we are". At least you acknowlegde the thought/concern, however warped it might be.

  On the other hand, there is PLENTY of material on this site and others that you could launch into a full blown attack on the WTBTS if you wanted Maybe start with asking her why "Jehovah" would want you to teach your children about an org who was a part of the 'wild beast'? See threads related to WTBTS being a UN NGO for detail... there's plenty more.

  Good luck either way - I'm waiting for the day when my parents hit me with one of these guilt letters too ...

  perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.

  as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.

  since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

  my cousin is a jehovahs witness.

  his girlfriend is only 16 and she is a jehovahs witness too.

  they have sex and stuff and they said they want to tell there elders so they can confess but he is afraid her parents will charge him with statutory rape.

  You'd better believe that A) they will be DF'ed as quick as you can (except the girl since she's not baptised, but she will be marked/shunned), B) EVERYONE including the parents will know exactly why. There are no secrets in that org despite all their claims. In fact, their 'sins' will likely be exagerated greatly be the time the gossip factory is done with them.

  Tell you cousin to keep his mouth shut tight, and either quit having sex with that young girl or at least please be sure and wear a condom!
