I belong to a Unity Church myself, but know several UU's who are really great folks. Like Unity and Religious Science, they have a goodly number of female ministers. The UUers are the most inclusive group that I have ever run into. The range of beliefs within a given congregation is awesome.

Demonized objects
by Patrick inok, if you have belief in the teachings of demonized objects than my photo attachments should confirm your beliefs.
if you do not believe than please explain my photos as so many sciences have tried and failed.
this is not a trick and the transformations are real and this carved rock is of unknown form, very high density, harder than jadeite and has been dated to pre 17th century or older.

There is a very profound line in "A Course In Miracles" that fits here. "That which you defend against, you make real to your own mind".

What would Jesus teach us today?
by petespal2002 ini'm wondering, if jesus was on earth today, what would he be teaching, and would we believe it , or would we set up a website to discuss his thoughts?

I'm with James Thomas on this one. Jesus the man is a historical figure and will never return, but the Christ that he became is already here. I suggest that you check out "A Course In Miracles" if you want the specifics of what he would teach. Start with the Manual for Teachers.

I smoked 2+ packs a day for more than 30 years. Got hooked when cigs were only $.15 per pack in the military. I had a really rough time quiting and had a serious relapse for a couple of years. It is only now that I realize how bad I must have smelled to non-smokers. It helped that no one in my family smoked (all JWs). I found Smoke Watchers International Program helpful the first time I quit, but just went "cold turkey" finally. Count every day without smoking a victory. Review your motivation everyday.
I don't want to stink
When you can't breathe, nothing else matters.(American Lung Association)
I want to feel better about myself.
I don't want to be an addict or thought of as one by others.
Put the money you save by not smoking in a savings account and designate it for something you really want like a vacation to Hawaii or Alaska. At current prices you will have a sizeable "kitty" in no time at all.

Help! I'm getting ripped off
by Sassy inyesterday i received a bill in the mail from national car rental for $2,000.
i didn't get stressed out when i opened my mail last night because i assumed it was an error regarding payment for the rental and i had my ccard bill to show the payment going through.
when i called this morning i learned they are trying to say we returned the car with damage.

I doubt that you are liable unless they showed you the damage before you left. In any case, your regular insurance policy probably covers damage to rental cars. I never take their insurance. It is overpriced, a rip off and duplicates your own insurance coverage.

The Israelites never escaped captivity.
by Makaveli ina major event accepted by christians, jews and muslims around the world is that moses led an exodus from the clutches of pharoah and egypt into the promised land.
many doubters of this story conclude that this was merely a peasants revolt, not one led by some kind of god.
fortunately, we have new evidence that suggests otherwise.

My contention is that there were no "Israelites" until Moses welded them together in the 40 year period wandering in the desert. The Hebrews were an underclass who had come across the border to find work on the construction projects and take advantage of the reliable food supply (thanks to the annual flooding of the Nile river). Famine is a very powerful motivator. Not very different from what is happening today when "braceros" come across the Rio Grande to find work on U.S. construction project. You can't work on construction here in Texas if you can't speak spanish. There are documents discovered in Egypt where governors of the outlying provinces are complaining to Pharoh about the "hibiru" (translates "raider") coming into the land. I doubt that Pharoh had an OSHA or Federal Employment Commission or minimum wage laws to protect them. The portrayal by C.B. Demille in Exodus appears to be mostly a fabrication.

When is it time to put down a pet?
by Mindchild ini'm rather sad today.
i've been putting off taking my old dog (14 years old) to the vet because i knew the news wasn't going to be good.
it was even worse than i thought though.

What a beautiful dog! I can imagine how close you must be to her and how much you love her. I'll bet she knows too. Personally, I would not allow her to suffer. Give her a really good day and let her go. You must allow yourself to grieve the loss. Getting a new pet right away could abort the grieveing process which you must go through. Putting a pet down is a really hard thing to do, but it is the loving thing to do.

seventy schmeventy
by peacefulpete inmuch time has been expended trying to make sense of the 70 years of desolation claimed in parts of the bible with no success.
i have in the past presented what i feel was evidence that the so called desolation was in fact 49 years in duration and was know as such by one of the authors of daniel.
this is the conclusion drawn by most bible commentaries and reference works.

Interesting post. You are probably correct. Both 7 and 70 are popular numbers in ancient writings. The only way to get 70 literal years is to start counting from 607 which is probably the first year that Israel starting paying tribute to Babylon. I believe that most scholars agree that the land was not laid waste until about 585 after Israel "reneged" on the deal. A stubborn and stiff necked lot, those Jews, eh?
