The smug arrogance of "having the truth".
by stuckinarut2 inhas anyone noticed that witnesses (from the top down) seem to have a quiet form of smug arrogance toward all non witnesses?.
perhaps it comes from being told how "special and unique" they are but they end up looking down on all normal members of the community because they are not witnesses.. so any form of "love" they show those in the territory is also limited as long as they accept the message...otherwise they are viewed contemptuously as "worldly" and therefore of little value...after all, they will be destroyed right?.

Also, if these IDIOTS really, and smugly believe that the work they are doing in the ministry is saving, and or judging eternally the fellow humans who listen to THEM, or not. Then they might as well call themselves MURDERERS, not saviors. -

This is SOOO TRUE. I noticed this from a very early age, about the people in this religion/cult. Yes, its true that not all in the Borg are this way, but sadly, it is the most powerful, and influential ones that are usually this way.
The sad thing is, that this ARROGANCE, and the better than those "below" them attitude, is not just reserved for "worldly" people, but for members in their own congregations that are deemed "less spiritual" than others.
This false sense of superiority is what drives Elders to disfellowship the "unworthy". They know better, and they know more, and they in turn believe they can read a fellow humans HEART CONDITION.
Well, the real truth is, THEY KNOW NOTHING. They are arrogant in their own ignorance. They are "geniuses" in a CULT that is actually, blinding them. They have a sense of entitlement, but the fools do not even realize they are being blindly misdirected by fellow, arrogant, blinded, HUMAN BEINGS.
It would almost be poetically comical, if there were, unfortunately, not so many people being hurt by the arrogant idiotic humans of this CULT. Such ashame.

Demon possesion, bunch of crap or?
by raven ini've been using the forum to vent and post a lot more frequently lately as a venting purpose & way to obtain peace of mind with the craziness i've been going through recently as i fade away form the org.
anyways today i'm sitting here at work and thinking to myself about demons... ok i know this sounds crazy but has anyone else out there been traumatized by the thought of demons?
i had a dream the other night, just flat out spooky and i woke and couldn't help but feeling it may have been evil ole' satan and his demons at it again.. i don't want to believe that, (trying not to, & just brushing it under the rug so to speak) but have any of you out there been talked up about demons?
-

You notice how most of the "demon stories", or "demonic encounters", mentioned are talking about DREAMS. That's because that is exactly what it is, a DREAM.
Yes, it feels real. Yes it WAS scary. Yes, you dreamt it more than once. Yes, it happened on a night you watched a rated R movie, or when you were wondering if demons were real. BUT yes, they are still JUST A DREAM.
In fact, when someone believes that demons ARE real, it subconsciously pre-disposes them to "see", or "feel" demons, especially in a dream.
I can GUARANTEE that if you do NOT believe in demons, you will NEVER have a demonic experience. I can also GUARANTEE, that if you believe in demons, you most likely WILL have a demonic experience.

Were you beaten as a child?
by purrpurr ini've been confronting my mother with her dubious parenting skills (abuse) of me as a child.
particularly the beatings i would get with the wooden spoon.
not a light smack but hitting me as hard as she could for as long as she could.

The problem, and why this was and, in many cases still is, so prevalent in the JW cult, is because the "religion" is mostly about show.
Its about showing you are "spiritual" by pioneering, being an Elder, a MS, going out in service like a robot, answering at meetings, attending every meeting, and so on, and so forth.
Part of the "show", is making everyone think you are a great parent, and that your children are obedient, little, spiritual clones of Mommy and Daddy. If you have a misbehaving, disobedient child, you could be thought of as being "unspiritual".
This is the worst possible outcome that could happen to someone in this cult, or at least that's what all these brainwashed assholes think. So it literally drives, spiritually striving parents to BEAT THEIR CHILDREN. It is sometimes in the most brutal, and abusive ways imaginable, and it is MOSTLY DONE IN THE "HOUSE OF GOD".
They should change the name of the Kingdom hall to the BEATING HALL. When you have the "pet" scriptures that JW's are so fond of using, and one is about "using the rod", being read from the podium, IT LITERALLY CREATES CHILD ABUSE.
Most of us have seen it. The "walks to the back", grabbing and pulling a 4 yr old childs arms, as they are screaming and crying, and being dragged to their doom in front of EVERYONE, and this is the NORM.
JW parents feel they have a "get out of jail free card", to beat the crap out of the children, and almost be silently praised and rewarded for it. It is almost like, the MORE you beat your child, the more you must be a spiritual parent, ITS SICK.
Yes, I WAS beaten. I was knocked unconscious by my father once, at 8 years old. I was beaten for soiling myself, BEFORE I was toilet trained. That's right, I REMEMBER the beatings from the age of 2 years old, because I couldn't use the toilet yet. I didn't understand why I was even being hit. Fortunately, I was a shy, little, quiet boy at the meetings, so I sat still, and didn't get THAT many beatings at the hall. Most happened at home.
It did eventually culminate AT the Kingdom Hall during my "rebellious" years, when at 15 years old me and my Elder Father got into a FIST FIGHT outside the Hall. It ended with him throwing me into the Kingdom hall front doors, that EVERYONE in the meeting heard it, and me running away, and spending the night like a homeless person in the street. My "crime", he found out I kissed a girl, and the elders told him before the meeting.
I have 2 daughters of my own now. They are the most beautiful, kind hearted, loving, thoughtful, children one could EVER ask for, and guess what I NEVER HIT either of them ONCE, and they both NEVER stepped a foot in the Kingdom Hall EVER.
I BROKE the cycle of abuse, and my life is wonderful for it.

Speeding up, I don't think so. The truth is, these numbers are actually showing a REAL stagnation.
I was a "born in", and was born in 1975. I was there as a child, right after the "hype" of 75, and the numbers from the early 80's to current, are marginal, if that. They were always, since the 80's, around 6 to 7 million in numbers.
For them to be at just the higher end of 7 million, BUT at almost 30 years later, is NOTHING. That can barely be considered growth.
As others have said, branches are closing, publishing is being cut tremendously, halls being sold, hours being reduced, meetings being cut, bethelites laid off, special pioneers being fired, and HEADQUARTERS being reduced. How is this a "growing" religion. REMEMBER this is supposed to be the END, the LAST DAYS before the big A. This is it, THIS is supposed to be the "BIG PUSH", and its all BULLSHIT.
They are SCARED shitless of THEIR numbers, which they inflate to begin with, and it DISPROVES their own rhetoric, so the next move will be them STOPPING to print numbers all together.

What was your first public bible reading? And when?
by Mandrake ini perfectly remember that, rehearsing with mom, trying to read with enough emphasis and in a proper tone.
i was 5 years old, back then in 1996 i think, and the portion was james 5:1-13.... i found today that i still know the first verses by heart!!!
it's actually a cherished memory for me, i came to memorize those because mom had me starting the reading all over again until i got to read it properly... and in time!!!

Outlaw - LOL, I remember my hall had the EXACT same podium, in both the front/main hall, and the back room. It had those 2 circular wheels that you would turn to adjust the height, and the pitch of the board that holds the notes and bible, lol.
Anyway, my first bible reading was back in the early 80,s. I was about 6 to 8 years old, I forget exactly. I do NOT remember what passage it was, which I guess is kind of weird. Like others here have said, it was actually a talk, with an introduction, then reading, and then I think a comment half way thru, and then a conclusion, after reading the rest of the verses.
The introduction and conclusion, was the hard part. To me the reading part was easy, cause you could look down and read. Where it got nervous was the introduction, and conclusion, because you had to give "eye contact" to the audience, and they were hanging on your every word, lol.
I also, remember the applause, since it was the first talk, and the "ooohs and aaahs", since I was a 7 year old, cute, little shit.
I remember the 'G's", and "W's", and "I's", for good, work on this, and improved. It was all based on things like, "eye contact", "inflection", "tone and poise", and crap like that.
For some reason, I was thought of as being a "good speaker", and was asked to give the bible reading at 8 years old, but at the assembly in front of like 4,000 people. I honestly didn't think I was anything special, but I was young, and cute, and read well for my age, and my daddy was an elder. SOOO, I now had to be a nervous, stomach cramped, scared to death, 8 year old speaking in front of thousands.
I will never forget it, it was at the "famous" Stanley theatre in Jersey city, New Jersey. To those that do not know, the Stanley theater is like the, opulent, gaudy, flamboyant, showy display, "Vatican" of the JW cult. Its the same type of place that the JW's would condemn other religions for being to "showy", but did it themselves.

Would you have done what Adam did?
by thinker11 inevery religious group know the story of adam & eve.
for me, i understood what they did was wrong but i never felt they were bad people and considering that they never murdered anyone and seemed to live normal lives after being kicked out, i found it hard to accept that they deserved to die forever and that we would be responsible for suffering for their mistakes.
i personally feel like i might have done the same thing adam did when eve offered him the fruit.

I have often thought about this exact scenario. One thing that I find, wrong with it, and there are many, is that really Adam, and especially Eve, were almost like children. They really had NO life experience. They were NOT even parents at this stage of the game.
If Adam was created as a perfect MAN, then he never had time to grow, and learn from childhood up. If you think about it, just because he was physically a "man", he would have been mentally an "infant" when first created. Logically the same would apply for Eve as well.
They were children, and the Genesis story heavily implies that the eating of the fruit occurred pretty early in the narrative. This again, gives tons of credence to the fact that both Adam and Eve were mere CHILDREN.
Who, and or what, was ALL these children knew? Well it was GOD himself. God was Daddy. God was Mommy. God raised them from creation, and taught them EVERYTHING.
Well, evidently, it seems as though he did a poor job. The FIRST time, a trial was put before them, they failed miserably. Can you imagine the first time your young child makes a serious mistake, you kicked them out of the house, and cursed them.
Adam and Eve, according to the Genesis narrative, were simply children, who were DECEIVED, and had NO knowledge of anything other than their creator. Sounds like a VERY harsh punishment for 2 innocent children, who were deceived by a being that was perhaps BILLIONS of years older than them, and of not only a higher intelligence, but was actually a HIGHER LIFEFORM.
The sicker thing about it, is that WE are paying the price, and WE were NOT even born perfect, and our lives are supposedly still being "deceived" by these billion year old, higher lifeforms, called angels/demons. DAMN, what chance do ANY have against this ?????

The Perfect Ones...
by JW_Rogue inwith the rc coming i was wondering if anyone else noticed how some jws seemed to have everything somehow?
you would see these attractive young couples who clearly were well off.
the brother had privileges though so you know he was at the meetings and fs regularly.

Esse quam videri's comment about that couple "discarding" their special needs child, has just made me sick to my stomach. I am actually, physically upset by hearing this, if it is indeed true, not that I DO NOT believe you Esse videri, its just hard to believe that people would do this.
This is so horrible, I am really disturbed by this. Down syndrome children are HIGHLY functional, and will KNOW if they are being "discarded". This makes me so angry.

Mid Week Meeting. The book of Job....what does this teach me about Jehovah
by tor1500 inis it me or are you having a hard time commenting on what does this week's bible reading teach me about jehovah & what points from this week's bible study reading can i use in the field ministry ?
i'm having a hard time commenting because what does job show about jehovah....well, # 1 he allowed job's suffering, but he didn't let satan take his life.
# 2 what scripture could one use in the field ministry regarding the book of job...talking to a householder, see if you don't behave, god's gonna get you....or allow satan to get you.

The problem with why Job, at least to those who don't blindly follow/read it, is that it doesn't "fit" with a lot of the rest of the bible.
The reason for this, is that the STORY is much more ancient in origin, than the other books of the bible. The story itself states that Job was an "oriental", which is quite different than the other characters of the old testament and their Jewish origins.
The book of Job was quite obviously " added ", by the religious leaders, and most likely to be a fear inducing lesson to keep the sheeple on their toes. What is a better " group control", than making the sheeple think that at ANY time God can just come and wipeout your whole family, and life, all on a whim.
The book of Job is archaic in origin, and story, and message. It existed far before the bible was first written, and was added in, as almost an afterthought, but a good one, at least from the religious leaders perspective, to keep control of the people.
This is why, when WE read it now, being fully awake and away from the mind control Cult, it appears CRAZY, and PSYCHOTIC. It is NOT a story of a loving God. It is the story of whimsical, indifferent Gods, who think NOTHING of using humans as mere playthings. Humans, in the story of Job, are worthless. They can be bartered with, killed, destroyed, and tortured, for NO reason. The "lessons" in Job could have EASILY been shown without the evil toying of human life.
I can recall an Elder from a visiting congregation, giving the talk one Sunday, and he was saying how wonderful the book of Job was. He continued to say how fortunate Job will be in the new system, because he will have 2 sets of children to welcome back in the resurrection. STUPIDITY at its WORST!!!
