hello sailor,.
my name is vince.
ive been off line for a little bit due to getting laid off and no internet access.
TBP,
Welcome to the board! You have a very interesting story - thanks for sharing it! I've been out 11 years and am still amazed at how much more I've learned from the Bible than I ever did as a JW! I look forward to learning more about you and your wife!
Andi
well, it sorta was like one.
i just had the pleasure of meeting the hilarious six of nine here in new orleans.
seems ol boy had some work to do down yonder and was gracious enough to invite the bigster out for a drink.
Ohhh! N'awlins sounds like a lot of fun! Only been once on a business trip and I didn't get to have any fun...just work.
But SixOfNine is pretty cool! Great sense of humor and awesome twinklin' eyes...always makes him look like he's up to something. Oh wait. He usually is up to something.
When is Mardi Gras? Could we have it then? That would be like THE apostates apostofest! Heehee!

i'm new to this forum, and have been lurking for awhile enjoying your posts.
thought i would share my own exp as so much of what is being said here rings true.. i'm an air force brat, currently in my thirties, that left the jw's when i was 25. it all started in albuquerque, nm when my mom accepted a study with a jw woman there.
she continued to study when we transferred to an air base in panama city, fl.
Hi Jaysong! Welcome!
Andi
just for fun, i thought we could post what celebrities people may have told us we look like.
i know, i know, it's all fluff baby!
i'll be the first one to say it....i'm mainly a fluff poster.
I've been told I look like Annette Benning, which I totally do not get. I had her hairstyle for awhile...maybe that was it.
.
Since my hair's grown out a bit, I've been told that I look a bit like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys.
.
Either way I'm thrilled! They're both beautiful women - inside and out! I think I just look like a Billygoat!
Andi
this post is triggered by freepeace's post on alcoholic relationships.
i'd like to share a story of a friend of mine with the hopes that you can provide some advice or insight.
he knows i'm a part of this board and understands how much support/encouragement/advice i get here.
Thank you everyone for your comments. I'm surprised though that there aren't more marijuana advocates here. I was really expecting you.
Valis - Yes, we're still on! Hope you're still coming?
Essie - I have that book. Had it for two years and never read it. Maybe it would make better use in David's life? Haha!
Jerry - Thanks for your thoughts. Cocaine Anon meetings? I'll definitely bring that up. It'd be cool to hear what other addicts think of pot.
Joel - Dave understands he cannot make Kammy change. She wants to stay away from coke. She knows she can never do that again. She does have her limits. Pot just isn't one of them.
Six - You've brought up some really good points. But I also have some questions. How can the coke and pot not be related? Is not a drug a drug? David is working very hard not to over-react, but calmly stand by his convictions. He doesn't necessarily think pot is a terrible thing for everyone. But he feels for an addict that it is trodding on slippery ground. He does not question Kammy's love for him. He is sure of that more than anything else. He is also sure she is an addict and can rationalize her behavior with almost anything. One of David's biggest concerns is that she admitted she's been smoking pot since the inception of their relationship - he just never knew about it. I think he's more hurt by Kammy's deceit than by her smoking the pot.
BTW - David has asked Kammy to ask her drug counselor. Kammy refuses because she knows the counselor will not think it is acceptable behavior. I like Kammy and think she's a great gal. I just think she is taking advantage of David's patience and kindness and taking their love for granted. I think David probably needs to be aware of that as well.

PS: Anymore comments anyone? I know there are pot advocates somewhere on this board. Come on...put the pipe down and give a girl some help!
...that jw's have a hard time forgiving others because they themselves are rarely forgiven for their own sins.
according to their beliefs jehovah keeps track of every detail of your life...good and bad.
that even if you are humble and repent of your sins, that there is still no true forgiveness until the new system.

Y'all are great! I'm having a terrible day today and needed a little pick-me-up. Thank you so much.

mike's corner: ex-jw community not an activist community?.
Mike,
My previous post was not meant as an attack. If you feel it was, my apologies. Anyone who knows me, knows I would not attack anyone else on this board. (I'm horrified of killing spiders, trust me...I'm not attacking you!)
The point was simply to show you (by your own post) that it seems you are trying to talk up the troops to get organized against the WTS. If that's the case...face it...MANY OF US HAVE OUR OWN AGENDA. And it's not to get organized on this board into a strategy group against the WTS. If some are interested in that, I'm sure they will contact you privately. But doing so on this forum will probably not lend you much support. You're talking to the wrong crowd.

Mike,
I love and respect you and Joel and everyone who has supported and helped other ex-JW's like myself through the very painful process of separartion form our abusive Mother. If commiseration and support are what you are here for, fine! I am not belittling that. Peer support is wonderful.Thank you! I appreciate that.
I am not trying to "make" anyone feel anything. I am trying to promote an agenda, an agenda of unity and organization. Dirty words, I know, but we have to get past that. That is what I am encouraging. You yourself admit you have an agenda to promote. We have to get past that? Says who? What's there to get past?
The issue is bigger than this one example. I am coming to try to come to terms with the entire community's level of commitment. It appears to be lots of bitching, lots of commiserating and peer support (I feel your pain) but no action or unity.Level of committment to what? Your agenda?
If that is the way it is, fine. I look on this as an educational process. It just seems a shame that we can't organize and get behind something. We could be much more effective.Seems a shame? For what? Your agenda? Effective for what? Your agenda?
This is not about me, it is not about money, it is not about this one call to action. It is about the much broader issue of how much the whole community REALLY wants to affect some change. Which, unfortunatley seems to be not at all.Why is this unforunate? Because it doesn't meet the needs of your agenda?
Perhaps it comes across that I'm taking this personally. I really don't think I am. My point is that not everyone has your agenda. Not everyone wants your agenda. To say that it's unfortunate that we don't stand up behind you and get more organized isn't unfortunate to those of us that have a different agenda.
Please understand, I'm not trying to be catty or snotty here. But Joel said it wonderfully...
Well, the burden is on the appealer not those who are appealed to. Either you are drumming to the wrong audience or you are drumming the wrong tuneJust a few of my thoughts...
Andi - who's used up her posts as Billygoat today. Slow Friday...
