Don't get too comfortable. They do come home you know. Often they bring their mates and your grandchildren with them. If you keep a guest-room, they will come.

Empty Nest Survival tips?
by serendipity inmy daughter is 17 and it's occurred to me the chick will be leaving the nest in a few short years.
since i'm single, she's the sole focus of my attention at home, and it's hard to deal with her growing up.
it's so hard, that i get teary-eyed just thinking about it, and i'm not generally a weepy woman.. for those of you who have lived through this, how did you cope?

It would be an erroneous assumption to assume that all the standards of Roman law would apply in a backwater province like Judea. That province had a reputation of being rebellious and hard to govern. Pilate was a politician first and foremost. He was not above throwing an innocent man's life away in order to keep the peace.

Watchtower Prediction Success Rate
by zgborn inwe are all aware of the incorrect predictions of the watchtower society concerning future events which failed to occur.
i personally have a clear memory of telling householders that because six thousand years of human history was due to conclude in the fall of 1975, we could reasonably expect dramatic changes to take place in the government of the earth in that year or shortly thereafter.
my question to all of you is, can anyone point me to a case in watchtower literature where they predicted something that actually happened?

Incorrect predictions by the WTBTS? Oh No! Surely you must be mistaken! It is only that some of the brothers "went a bit too far", but the GB never said the end would come in 1975. At least, that is what they keep telling me. They don't seem to realize that I was there and lived through all that crap. I am sure that by now they have edited out all references to 1975 in their collected literature. It is too bad that some of those apostate brothers still have the original issues. Must be a vicious plot to discredit the GB. Of course 1975 is merely the latest screw-up. There were several before that. Some sold their houses or took out big mortgages so they could pioneer full time in the expectation that they would never have to pay them off.

"Why Won't God Heal Amputees?"
by scout575 in"according to believers, god is answering millions of their prayers every day.
prayer seems to be especially powerful in the medical arena - god eliminates cancers, kills viruses, reverses the efffects of poisons, heals internal organs, repairs injuries etc.".
the above quote is taken from an ex-christian website.

Why would anyone assume that God has anything to do with human bodies? These bodies we occupy are symbols of our dream of separation from God and designed to enhance that dream. We have created them by our own thoughts. If God had made them they would be perfect, immortal, and indestructible. They certainly are not. We therefore need to consider that perhaps God didn't make them. The dream of separation is in our minds, not God's. When Jesus healed the lame man at the pool, he simply asked him, "What is holding you back?" Could it be our own belief that we are bodies instead of immortal souls.

I watched it go down on local TV this morning. I live in Ft. Worth. The Landmark Tower was also known as the Texas Building. It had a large revolving clock on the roof that you could see from miles away, but it hadn't worked in quite a few years. It had an aluminum skin and wasn't too bad looking. There was a plan to convert it to condos and build a parking garage next door, but they couldn't get the financing worked out. The Bank One Tower, damaged in a tornado several years ago, has been completely rehabilitated. I understand the one bedroom apartments are going for $150,000.

The Bible - God's Word or Man's?
by SickofLies ini guess my basic goal here is to express to others and hopefully get more support in my efforts to tear down the two worst and most inaccurate books the society has published.
those being: life: how did it get here?
and the bible - god's word or man's?

Careful! You are in over your head in deep water if you want to argue biblical interpretation with Leolia.

144,000 are you one of them?
by JCinme inhey i've been studying jehovah's witness beliefs but i had a question, how does anyone know who the 144,000 are?
if you could respond with what you know that would be great.

I am not one of the 144,000 but my wife thinks she is. Do you think that sleeping with one of the "annointed" will give you a free pass at Armhageddon? She was born in 1936.

Parlour Tricks of the Mind
by LittleToe ini offer you a few recent musings, to consider.
i'm not trying to make statements of facts or argue for a set of beliefs, or anything of the sort.
i guess i'd just really like to discuss the subject of the mind without getting entrenched positions on the various subjects surrounding it.

There is a pretty good record of an Indian Yogi(Swami Rama), being tested at a famous clinic in Minnesota (Mayo?) to demonstrate his ability to control his pulse rate. He showed that he could make his heart beat at any rate the tester specified. In casual conversation, the tester asked him if he could stop his heart completly. Swami Rama promptly complied, much to the horror of the tester. There was a mad scramble for "crash carts" for several minutes but, just before they were to put the "paddles" on, Swami Rama restarted his heart. The interesting thing was that he was able to describe in some detail what was going on in the operating suite on the next floor above and in the next room.

Roger on the "Hot Water"!
The "sub-conscious" also controls how we react to situations. Our response to events in our lives is already "programmed" by our response to similar events in our past. Sometimes our reaction is not to the present moment but only a replay of some past event. Or as one text puts it "I am never angry for the reason I think". Anyone who has traveled on an unpaved road after a rain knows whereof I speak. It is sometimes hard to get out of the ruts.
