Hey!!!
How come Mel Gibson's "The Passion" was not even nominated for any of the big awards???
How can a movie be number 1 at the box office for weeks and not even get nominated????

Additional thoughts on the JW belief system:
Jw's believe in a two class system of salvation - The "anointed class" and the "other sheep class". They believe that most of the NT, or "Christian Greek Scriptures" as they call it, only applies to the "anointed class" and does not apply to the "other sheep class" to which most JW's today belong. (Unless you were born in 1935 or before you are considered one of the "other sheep class".)
This two class salvation belief is why a JW can read the book of Romans and NOT see what is really being taught. All the while they are reading it, they are thinking to themselves, "This passage does not apply to ME, it only applies to the annointed ones." God's New Covenet does not include the "other sheep class" to which they belong.
In effect, they have put themselves back under the Jewish System of Laws. Most of the Watchtower study articles deal with OT subjects. The NT is used only when convienent to bring out some point that the WT wants to make.
You asked if their Bible was different from the NIV - the simple answer is: "Yes it is very different".
The NWT is a very JW biased work. The writers started with a 'set of doctines' and wrote the NWT to fit within that pattern. Many words were added and many words were changed to make the passage 'fit just right'. Whole books have been written on the subject. I'm sure that you can find many web pages that will also explain how the NWT has been 'corrupted' from the original Hebrew and Greek texts.
JW's measure "spirituality" by the number of hours that one puts in going door to door and the FAITHFUL attendance at the 5 weekly meetings. The more 'service hours' one has per month and the more meetings attended equates to being 'strong in the truth' or being 'very spiritual'. Someone who misses lots of meeting and has low service hours is said to be 'weak in the truth' or 'spirituality weak'. One's personal relationship with the Creator is never even once considered as a mark of spirituality.

Welcome to JWD, newholland
Official WT doctrine states that Jesus is the mediator for only the 144,000. All others (the other sheep - earthly class) must go through these 'annointed ones' to recieve salvation. In practice, the Watchtower society has placed itself in this mediatorship role. Anyone who comes to 'Jehovah' must come to him THROUGH "Jehovah's Organization".
The average JW will be unaware of this official teaching. They are really surprised to learn that Jesus is not THEIR mediator. However, the average JW does believe that there is no salvation outside of "Jehovah's (earthly) Organization". That is why leaving the Watchtower Society is said to be equal to "leaving Jehovah". The JW's believe that all people outside of the 'ark' (The Watchtower Society) will be destroyed at armagadden by Jehovah and that only JW's will escape being killed.

Do you lowercase screen names when they start a sentence?
by seattleniceguy incall me neurotic, but i struggle with this question, i do.
it grips me late at night when my normally agile typing fingers hesitate, unsure, before the name of a poster that is lowercase, but which i want to use at the beginning of a sentence.
for example, take my name, seattleniceguy.

In my case, I like to be addressed as "NewLight2" or "NL2" with emphasis on the "2". The reason being that JWD also has a poster with almost the same screen-name as mine. Otherwise it would not matter to me.

Tough day -- my mom died today
by cruzanheart inpoor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.

I need your guys thoughts & opinions
by kls inhave you ever met someone and for some unknown reason this person just rubs you the wrong way ,i don't know if it's a vibe they give off or what but something that makes you dislike about that person.
my son who is 21 started to date this girl and there is something about her i so much dislike and i can't help the way i feel.
i have 4 grown kids all have dated and brought there dates home and i was receptive to them all but i cannot to this girl.

I can identify with that feeling. For me, it is something about that person's basic personality that clashes with mine. I have even been known to admit that: 'I have no REAL reason that I do not like the person, but yet I can't 'stand' that person around me.' Even the way they move makes me cringe!
Since we are all different, I would try to figure out if it is just a personality clash or if you have some real reason to feel this way about her.

First of YOU need to KNOW forward and backwards what the JW's REALLY believe. This is not the same as what your average JW will tell you that they believe. For starters, stick around JWD and read the archives here. There is lots of info to be gained. Then you might want to check out these web pages:

So sorry to hear of your father's failing health. My mother is 86 and I enjoy doing the 'little' things for her that she is now unable to do.
My duties:
Pick up the mail from the mailbox that is about 2 blks from her townhome.
Carry various objects upstsirs to the bedrooms and downstairs to the basement.
Pick up various medications from the store for her.
Clean the house every so often for her, because she is unable to do it herself.
I really enjoy my time spent with her now as I realize that she will not be here too many more years.

Oh! I'm sooo sorry that this is happening to your family so close to the time that the family lost the beloved bird! I'm trying hard not to cry as I type this. I've lost way too many cats, too. It still hurts, even years later! I'm so glad that Zach got to make his own choice. That will help in his healing. I think that the sooner the cat is replaced with a new little 'ball of fur' the better. It will give Zach a new focus. Oh, and about the older dog, maybe a new puppy BEFORE that time comes would help with that loss too.
