Hooberus-You speak of bodies as if there were two, a spiritual body and a flesh body. There is only one body. That body was created in the image and likeness of God and is immortal. It is perfect in every way. The so called "flesh body" is merely our "concept of body". We built it ourselves. Because of our false beliefs, it will malfunction from time to time and will eventually age and die. Jesus was resurrected in his immortal body. However, he had perfect control over it. He could make it appear solid as a "flesh body" or walk through closed dooors as the occassion demanded. He must have been able to alter his appearence as neither the women at the tomb or the apostles walking on the road to Emaeus recognized him right away.

Jesus Christ is still a human
by hooberus inthe watchtower teaches that jesus is no longer human since he died, and that he was "resurrected" as a spirit creature.
thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:" psalm 8:4-6 .

Right or Well?
by startingover ini don't know who wrote this but i found it interesting.
i heard a funny story about a cowboy who ambled into the local blacksmith shop and picked up a horseshoe, not realizing it had just come from the forge.
he immediately dropped the hot shoe, shoved his seared hand into his pocket and tried to act nonchalant.

Good Post! You are so correct! I have known so many people who have destroyed their own health because they are unwilling to "let go" of some imagined hurt or wrong. As my old mother-in-law used to say, "it's not so much what you eat that determines your health, but what's eating you". There is so much documented evidence now that our negative emotions play havoc with our immune systems.

dear john
by peacefulpete infound this interesting piece...... .
today, the majority of biblical scholars, both catholic and protestant, assert that st. john of zebedee did not write the gospel that bears his name.
they ascribe authorship to the "anonymous" beloved disciple.

Pete-It seems a minor miracle to me that the gospel of John got included in the canon of the new testament to begin with considering its somewhat gnostic flavor. Thank God that it was. I agree that it is the most spiritual of them all. Is there any account of the gospel prior to the editing by the more "traditional" church leaders?

I am reminded of the lines from the Master's Notebook which is contained in Richard Bach's book Illusions.
"The ties that bind families together are not of blood, but of joy and respect in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof."
You may wish to consider just who your real family is. You have, in effect, sent your blood brother to hell(separation). The problem with that is that he takes a piece of you with him. Your blood brother is just as much a victim as you were. The difference is only in the timing. You got your eyes open first. Getting angry and cutting him off defeats the desirable goal of helping him see the ugly truth about the WTBTS.

Newsweek-Is Faith Good Medicine?
by Wolfy ini have often heard that a persons belief in god has helped them recover from a serious illness.
i have also heard jw's say god was punishing them for some wrong they have done.i think it's possible that the mind can play a part in the healing process.
belief in god may have an effect but i feel some people go way to far.. here's a link---http://www.msnbc.com/news/987695.asp?vts=110220032005.

There is a whole new realm of medical practice called Psyco-neuro-Immunology based on the demonstated fact that our belief system and emotional state influences our immune systems. Our bodies are capable of producing drugs far more powerful than anything the pharmaceutical industry can turn out. How do you think placebos work? Placeboes (sugar pills) work about 30% of the time and is the standard against which new proposed drugs are measured. There are documented cases of patients being healed with injections of distilled water when they were told by the physician that the water was a powerful new experimental drug found to be very successful in the treatment of whatever ails them. The ancient greeks referred to the mind as both healer and slayer. Nothing has changed.

Mindchild is quite right about the influence of our emotional and mental states on the immune system. It is extremely important that she keep a positive mental state regardless of the type of treatment she elects or even if she elects no treatment at all. There are documented cases of patients being healed by watching comedy shows or taking sugar pills (placebos). Some Physicians who specialize in this area suggest that our "bodies" are reflections of thoughts we hold about ourselves. Your being there for her will help her to feel good about herself. Remind yourself and her that she was created in the image and likeness of God and nothing has changed that.

My Body
by StinkyPantz inthere was recently a thread asking whether you'd rather be buried or cremated.
in a way, i think both are selfish.
i am already an organ donor, so i figure, why not donate the rest of my body to medical science?
-
Navigator
I understand that the standard procedure is to cremate any left over parts when a body is donated to science. Since I want to be cremated anyway, I have suggested in my final instructions that they might want to consider donating my body (after they remove any useable parts) to a medical school. It saves a bundle on funeral costs. As for the bone chips, there is a small plot just large enough for a columbarium at my parents feet. Or speading the bonechips at sea would suit me just as well. Who cares what happens to a body?

Jonah and the big myth
by peacefulpete inmany here have heard that many/most famous bible tales are in fact merely local versions of often repeated pagan myths with a twist.
the jonah story is a classic.
the story is familiar to all, the joppa setting, the stormy sea and boat, the swallowing by a whale/fish, reappearance after 3 days.

O.K., so Jonah is a myth and was most likely borrowed from the Persians. The more important question is;"Why is it included in the canon of the Old Testament?" Could it be to counteract the racist views in Ezra & Nehemiah? Remember, the first wave returnees from Babylon who took wives from the indigenous population were required to divorce them when the second wave arrived because they were of impure blood. Serious business in that day and age for the women and children "put on the street". Could it be that the message that we are all are God's children, even the cursed Ninevites, needed to be learned?
