Husband puts off wifes funeral for Elders meeting

while reading minimuses post under "friends" about a sister who kept up auxillary pioneering even though her 5 year old daughter died, it brought to mind a similar story that happened just 2 months ago in a large cong.

an elder serving in that cong.

for many years now, lost his wife to heart complications.

I can't imagine a father being so insensitive as to not walking his daughter down the aisle if he were invited to do so. He deserved to be talked about. I am a non JW and walked all of my JW daughters down the aisle. I did decline to attend one daughter's reception in protest against her df'd sister being "uninvited" to the wedding.

Yes, I have noticed an unusual incidence of fibromyalgia among my wife's witness friends. Is it more prevalent among witness women? Have any studies been done?

i just wanted to see if anyone out there could help with my situation.

my husband and i are inactive witnesses very very recently.

we separated as we are both very unhappy with our lives.. my husband was raised a jw and has gotten flack his whole life by elders.

Your original question was "Do you know a good counselor?". I know an excellent counselor in the DFW area who specializes in dealing with the "walking wounded" both in and out of the WTBTS. He knows what the issues are and how the JWs operate.

Wonderful news about Iraq..NO NEED FOR WAR!

well it looks like we will be sending our troops home, as we dont have to worry about iraq retaining, creating, or using weapons of mass destruction anymore (wmd).

the iraqi dictator has sent a note to the chief u. n. weapons inspector informing him that he (has just now enacted legislation making wmd's illegal.

this wonderful news was announced by a gleeful hans blix just today at a televised meeting at the u.n.

Saddam is playing for time and waiting for good hearted, but ignorant, people like Happyman to bring enough pressure to bear so that the coalition falls apart. Yerusalem is right. Military men hate war. It is they who sacrifice by going in harms way and being separated from their families. Where is Happyman's concern for the tnes of thousands of people that Saddam has murdered over the past 10 years and the thousands he will murder in the future? If France had stood up to Hitler at the appropriate time, WWII could have been averted. Mass peace rallies were being held in this country right up to Pearl Harbor. The military men in the Phillipines and the South Pacific were left to face the Japanese with out of date equipment, no supplies, and no support thanks to the "peace" movement in this country. It is the military men who pay for the politician's mistakes. We need to stand up to Saddam now. The sooner the better.

Climbing the Walls

i've been planning this for 4 months, well sort of.

the planning took 5 minutes the procrastination has taken up the rest of the time.

after 26 years of indulging, i've finally tried to quit smoking.

Great going Sargon! Every day is a major victory. Don't give up your hardwon gains. I know what you are going through as I smoked for 33 years. I dreamed about smoking for about one year after I quit about 17 years ago. My wife helped by telling me how much better I smelled after I quit. In case you haven't noticed, smokers have become a new class of "lepers" in most workplaces. I vowed to give the money I saved to my church. When I made it, ciggarets were less than $1 per pack in the military BX. Lately, that pledge has made me one of the "big givers" in my church. You will soon notice how much better you feel in the morning and how much better food tastes. Watch out there! I put on about 15 lbs. when I quit. Drink lots of water and stay active. Regular trips to the gym or taking long walks helped me. Good luck and God Bless!

Being born again

i was just in a discussion with a jw who was talking about being born again.

now i know that jw's beleive that only the annointed are born again but when are they born again?

also is there any watchtower references to that?

The phrase "ye must be born again" was a northern aramaic idiom which meant a change in thinking and outlook so dramatic that it was the equivalent of being "born again". The Sanhedrin member that Jesus was talking to didn't understand it because a different version of aramaic was spoken in Jerusalem. Sort of like going to Madrid in Spain and trying to get by on TEXMEX. Apparently the WTBS didn't understand it either. Some of the fundie christian community don't seem to understand it any better.

Most of the main line protestant denominations have had women elders for years. They add a great deal to the spiritual dimension of their congregations.

I am reminded of the film record of Neville Chamberlain from 1939 holding up a piece of paper and declaring "peace for our time". Failure to deal with the dictator Hitler at the appropriate time is what led to WWII and the death of hundreds of millions of people. Failure to deal with Saddam will lead to a similar result. The UN has not been much more effective than the League of Nations was just prior to WWII. AGuest and others seem to be missing the point. Saddam is trying to control the world oil supplies. He is willing to use "weapons of mass destruction" to accomplish that end. No one is asking him to disarm. We are asking that he give up those weapons of "mass destruction" that he intends to use to intimidate his neighboring oil producing countries. Controlling the oil would effectively give him control of the world's economies. Do you really want a madman to have that kind of power? The sooner we get him out, the better off we will all be. Prisca seems to think that the Iraqi people are supporting Saddam. Everyone forgets that he murdered his opposition years ago and that his power rests on fear. I suspect that many Iraquis will welcome the coalition forces and be as glad to get rid of Saddam as George Bush is. Why do you think Saddam's army surrendered in droves during the last conflict?

I doubt that the military people already on site and heading that way will receive this news gladly. A large percentage are reservists. The operative word is "stay in place". One of the toughest things about military service is separation from family. The reservists can effectively kiss their jobs goodbye. Guess who would bear the cost of keeping that large force in place. France seems to be willing to spend our last dollar to maintain their relationship with Iraq. You can bet that Bush will not buy into this.
