We did already at Thanksgiving.... Turkey, mashed potatoes, etc. Plus we had friends and family over. We never "celebrated" christmas though but growing up pops always made us turkey dinner and I continue the tradition.

I'm sure many JW's get together and celebrate this time of year
by JH ini remember when i became a jw.
on december 25th a ms brother invited many brothers to his house for dinner.
i was very confused.... the way he talked, it was because we didn't celebrate christmas and that we were all alone on that day, and that's why he made it look like a christmas dinner .... .

Deception in the Elder/MS Appointment Arrangement
by deaconbluez inthe society claims that all appointments of elders and ministerial servants in the congregation are made by holy spirit.
now, the inexperienced or new witness is under the impression that jehovah, by means of his holy spirit, puts it into the hearts and minds of the body of elders that so-and-so is ready to serve, and the appointment happens accordingly.. but they actually employ a sort of deception with this process, because when they say, "holy spirit directs all appointments of men in the congregation", they actually mean that each brother considered for appointment is examined to see if he has the qualities listed by paul in his letter to timothy about the qualities of congregation shepherds.
so they reason that since that writing of paul's was inspired by holy spirit, then by extension, the appointments which happen as a result of using that list of qualities to examine an individual, the appointment is made by holy spirit.. this is like saying that people are hand-picked by simon for american idol because the regional producers of the show use a list of things to look for in contestants and that list just happened to be written by simon.

The JW elder arrangement is a farce, a system designed to conscript middle management so that the cult leaders in Brooklyn can maintain control and fear. Seriously though oftentimes it all depends upon who you know. If you are a regular pioneer or have the CO "simonized" then you'll be promoted for sure.

JW view of Worship is the problem
by Amazing inin some private discussions with ex-jws over the years, i have boiled down some of the disagreements to a different view of what worship is or is not.
this view often unwittingly affects ex-jws, and underpins their arguments, even though they do not realize it.. to a jw, worship of jehovah is done by going out door-to-door, attending meetings, commenting, singing, and prayer.
these are acts only done to and for jehovah.. to a protestant, going door-to-door is nice, vene being at church is nice, but not worship.

Jim,
Good observation. For JW's being spiritual is based on quantity of works, how much you do for Jah. JWs may deny it but isnt it true that the ones that pioneer, dont miss any meetings, comment frequently, arrive early, etc. etc are the ones that are considered exemplary? I imagine when I step aside as an elder, hopefully soon, that I can cope with not doing so much. Silly JW's trying to earn salvation which the bible clearly states is a free gift.

Along with what Stilla and WAC said also he will be given more complex MS assignments such as the accounts or literature coordinator, definitely be a bookstudy assistant, and taken on numerous shepherding calls. If this person is a regular pioneer or his wife is and she is very charismatic and well liked then he's s shoe in for sure. Oh and also he can taste what the PO and CO had for lunch that day in form of the shit he's been eating out of their anus!

Military Service Objection: What was the motive of the Watchtower Society?
by james_woods ini have spent some time puzzling over this every so often.
of course, i have to admit i was affected more, as i was draft age in the vietnam era.
i barely escaped going to prison over this issue, and had numerous friends who were not so lucky.. on a fundamental viewpoint - what exactly is the "biblical" standpoint for absolute abstention from military service?

(Acts 10:1-8) 10
Now in Caes·a·re´a there was a certain man named Cornelius, an army officer of the Italian band, as it was called, 2 a devout man and one fearing God together with all his household, and he made many gifts of mercy to the people and made supplication to God continually. 3 Just about the ninth hour of the day he saw plainly in a vision an angel of God come in to him and say to him: "Cornelius!" 4 The man gazed at him and, becoming frightened, said: "What is it, Lord?" He said to him: "Your prayers and gifts of mercy have ascended as a remembrance before God. 5 So now send men to Jop´pa and summon a certain Simon who is surnamed Peter. 6 This man is being entertained by a certain Simon, a tanner, who has a house by the sea." 7 As soon as the angel that spoke to him had left, he called two of his house servants and a devout soldier from among those who were in constant attendance upon him, 8 and he related everything to them and dispatched them to Jop´pa.
Of course if you continue reading we learn that Cornelius was one of the first gentiles to accept the faith. Nowhere do you see Peter telling him that he needed to get a discharge from the army... in fact it was god himself who called him while he was a soldier. So why does the WTS make people leave the military before allowing them to get baptized or consider you disassociated if you join the military?

PC hardware is one of the easiest things for a basic A+ Technician to diagnose and fix plus cost of parts but software and OS problems is where they can milk you. If you have a business and a LAN then the cost just doubled for an enginner to come to just look at it for you. Thats just how the business is, yes that last guy was trying to cheat that customer but like other posters said the other places were just charging their flat rates or incompetent. Kind of like a doctor, I pay a $15 co-payment to go see him for 5 minutes and get a prescription. God knows how much my companies health unsurance is billed for 5 minutes. Or a plumber.....I once paid $75 for a guy to come and remove my toilet off the wax ring to take out a toy my daughter flushed and it took him all of 30 min. After watching him I could have easily done it myself but I figured I have the money so why bother. Either pay or learn to do the work yourself...

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 12-17-06 WT Study (Sacred Gatherings)
by blondie in: the special assembly day, the two-day circuit assembly, and the three- or four-day district convention.
q9) how can we show our respect for sacred gatherings by our dress and behavior?.
- how can children show that they respect the sacred nature of our meetings?.
