And as a 'by the way', she works harder now at her secular job, plays harder in physical things (sports), then she ever did as a JW, yet strangely the problems are almost gone. Hmmmmmm.

i dont know if anyone else has noticed the alarming number of jws who claim to suffer from chronic fatigue syndrone,i mean hear in cornwall there tend to be several sufferers in every congregation,outside the jws out of the many people i know i dont know anyone,although there are obviosly many outside the jws who suffer this illness,percentage wise it seems that jws have a much,much larger occorance of the illness.. for example my brother in law has not worked and been living on invalidity benefits for more than 10 years since his mid twenties,his brother is also in the same boat, an m.e sufferer.. i wonder if anyone has looked into this a bit more?

Another ditto, I knew SO many (mostly sisters) who suffered from CFS, fybromyalgia, etc. In fact, my wife was one of them. I do not think that in many cases these conditions 'are all in the head' as many do beleive. I think there is something behind it all. However, that said I truely think it's mostly stress-caused. As far as doctors can tell it's caused or contributed towards by chemical imbalances in the brain. Which are caused or contributed towards by lack of stage 4 sleep (among other things). Hence why many of CFS sufferes are on some type of sleep aid (normally an anti-depressant).
All that said, guess when her symptoms started? At 17, when she started reg pioneering. Guess when she got better? Soon after we quit bying the JW BS. Things that make you go "hmmmmmm"
That's why I think it's stress related. She lived life from one guilty moment to the next(i.e. "Oh no we missed a meeting", "We really SHOULD go in FS today"), and from one 'crisis' of offending some poor JW to the next("Wah, you hurt my feelings", "Your skirt was too short"). Once the abnormal 'friendships' were left behind, and the guilt was overcome, the stress they caused disappeard. And the CFS sysmptoms went away with it.

The JW religion or the person, whose fault is it?

i have read stories here and on silentlambs about sexual abuse.. my question is: how much fault can be placed on the religion and how much on the perversions of a particular individual?
i frankly don't know the answer to this question.

Ditto, I think that the JW religion (and many others) are 'enablers' for this type of madness. It provides an environment that encourages and hides monsters of these types. To have the weekly brainwashing sessions telling you not to 'spare the rod', etc. Justifies the beatings that were obviously a normal part of these children's life. In fact I can imagine that this 'brother' was 'looked up to' as an example of someone who had such well behaved children. Although we all know that the children are probably severaly mentally handicapped by their experiance now, and will suffer for years from their parents abuse.

Ah yes, the old "this hurts me more than it hurts you" as the spankings were administered. I never got the point of those semi-legal beatings as a child. It just made me resent my parents (whose response to every infraction was yet another spanking). And I was lucky, not really 'beat' upon, but the spankings were fast a furious. Not that they taught me anything, I got to where I just took the beating and got on with what I wanted to do
It really kills me when I saw all those sub-2 year olds being smacked repeatedly to 'be quiet' during a meeting. How un-natural for a 2 year old to try and sit still for 2 hours! And usually with nothing but a book to look at. Maybe thats why so many JW kids end up with ADD.
All that said I'd like to take that cable upside this dude's head for what he did to this little girl. Hope he get's his due in the big house ... maybe he'll be someone's bitch.

Na, I've seen cases where there is one local nut-job in the congo that is tolerated due to a) family, b) money, or c) the congo sees them as 'mostly harmless' (a-la the earth being 'mostly harmless' in The Hitchhikers Guide )
I lean towards Possibility #4 myself ...

I think the race issue is simply swept under the rug like all other issues to make the JW's look better to the public. I however found that even though the JW line is to preach that race is not looked upon by god, the general rank and file JW member was as prone to racism as any other non-JW person. Namely, most people were either mildly to very racist. I have found that there seem to be just as many non-racist people outside the JW org as there are inside (percentage-wise). I think it has more to do with upbringing than religion ...

Manic depression/bipolar disorder

got diagnosed bipolar earlier this year, broke the news to mother (staunch jw) and she just said it explained a lot.

the most depression-inducing things about a JW upbringing is that they put this huge emphasis on what a terrible place the world is...so when you leave, you still carry this very negative world view, but without the promised magic fairy wand to make it all better.

i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

Ha ha, JW ego feeding time again. OUR work is SO important god will not destroy the earth until 'it' is done. Even in 'saturated' countries where the JWs have been for years they are but a drop in the religious bucket, and their pathetic 'preaching' campaign is just about worthless. Like the average person at the door really has any idea what messge is being presented to him in that 20 second mag sales routine.
Oh and the whole "god opens the hearts of the rightous" or "god directs JWs to the people who need to hear" - such self absorbed BS, if that were true, god sure is doing a piss-poor job or directing, I mean, how many THOUSANDS of hours of door knocking is required for just ONE JW convert? If he were really directing it wouldn't he quit wasting time and just 'get it on'?
