Who determines the "144,000 heaven goers"
by SeekingHim inhey all!!
i am married into a jw family, and i was told that there were only 144,000 people going to heaven (jw people at that) and i know one of the supposed people.
who determines this?

Jehovah granted me admission based upon an arithmetic immateriality variance that was calculated to mitigate the effect of the Watchtower's errors in math or its inability to grasp "new light" (i.e., basic math). He also granted me the right to make all future determinations of eligibility for entrance into the annointed class. Future female additions to the "annointed class" must meet all of my criteria for admission; and, assuming said criteria are met, there's a screen test too. Guys? Keep on dreaming . . . there's only room for women left!

F Bin Laden, and F Bush for not capturing this terrorist because he was too busy avenging the attempt on his father's life that was allegedly orchestrated by Saddam. 1,400 and counting of our young men and women's lives, and billions and billions of dollars are being spent because King Bush needed revenge. What a waste; I bet the war would end much sooner if Bush's kids were deployed in Iraq.

Refusing magazines/books from JW relatives
by JustTickledPink inrecently my mother dropped in on us and in front of other people, very nicely handed me some trinkets aka dust collectors for my house and some wts magazines.
the way she handed everything to me at once i just held out my hands and took it all.. i threw the magazines away immediately, i consider them trash and don't even want them around... but then decided exactly what i was going to do.
i am going to buy a yard sale cross or virgin mary statue and give it to my mom.. i specifically told her i don't want any publications and she slipped them in anyways.... so, on that note, she hates any religious icons, i am going to give her something that she doesn't want.

You should just be honest with your parents. Tell them you'll never read the materials as you have zero belief in the Watchtower. It will likely be rough in the short term, but in the long term, your parents will likely respect you for being honest.

filthy kingdom halls
by what_Truth? ini don't know if this is wt policy, but our hall had a policy of assigning bookstudy groups to clean the hall.
the few times my family actually showed up (along with anyone else) that the hall was always in a disgusting state, especially the bathroom.
the woman's washroom had the most revolting smell you could ever imagine.

The stalls at our hall were always coated with boogers. Apparently, the most appropriate contribution from the brothers never made it to the contribution box.

Why Is A "Non-violent" People So Violent To Its Young?
by steve2 inone of the anomalies of the jehovah's witness worldview is that it "carries" its non-violence hand-in-hand with some fairly violent practices towards its young ones.
so, the jehovah's witness father or mother who would reject any involvement in the military or "turn the other cheek" if physically attacked in field service, has no qualms about yanking their noisy child out of the kingdom hall and giving that child a good thrashing (i.e., beating on the buttocks, legs, arms and back) and creating an even greater noise.
i am not a parent, but over the years of observing parents - and others - hitting children both inside and outside the kingdom hall, it slowly occurred to me just what a barbaric practice this was.

I have observed many a kid being beaten at the hall I attended for being unable to sit still through hours of mindless Watchtower efforts at controlling the minds in the hall. At our hall, they had a room designated for beating kids, not child care. The despicable abuse and exploitation of children, facilitated and condoned by the Watchtower, is indicative of the subhuman and patently evil management of this cult. Parents raising their children in this cult will ultimately pay the price for their decision. Caveat emptor!

I'm thinking of going back
by Smoky inover the weekend my cousin came to visit from mi, and her husband (elder) started to do his shepperding thing with me (have not attended meetings for over 1 year), and made a compeling argument about how the holy spirit is given by god only if you attend meeting and go to field service...etc, etc.
and the whole "faith and works" issue.
it was a different angle that i have never heard before, about me being a "instrument or tool" of god...blah, blah, blah... anyhow, it got me thinking about going back...especially when things are not going to well for me right now... (he said its because i left jehovah).. how can i convince myself that this is not true?

Smoky, The fact that you and many other individuals who recently saw the real "truth" about the cult that calls itself the "truth" are insecure in your decisions to leave the cult permanently is compelling evidence of the skill of the Watchtower and its minions in brainwashing well-intentioned people, as well as in instilling paranoias and auto-responses designed to diminish or destroy cognitive capabilities. No one here can give you the backbone you need. You need to reach within to get the strength to break free permanently. Good luck to you!
