  A Tough Day At the Writing Staff (WT12/15)

  If Im NOT JW, what can I be?

  i have a jw friend who said to me "i'd be interested to know if there are any other religions that teach what jws teach".

  after the post on "food for thought" which gave details of modern day bible students, i thought i'd ask the question:.

  what religions are there that either have similar roots to the jw religion, or that have similar teachings?

  I don't think you'll find one - it would have to be a carbon copy of the JWs, in which case why bother changing? All religions are the same - born of man, run by man, ruled by man. You just have to pick one and be happy or stay out of all of them and be happier.

  The problem is JWs are looking for absolute 'right' 'truth' whatever they want to label it and if you do more than a cursory exam of any religion it's easy to see the BS in it. They can't see the BS in their own religion because they don't want to. It can slap them in the face and they'd say 'Thank you sir may I have another'.

  So if they leave JWs they can either jump into another mind controlling cult if it sooths their brains, or they can get smart and make up their own minds about life. But most people prefer to have life's tough questions/problems sppon feed to them. The price for that spoon feeding is the relinquishing of your soul to a mega-corp.

  Truism about humanity (was Watchtower hysteria)

  catching up on the board, i ran across this statement by joel.

  this is one of the most basic, true, fundamental things that began the eye-opening for me.

  it's also one reason that i think the wtbts tries so hard to keep it's members separated from all external, aka "worldly" groups of people, even seemingly good ones like charities, sports, etc.. once you begin to realize that humans are humans, no matter what group of people they claim to be, what goal they are trying to accomplish, etc, then you begin to see the jw org is no different than the 'world'.

  Catching up on the board, I ran across this statement by Joel. This is one of the most basic, true, fundamental things that began the eye-opening for me. It's also one reason that I think the WTBTS tries so hard to keep it's members separated from all external, aka "worldly" groups of people, even seemingly good ones like charities, sports, etc.

  Once you begin to realize that humans are humans, no matter what group of people they claim to be, what goal they are trying to accomplish, etc, then you begin to see the JW org is no different than the 'world'. Even though they try and claim they are so different.

  The examination of group dynamics is a very interesting thing. The examination of large organizations is interesting too - at some point an organization becomes almost entirely consumed with the task of self-preservation.

  I didn't see your first posts or the attacks you speak of, but this board is basically like any other group of people and so is the Kingdom Hall. There is no magic pill that people take to become different.

  I run into basically the same dynamics wherever I go. I'm learning not to expect things to change simply because I stamp my feet and insist that they do.

  Welcome to the world (which includes Jehovah's Witnesses). You can accept it and manuveur through as best you can and enjoy the journey or you can sit and pout about it or rant and rave about it. Neither one will change it one iota.

  before i get started, please let me emphasize that i am not a witness nor ever will be again.

  many of their policies are crooked and underhanded.

  however, i did some more research on the un thing and found out valid reasons why the wtbts joined.

  No problem - good luck.

  One of the hardest things about this particular issue is that there has been SO MUCH discussion about it from both sides, and it's easy to get confused.

  Just keep the above simple thoughts in mind when speaking with her. Obviously as plain as it is, many JWs will gloss over it just like they do eveything else that is JW-negative.

  Also, they blast other religions for 'supporting' the UN. Then they do the same thing. Yes, their names are on the list alongside just about every other major religion.

  This is what happens when the WTBTS trys to play the 'oh we're so normal' game to the gov'ts of the world (in the pursuit of legal tax freedoms - they worry more about tax laws then improving the plight of JWs in impovershed(sp?) areas). Out of one side of their mouths they are saying 'we are no part of the world' yet their legal beagles are into every governmental pie they can stick themselves into.

  If this is 'Jah's org' why does he need the UN's help?

  Here we go again. <gets out popcorn>

  Do we have to do this again. What can I say besides "agrees to support the charter of the UN"

  None of us are saying that the WTBTS being a DPI associated NGO is a bad thing. It's just hypocritical. They would DF or DA a JW for even working for such an org (see no mowing church yards, no YMCA, etc) yet they can 'support the UN charter'?

  If it's so OK, why did they hurry up and jump out? If they can defend their poistion?

  My other thoughts on that were that the UN might have been considering kicking them out anyway in light of the WTBTS writings about the UN, which they were obviously not aware of.

  It's not like another religion subscribing to the Watchtower/Awake. By subscribing to the WT/Awake you are not 'agreeing to support the charter of the JW'. VERY different.

  When we leave will we be given instant access to the forum upstairs? Will it happen in the 'twinkle of an eye'?

  You mention those that are banned - what about those that disagree with Simon and leave, forming their own Apostate Simon boards? Those would mislead many for sure! Scary thought.

  And how do you know you are a special board user? Is it just a 'feeling' you get? Or are you zapped from you keyboard while posting?

  does anyone have another view or interpretation of the 7 headed 10 horned wild beast and the one that gives it power that beast having one head and 2 horns.

  i believe current wt informs the 7 headed wild beast to be the un and the beast that gives it power the 2 honed wild beast to be the american-anglo power.

  please give any other alternative views to this prophecy.

  No it just means that all new members from now on are of the non-special class which means Simon will not speak directly to them. On of us must now mediate all new users. That is of course unless one of us leaves than a new user can 'take our place'!

  It was prophetic writings of a rather large dump I took yesterday - it had seven heads and ten corns! Then I followed up with a one headed 2 corned poop. John obviously had this in mind when he wrote it.

  The sad thing? My intrepretaion is JUST as valid as nay other religions. Espcially the WTBTS...
