  Stupid drunk drivers......

  my house is at the end of a fairly busy street that dead ends in our front yard and then takes up again a few houses down.

  i was trying to set up some email stuff for a client tonight around 10:30 when i heard some police sirens.

  i stood up and looked out my window to see a pair of headlights quickly coming towards my house with the police behind them.

  My grandma

  my grandma was a remarkable woman, with a sense of humour that could crack me up.

  and she had the determination to make everything she started a success.

  she never gave up, and fought for everything she hold dear.

  My Tribute To Dr. Wayne Dyer

  one of the foremost influences that has led to a enlightened and fulfilled life for me was the books of dr. wayne dyer.

  i first read the earlier of his books around 1990. the book that radically changed my outlook on life was "you'll see it when you believe it".

  anyone reading this book who has the slightest willingness to connect with god cannot avoid being changed by this book.. it helped me graduate from the power of the mind and psitive thinking to spiritual enlightenment.. i greatly recommend this book or any other of wayne's books.. wayne dyer reviews at amazon .

  is the special assembly day.

  i attended the sad in brooklyn this weekend and thought you might enjoy some of the highlights.. the morning began with two "telling" illustrations.

  Five of my six kids fell for that bullshit despite their mother and I having college degrees, Hell, even their grandparents had university degrees. I had a graduate degree in Engineering, but couldn't overcome the brainwashing of their JW mother and the assorted elder group of janitors, window washers, Car trim strippers, and lawn maintenance types. The one that listened to me and got her degree got DF'd for not "serving Jehovah", but is earning 2 times what the others earn. They are all out now except one. The girls have gone back to college, but had to work full time while going. It was really tough for them even with substantial financial help from me.

  as many of you know i have very strained relationship with my dub family - being around them is the last thing i want to do.

  Life on other planets?

  as jw's, we were taught that there is no way that there is life anywhere but here on earth.. i personally never bought into that completely.

  there are billions and billions of solar systems out there.

  i do believe that absolutely there is life on other planets.

  I believe that there is much life out there. It is unlikely that we are the only life in such a vast universe. Have we been visited? Perhaps. Is that life very much like us. Probably not.

  i have been smoking off and on for over a year,,,,,,,never smoked before this year in my life.. it all started just for the hell of it.

  then as my hub and i started going out dancing and hitting the town, cig smoke was everywhere.

  i would comehome with it in my hair and all over my clothes.

  597 bce or 607 bce !

  not my usual post - but can any of you reference any material for me that highlights 597 bce a relevant date, rather than 607 bce.. an old friend phoned this morning (who is a jw still) and wanted to know about alternate chronology, aside from what the wts teach.. any info' appreciated !.

  I am certainly no defender of Watchtower chronology and suspect that the 586 bc date for the destruction of Jerusalem is correct. However, one must understand how the system worked. When a nation became dominant in the area as Babylon did somewhere around 605, the smaller nation states quickly made deals with the larger power and were allowed to govern themselves contingent on the paying of "tribute". It also involved an exchange of court personnel (read hostages) meant to guarantee the continued subservience and payment of tribute. That is likely the way that the Jewish hero Daniel came to be in Babylon. However, the Jews were a "stiff necked and stubborn people" and prone to rebellion. I don't have my reference source, having loaned it out, but I seem to recall that the Babylonians dealt with the initial rebellion by replacing the King, taking the more valuable citizens into slavery, and installing a Govenor. After a second rebellion, they "kicked ass and took names" and destroyed the City. The net result is that folks trying to make a case for a "magic date" could just about pick any date between 586 b.c. and 605 b.c. and find some academic support for it.
